Uh, I read the long Halloween and it didn’t seem anything like any of the Batman movies.

Ya, TDK as well.  Ok maybe its been a long time but isn't LH basically Batman going after the mob which creates a power vacuum, allowing masked villains to take their place.

Harvey's arc and interactions with Batman and Gordon in TDK are ripped straight from TLH. My memory is fuzzy too, however.

But if I remember right there's like a dozen villians in TLH and Harvey was just one bit of it. I think a TLH movie would certainly feel pretty fresh for a Batman movie.

Right, like I said:

Quote
But neither movie really adapts much straight from the comics, I think it could be pretty fresh.

However, Goyer can be very plain about which works he references, and it so happens The Long Halloween was the primary comics source for The Dark Knight's screenplay.

Quote
"By the time that The Dark Knight comes out, it will become apparent that LONG HALLOWEEN is the preeminent influence on both movies."
-David Goyer

The ironic thing is I think the most striking and memorable part of The Long Halloween is the art & general noir style which is the one thing that doesn't translate into using it for a film unless they make it a straight out noir film. If they do that with the new one that would definitely be cool, but I feel like Hollywood isn't ready to fund a big budget noir film anymore. Blade Runner 2049 is probably the closest thing to that.

Yeah, it's basically Batman noir wrapped around a solid mystery core and well-written character arcs. I could easily see a new live action movie taking some or all of those elements and running with them depending on the director.

To be fair to the Hollywood system I always seem to be shitting on lately, because superhero comics have been popular for so long the studios are getting pretty weird with them again. An R-rated Joker origin movie? Are you kidding me? ...and it's good?!

I hope they have a scene where Bruce goes to the movies with his parents but someone shoots his parents in an alley

They went to see The Joker and got shot by an angry incel.

Let's not pretend Christopher Nolan's Batman in Name Only had remotely anything pulled from the comics other than guy in suit beats people up.

I won't pretend that, because it's blatantly not true... BB and TDKR in particular pulling strongly from Year One and Knightfall, among with many, many other elements from the comics never before seen in live action (Scarecrow, Falcone crime lords, fucking white eyes while wearing the cowl, a comics accurate Two-Face, the League of Shadows, the relationship with Gordon... god, just too much to list.)

Nolan's Batman is just as legitimate as The Brave and the Bold.

Maybe it was gonna be shit, but you don't go watch a Jodorosky's movie to have the cookie-cutter verbatim adaptation.
The best adaptations are the ones injecting as much authorial vision into them as possible, in my opinion.

Fun little comedy horror flick. Liked how some of the characters were exactly as you thought they would be right from the start, while others leave you guessing what their true feelings are. Satisfying ending.

Yeah, ending was nice. Movie could’ve been a Sam Raimi film. Thought the tone is sorta similar to Wingard’s You’re Next x Raimi.

I watched "The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot"

The title is accurate. It was a well made film about an old man living a life of regrets and thinking about the thing he did that changed his life.
Great acting by Sam Elliot. The film is kinda sad though, this man did not have an easy life. :'(

It Chapter 2 was enjoyable romp. The kid actors in part 1 and here are really really good and have great dynamic. The adults are all pretty good too.

I would've liked if they spent a little more time on the lore stuff of Pennywise, since one of the reasons I really like the novel is it's got cool monster lore (which also plays into Dark Tower lore). The ending wasn't that bad (though would've liked sticking closer to the book), but too much time in the movie is spent on video game goofy CG monsters which I'm never a fan of in any film. I thought the pacing was fine and was entertained throughout and Skarsgard's Pennywise is still great. Solid 3/4 stars.

Also makes me sad that an HBO quality Dark Tower ain't gonna happen because it could've had cool stuff like the weird monstery bits of this. The King stories I like this best is the weird eldritch stuff because it's interesting.

IT Chapter One & Two

I was a big fan of the first one, and I enjoyed Chapter Two as well. One of my least favorite parts about the Chapter One was how after the fight, months passed, and then Bev gets taken and immediately they're all back together without any happening in between. I'm glad that they actually touched on that in the sequel by forcing everyone to relive a moment from that time in order to perform the Ritual of Chüd. I thought the casting was great in Chapter Two, I like that it stayed focused on the characters instead of thinking they they needed to ramp it up into something more action-packed. It did feel like at times it was just covering the same ground as the first part, and a couple of reused gags didn't help (although I'll admit I did still like the Scary/Not Scary/Very Scary" doors :lol ), but overall solid movie.

Chapter One: ****
Chapter Two: ***1/2

Pure

A direct-to-Hulu feminist horror movie about a group of horny teens that are forced by their fathers to attend one of those creepy father/daughter purity balls at a remote forest retreat. One of the more rebellious girls has fun every year attempting to perform a ritual to summon Lilith, but thanks to the new girl, this time it actually works, and summons Lilith from the depths of Hell to help them smash the patriarchy. Honestly, it's not a bad idea for a movie, but nothing happens in this damn movie. I just watched 5 hours of some people trying to kill this fucking clown, so I can appreciate a movie that takes it time, but give me something to work with here. It's just 80 minutes of dudes being shitty af to women (which, okay, checks out) before getting their comeuppance.

Despite the estrogen injection, this movie reminds me a lot of another movie called Evilspeak. In Evilspeak, Clint Howard uses an Apple IIe to summon Satan to help him get revenge on the shitty people at his military academy. Evilspeak wasn't a very good movie either, but it did have a pretty sweet scene at the end where Clint Howard starts flying around and kills the headmaster with a flaming sword. Basically what I'm trying to say is that if Pure ended with someone getting decapitated by a flaming sword, I would have liked it more, but it didn't. Boo.

Watched The Last Starfighter, still holds up pretty well other than the high score thing where everyone is excited about a videogame but then again it's a boring ass trailer park so...
