Watched Beowulf. Denmark doesn't have mountains, film ruined.

Also, I don't understand why it was animated. It would have looked better and probably cost less if it wasn't. I do enjoy those types of stories were the enemy is never defeated only reincarnated.

Also watched Sherlock Holmes again, was more enjoyable this time as I didn't really give a shit about the story, knowing I didn't like it. Jude Law is seriously pimp through out that entire film. What I wouldn't give to swagger like that.  :drool

Trying to decide between finding a spot that will rent Fiddler on the Roof or if I should just download it. I've never seen the movie or the play but last night I got on a wikipedia train and ended up on pogroms somehow and now I really want to see it. I always knew it was, well, "jewy" but didn't know it dealt with the russian pogroms, sounds more interesting than I thought before.

I bought a couple of el cheapo Spaghetti Western collections on DVD and have been working my way through them. If You See Sartana...Pray For Your Death, some spaghetti kung-fu in The Fighting Fists of Shanghi Joe, the ever-popular Django the Bastard, stuff like that. It's great. Most of these movies are so bad (as in badly made, badly acted, badly edited) but still sooo good (as in over the top, crazy, violent).

They're probably going to kill him off in the end.  :-\

I wish they would release the Young Indiana Jones series on DVD complete with eyepatch old man Indy.
Yeah, me too. I wonder why it's never happened. Oh, wait. They did. And they're more expensive than god for a show well over a decade old.

Shutter Island, the "twist" is immediately apparent, but it's still quite enjoyable.

The Road

A thoroughly depressing movie, but I don't think that hurts the film like some reviewers did. Viggo and Kodi own this movie, they get so far into character for the entire duration of the movie that you really feel like your riding along with them, so it's surprising that neither got even a nod from the Academy. But that's the Academy for you. The other complaint leveled at the movie is that the story is just about a guy and his son wandering around, but, again, I wasn't bothered by this, because the situations they find themselves in are so gripping and tense. Aside from the acting, the best thing about this movie is the visuals. The world looks dead and dying, there's trash and thick dust everywhere, everything looks old and unkempt. These are probably some of the best post-apocalyptic visuals ever. If you're going to watch this, just be aware that it features none of the excitement and adventure of Road Warrior and Book of Eli, this is more of a post-apocalyptic drama than anything else.

Well, I certainly didn't find The Road boring, but there's none of the fun-excitement like in Book of Eli/Road Warrior, is what I meant.

The Road was really good except for the ending.
yeah, the ending was a bit lame to me.  Seemed like it was a "there is still good left in the world and everything will probably be ok!" ending.  I haven't finished the book yet so i'm not sure if it ends that way too.

I thought it was way more exciting than Book of Eli.  Book of Eli just looked like New Mexico or Arizona too.

yeah, it's not full of the crazy balls out action.  but it was still way more exciting to me.  It never felt like there was much at stake in the book of eli.  you were supposed to care about that damn book but I didn't give a shit if he lost it.  so the action over the book never made me feel anything.  i almost wanted to say "just give them the damn book already jeez"  and he could have anyways!  it didn't fucking matter in the end!  LAME AS FUCKING BALLS!

I guess instead of "excitement", I should have put "action". I wasn't too keen on Book of Eli either, it was okay but nothing great. The Road is better in pretty much every way.

A-Team - total camp, but some funny/ridiculous scenes.
Get Him To The Greek - hilarious, basically the Hangover of 2010.

A-Team

I don't know whether the movie is good or not, but it's just so ridiculous from start to finish. I would say that as an action movie, it's not really that good. The CG is really obvious and it's got the sort of action that most modern-day movies have [i.e. the camera moves around really fast and you there's stuff flying everywhere]. It has some neat scenes, but nothing that made me go "Wow". On the other hand, it works far better as a comedy. The dialog and the interaction between characters [especially the four members of the A-Team themselves] is really good and often hilarious. It makes some stabs at being dramatic, but not very often and that's for the best. Sharlto Copley [Murdok] steals nearly every single scene he's in, I'd say that movie is worth watching just for him and I'd actually like to watch it again just for his scenes.

Would you have liked that part better if she was better looking?  That's what I was asking myself.
possibly.

shit, but there was so much wrong with it.  the relationship wasn't developed at all and so it wasn't convincing. she wasn't hot.  And it's not what I thought I was getting when I started watching.  It all seemed so forced.  But if she was hot I could probably handle it better.

I recently re-watched both of them, too. I read the script as a single story, so I still think of them as a single film. I think it was a profit-driven decision to split them, rather than keep them together. 3 hours or more is murder on theaters, and if they can double the number of DVD sales, why not?

Kill Bill 1 is one of those movies i rewatch every few years as opposed to once a year with Kill Bill 2.  And I used to love Kill Bill 1 but now I can barely stand it.

Toy Story 3.

The ending :( More sad than the beginning of Up, but in a different way. Really the most emotional bit in any Pixar movie. God damn. Perfect end to a trilogy too.

Not funny, and pretty fucking boring until the end. Maybe I just don't get these R-rated comedies that seem to think a bunch of language and slapstick violence are the pillars of good comedy. Maybe for 12 year olds and dudebros

Karate Kid remake

Surprisingly good. Almost better than the original. Jaden has a lot of charisma, and the story and writing are generally better that what was in the original. My main grievance is that the original Karate Kid was the story of a boy who is turned into a man by a friend through martial arts and responsibility; he was older and this makes the story feel more realistic. It's just hard to take a love story between two pre-pubescent kids seriously.

The Thomas Crown Affair -

Been meaning to watch this one for a while, and found a nice 720p BR rip. I think I might buy it now, 'cause it was awesome. A sexy, stylish, smart heist movie by John McTiernan with Pierce Brosnan being the suavest man alive, and Rene Russo being cougarishly hot. Highly recommended.

Book of Eli
-

Stylish-looking garbage. Pointless plot. Meaningless 'twist'. At least the gun-fu was not slo-mo for a change.

I've never watched all of the TC before, but the parts I've seen of it are bad stuff. The narration also drowns out the soundtrack in a lot of scenes, which is inexcusable.

you made it all the way to the end???  *salute*  a god among men

I could only stand like the first hour.

Which means you missed the awful, tacked-on ending! Rectify this immediately and prepare to shake your head furiously!
no effin way.  no effin way!  i'm not going back to that ever.  i'm glad I asked cajole the first time I ever watched my blu rays which version I should watch.  i was going to start with the theatrical cut without his guidance and I would have never watched any of the other cuts.

Tideland.  It's like a mish-mash of Alice in Wonderland, The Devil's Rejects, and Nekromantik.  Couldn't finish it, sadly.  I think this is the first Terry Gilliam flick that I've seen and really disliked from start to wherever I was when I finally turned it off.

[REC] - a spanish kind-of-zombie Blair Witch Project-style movie - surprisingly cool for a movie that has such a simple plotline.  The last 15 minutes or so is awesome.

Blade Runner is my favorite movie; and I mean even the theatrical cut is my favorite movie, despite its flaws. I do like the other versions better, but I do think it would not have been a hit no matter what. In its era, people expected Star Wars if they went to see a SF movie. No-one wanted to see a depressing future played out as film noir with existential meanderings. The voiceover really is droll though, and the tacked-on ending is just unreasonably stupid, and all but ruins the rest of the film's message. I guess I ignore it most of the time.
