Elizabeth, excellent movie still.  Amazing how many people are in that which would go on to be famous, and how one of the leads just fell off the face of the earth

such a shame the director was never ever to replicate his success here.

The music was definitely awesome, the atmosphere was awesome. I thought the premise was really good and executed well, McCloud was a good character. Sean Connery was fucking awesome as usual, the villain was great as well. Although the love interest sucks(same with another awesome movie, Robocop).

I just loved it, I loved the idea too. Highlander 2 just literally shits all over the first in every way,

District 13: Ultimatum

decent action. silly story. terrible dubbing. wish there was an option to turn that off.

worst part is that Dany Verissimo wasn't back. thankfully they had a new chick at the end who's a pretty hot asian chick with tattoos.

The term handwavium (suggesting handwaving) is another term for this hypothetical material, as are buzzwordium, phlebotinum, and flangium.

Another largely synonymous term is wishalloy,[16] although the sense is often subtly different in that a wishalloy usually does not exist at all, whereas unobtainium may merely be unavailable.

this is the most distinguished mentally-challenged stuff I've read in weeks. :maf

come on, it's so fucking easy to troll avatar. you gotta find something better than a stupid word cameron didn't even come up with.
Well you can make fun of it's context.

With the way the robber-baron businessman stereotype shows it off, and the fact that it's constantly in contact with the NEURAL NETWORK, and yet any element that is that high on the periodic table has to be extremely radioactive and therefore of course KILLS the whole garden of eden paradise thing making it a blob of carbon and filth.

They should have called it placebotainium.

Highlander 2

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

What the fuck is this shit!? WHAT.THE.FUCK. Who decided it was a great idea to basically ruin EVERYTHING that is good about the first? Did they even watch Highlander? Jesus fucking christ!
I know I'm already too late, but: Watch the director's cut, never watch the theatrical release.

If you'd like to know what's different, to start with there is no mention anywhere of the planet Zeist. There are still problems, but it's a much better movie.

Inspired by this thread, I went and re-watched the original (didn't remember it at all) and have now started watching "Highlander 2 Renegade Version," which I thought was supposed to be the director's cut...

...but it's showing Sean Connery on another planet talking to rebels during the opera scene.  Guess I need to find another version?

EDIT: Maybe not?  They're talking about
spoiler (click to show/hide)
"banishing the two rebels into the future."
[close]
I guess this is it...they just ignore the giant spaceship in the background?  Wow, cheesy.

EDIT 2: This movie is fucking AWFUL.   :lol  The bad guys with their overdone laughs are just :rofl
spoiler (click to show/hide)
There's no backstory on what McCloud did to make the atmosphere get messed up, and changing the other planet to "the past" just doesn't make sense.  The bad guys are more futuristic than the future.  And why the hell was McCloud old in the first place?

there's like an even more renegade version of Highlander 2 out there, its supposed to be the most complete cut out there.  They redid many of the originally very lousy special effects with CGI and better mixed in the years-apart reshoot material.

I haven't seen any other version but this one, but I'm guessing its gonna be the best bet for anybody who wants to see the most coherent version of Highlander 2.  And yes, even in its reputedly improved state, its still an amazingly terrible film.  For any bad movie connoisseur, Highlander 2 remains an ever essential film, perhaps even a landmark one.  Its not the Citizen Kane of shit, but its at least the Casablanca.

Sherlock Holmes 2 news
http://scifiwire.com/2010/05/what-we-know-and-you-need.php
Quote
Sure, Iron Man is awesome, but what's up with Sherlock Holmes, that other franchise starring Robert Downey Jr.? Turns out Warner Brothers is gearing up a sequel right away.

We spoke with producer Joel Silver while he was promoting Splice in a roundtable interview, and during the interview we uncovered a few details about the eagerly anticipated sequel.

The start of shooting is not that far away.

First off, Silver thinks it will be ready to shoot before the end of this year. "We'll start shooting in the fall and coming out maybe the following year," Silver said on May 22 in Hollywood.

The clues to the sequel are already buried within the first film.

It ends with Holmes identifying his archnemesis, Moriarty. That will be where the second film picks up, says Silver, making the first film a blueprint for who Moriarty will be.

"We want it to be really bold and strong, and Moriarty has got to be a really incredible character," Silver said. "We spent a movie setting up a character, and now we can make the next movie where we pay that character off."

Rachel McAdams will return, but ...

If he's planning to shoot in the fall, Silver will have to cast his Moriarty soon. Downey is back as Holmes, and Jude Law returns as Dr. Watson. Silver even said that McAdams would reappear but that she wouldn't be the leading lady this time.

"She'll be present," was all Silver would say.

Who do you think should play Moriarty? And for that matter, which Arthur Conan Doyle character could pick up the baton from McAdams?

As I said in another thread, since Holmes 1 takes place in 1891 which is the start of the Great Haitus they should do four movies, with the fourth taking place in 1894 and being based on the Final Problem.

Have Moriarty in 2, new villain in 3 but have Moriarty in the background like he was in the first, and then bring Moriarty back in the fourth and send him and Holmes off Reichenbach Falls.

I doubt the franchise lasts 4 films

First one made 500 million despite coming out right after Avatard.

And if they do manage to get Brad Pitt as Moriarty (he's rumored to have done the voice in the first one, and Guy Richie won't comment on that), it'll put more butts in the seats.

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Is-Brad-Pitt-In-Sherlock-Holmes-After-All-16324.html
Quote
Matt Patches: I have to ask, who plays the voice of Moriarty in this movie?
Guy Ritchie:  I'm not going to tell you.
Matt Patches: I have to say, it sounded a little like Brad Pitt.
Guy Ritchie: Can't say.

Hey guys remember when manabyte thought this piece of shit was going to make more money than avatar? :rofl
to be fair, the advance marketing for Avatar sucked a big huge wad of suck, there was a common perception that the film itself was going to be a massively expensive eco-wank that would have limited appeal to furries and people who dig on clumsy environmental messages.  Even the first week's gross for Avatar was good-not-great and it wasn't until it started building steam as a long playing film that it defied the conventional wisdom as a huge waste of Fox's money.  Sherlock Holmes had a prime release date, a mega-hot star, and a kickin trailer, Avatar had the mopey dude from Terminator: Shit and no built in audience.

Speaking of which, just because Fox bankrolled a 300 million $ movie and it payed off big time, doesn't mean that they still weren't foolish to do so.  Avatar making major, major bank was a gamble that paid off.  Roundabout November I guarantee there was buckets of sweat from the Fox studios about how to deal with this thing.

Ok, The Avengers is going to be awesome.

The story is apparently about the Skrulls (YES!) brainwashing Hulk for their own use, and the Kree will be Earths allies. There won't be a full on Skrull invasion though since they're saving that for Avengers 2.

Watched The Mist again this afternoon.  It's still one of the better B movies out there and imo it's one of the few Stephen King films worth seeing.

And man, that ending.  Love it. Not very often do you see a movie from one of the big studios that goes that dark.  It's surprising that they didn't interfere and make them change it.
