Watched two movies yesterday, which is kind of astonishing for me these days: Crumb and American Splendor
They're related, obviously, both being biographies about comics creators who were friends and famously collaborated. I was so intrigued by the character of Crumb in American Splendor that I went straight into Crumb (which is a documentary, whereas American Splendor is a fictionalized biography mixed in with documentary elements).
Both are great films, but Crumb is definitely weightier in content. Both he and his entire family are strongly dysfunctional in several ways, but have a quite staggering talent. I literally gasped when I saw some of the stuff made by the family even as kids. Must-see doc, I'd say, even if you have no interest in comics.
