Anyone watch Knives Out yet? I almost went Sunday but fell into an NFL vortex that pinned me into a couch.
Saw it. Loved it.

It's crazy to think all of Villeneuve's Dune (part 1) has been done filming for months and we're basically just waiting for a teaser. I still keep thinking of the movie as vaporware. (The movie is still a year off so anything could happen, but the fact remains they shot all that footage...)

They're also moving forward with getting a script ready for the Part 2.

Doesn't look nearly as flashy/stylish as Skyfall or Spectre, let me check the DP... ah damn, no Deakins or Hoytema...

Linus Sandgren, who they got instead, did La La Land and First Man, which were pretty good looks-wise, but yeah, not nearly the same level.

Anyways this is just a critique on the cinematography, since that's really all I can comment on from this teaser-teaser. :P Looking forward to the trailer, and I hope the movie's a good send-off.
I was thinking how every other action movie now is going in this nuBond direction.
Fast & Furious (although that's mutating into Marvel absurdities) Mission Impossible, John Wick, XxX, even that Girl with the Dragon tattoo new one seemed to go into this style of action movie.
I don't mind it, because it's a good format, but it definitely makes Bond feels less like an event.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

It's pleasant. Considering how relatable the story between the main protagonist and their dad is, you would think I would be a little more touched, but it didn't really impact me in that sense. Enjoyed the one minute of silence scene which you know what I'm talking about if you've seen the film. I would like to see the article that the movie is inspired by.

... and before I posted this, I found the article.

Knives Out

The es jay dubya/snowflake/alt-right chit chat had me half hard given how I love those corners of the internet that go on and on about the internet kultcha warzzzz. They added those bits just for me  :ego

Movie was good too. James Bond's accent seemed to be something that I couldn't figure out. Like a southerner who split time between England and the south his entire childhood and then this is what you get  :lol. Nice twists and turns that leave you going "well you dun goofed now", but no no. Somehow there is another wrinkle in the case. Never slow at any point other than perhaps the introduction portion.

It's funny how

the family really wants to figure out who killed the old man after they have been exed out of the will

Knives Out was fun. Great ensemble cast, fun scenes, decent mystery. I'd put it as my 2nd favorite of Johnson's films behind Brick which stood out as amazing when I watched it back in the day. I like Brother's Bloom and Looper's solid and Star Wars is Star Wars but Brick & Knives Out are fun.

Knives Out also reminded me a lot of Ready or Not. The two hit a lot of the same themes with similar comedic style. Would make a good double feature.

Also watched Neon Demon and felt pretty straight forward non-weird movie for Refn, maybe more normal than Drive, maybe about the same. First half was good build up but being a horror movie from Refn I was expecting some fucked up crazy shit in the back half and like...nothing happens and then it ends. Story is simple, short and incredibly tame and even though I didn't care for Starry Eyes that much, it did this a lot better. Just a boring bad movie. Still need to see Only God Forgives. Boy, that will be fun.

It's amazing how a little focus on continuity can make all the difference. I'm hyped, and so happy Waltz and Seydoux are 1. back and 2. very much integral to the plot.

I didn't like Waltz' character in the previous one and Bond's relationship with Moneypenny (however rushed) was more convincing than whatever was going on with Lea in the last one, but this doesn't look bad.
TBH it looks exactly like the last two Bond movies to me.

I don't disagree but think how much of a wet fart this one would be if they went "That super important bad guy orchestrating every other Craig/Bond movie? He's never getting brought up. Oh and we're fridging Lea Seydoux's character in the opening scene ala Bourne Supremacy."

I'm also super pumped Felix is back too, rewatching Casino and Quantum I really missed his character in Skyfall and especially Spectre.

Frozen 2 - Was good until it was tropey and the songs are all pretty meh. Still was enjoyable and there were some nice sequences like the crossing the ocean stuff. Everyone I went with seemed to love it though, so probably works for everyone other than cranky cinema people.

Apparently it's also the case with Bird Box and El Camino.

It's as if putting an enormous video link on the front page of your streaming service will get lots of people to click it even for something they're not super interested in.

What does it consider the end though? Computer logic would see the end as the literal last second of the file. Where for more human brains the end would be the moment the credits come on.

Probably the point where Netflix removes it from your “Continue Watching” list and removes the “Resume” button within the film splash page which is not post credits

Knives Out was a lot of fun. Doesn't try to be anything new or throw out some kind of new spin on a classic formula, just does a decent mystery story well. Good cast all around, but Daniel Craig is the GOAT.

Watched Solo: A Star Wars Story

A fun heist movie and probably has the most 'Lucasfilm' vibe of most of the recent Star Wars flicks.
Lando kills it in this film, Woody does his job well and Han is serviceable. Paul Bettany probably acts better than anyone should in a movie like this.
Emilia Clarke plays well... Emilia Clarke.

Double, triple, quadruple betrayal is a bit eh

Probably one of the least offensive or remarkable Star Wars films out there. Something to watch on a rainy Friday night.

6.5 Parsecs / Emilia Clarke

I haven't even started Irishman yet. Need to find a time when I'm ready to spend 4 hours watching a movie. Would rather watch Marriage Story next anyhow.

Dolemite is My Name - Pretty good and fun. Kinda traditional feel good biopic of this time but it's a lot of fun, especially the back half about the movie. Wesley Snipes is hilarious and Murphy does a great job. I used to watch Dolemite in the 90s with some friends, so was a fun watch.

Netflix marks something as watched if you make it even close to the credits.

I’m sure that’s what they used.

edit:  oh it’s Nielsen, so Yeah who knows how accurate
Yeah although (and this is especially true for Amazon Prime video) i sometimes get the "Keep Watching" thing on stuff i already finished, because i closed as soon as the credits rolled, but before Netfliz does the "exit from full screen" thing.

I'm a sucker for mid/low budget sci-fi thriller flicks so I went into it open minded and liked it quite a bit despite the obvious flaws.

Well, Reynolds clearly found his niche, with Deadpool's humor.
The movie itself looks like Ready Player One, but somehow even more annoying.

It's got the girl from Killing Eve though, so not a complete waste of time.  :doge

The fact that you watched a long movie is enough to be a good guy in my book  :).
I can't count the times I've told friends or co-workers to go see a movie and the first question is: "How long is it?" Followed by: "My girlfriend doesn't want to watch movies longer than 60 - 90 minutes" or some other excuse.
It was also the most common complaint some people had about Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.  "I loved it but I wish it was shorter".

As a fan of immersive cinema (one of my favorites is the Directors Cut of Das Boot which is like 5 - 6 hours) this is a worrying trend.

Your friends are absolutely right, my man.
Movies nowadays are so fucking bloated with shit, they might as well be TV shows.

If Bergman could shit out a masterpiece in less than 90 minutes, you better have a goddamn good reason to keep me sitting for 2 and a half hours of Robot Man vs Alien Boy.

That said i watched and enjoy plenty of long (3+ hours) films, and there's nothing inherently wrong with length, but so much "extended edition" mentality is just to add more garbage bloat and endless cgi fistfights.
Hateful Eight, to stay on Tarantino, was way too long, for absolutely no reason.
