90% of the films on the Netflix streaming service are still crap or really old.  The TV selection is much better but I don't really have the time to follow many shows.

I disagree with instant streaming selection. It's pretty solid, and there's nothing wrong with old movies. You haven't seen every movie ever, so there's always something new to see, and a lot of my favorite movies are on instant stream and are rated two to two and a half stars on average. Stuff like Mulholland Drive.

Netflix instant watch needs a categorize feature, a list feature, AND a random feature. They just bulk all your movies together at once and when you've got over 200 titles in your queue that's a hassle.

Random feature would be so boss.

yesterday I was sick and basically watched movies all day.

McKenna's Gold - awesome performance by Omar Sharif, but a rather bland movie beyond that.  Weird ass funky western score by Quincy Jones.

The Children- Good horror film about "evil" children.  By the writer of London to Brighton which I just watched the day before last.  kids kill parents, parents kill kids.  It's basically what every single persons suspects of their friends who get married and have kids.

The Bird With Chrystal Plumage- I'm not really a huge gaillo fan, but this one was pretty good.  I'm mildly confused about one thing though, so I have to search it out online.  I'll probably watch the rest of Dario Argento's gaillo films in the "Animal Trilogy" though.

The Muppets Take Manhattan - not as good as I remember, but still cute and largely harmless.  Nowhere near as good as the first movie.  I need to see The Great Muppet Caper now.

tried to watch 3 Days of the Condor, but netflix kept crapping out on me.

I don't mind old flicks but most of the ones on Netflix stream are crap.  Most of the stuff are not more than 3 stars and when you take into account the fact that Netflix users have lower standards, then they're not even 2 stars by normal standards. The foreign selection is particularly bad compared to the disc service.  I went through all the good European stuff in less than a month.

I agree with Himuro, there's a ton of awesome stuff on the streaming service. I think you really could bitch about the selection over a year ago, but it's much improved. If you can't find anything worth watching on there, then either you have no life and have seen every movie ever or you have an extremely limited film palette.

That's not even including all the great television stuff on there.

No, I just add them on the PC before watching on the Xbox.  There's some good stuff through streaming but it's still really sparse compared to the disc library.  For example, almost all the good Swedish films on the stream service are WWII dramas even though Sweden has got many interesting films in other genres.

Trailer for the Spielberg/JJ Abrams movie is attached to Iron Man 2:
Quote
The trailer starts with a black screen, that says Steven Spielberg is the producer. Then a small written narrative begins that reads something like this. “In 1970 Area 51 was closed down and everything was shipped to an undisclosed location in Ohio”. Then you see a train carrying lots of cargo loads. Cut to a car driving down the road that jumps up on the tracks and heads straight toward the train. Cut to black screen and then the words “From Director J.J. Abrams”. Then back to the train and car colliding into each other, the the train derails, the camera slowly zooms in on one of the tipped over cargo cars of the derailed train, then something is punching on the walls inside the train cart trying to escape. Cut to black screen and then the title ”Super 8“.

There's a lot to offer on instant watch, and that's without mentioning the amazing list of foreign films they've got.

There's a shit ton of foreign films on instant watch. That gives a whole slew of various genres at your finger tips, on the international level, with varying degrees of quality.

Like today I'm watching a bunch of awesome French movies like Le Femme Nikita and 400 Blows, both of which are classics. Old, but great movies, and you can't take that away from instant watch; the selection is simply amazing.

Pan's Labyrinth

I have to say I'm not impressed, and honestly, the movie was a flat out disappointment. I gave it 2/5 on netflix. I went in expecting the movie to be an Alice in Wonderland/Wizard of Oz type story of wonder and adventure. Instead it's a canned war film slash fantasy story; the plot has no clue what it wants to be and very rarely is either plot strand interesting. Oh, so you have to do a fetch quest to open the gate to the labyrinth? What is this - a point and click adventure game? The characters are two-dimensional: raging military guy who's dead set on having a son, boring spy lady, boring kid character who's annoying...honestly, the only character I liked was the mother. The film tries too damn hard to evoke emotion and be shocking for the sake of it, attempting to tell an imaginary tale of an imaginary world, when just about every thing in the film is sterile and canned.

From a technical standpoint, it's pretty solid, but the editing drives me insane. If I had to count how many times I had to sit through a transitional shot where they close-in on the trunk of a tree and cut to another scene, I'd lose my mind.

An ultimately shallow and unfulfilling film that is the equivalent of Alice in Wonderland if Alice was stuck in the room with the talking doorknob the whole story rather than exploring Wonderland. It has no clue what it wants to be: WWII film, kid's fantasy, dark fantasy, or a civil war. These mixed  plot strands are not complimentary and help create a disconnect between the viewer and the story. To be blunt, the story is balls.

SMH

Up until Disney, kid's fantasy was dark fantasy. Kids existed in these brutal times too, escaping to a fantasy world then is fitting rather than dischordant as you found it.
