Top Gun was fucking exhilarating. On track for a 142 million four day opening weekend and deserves every penny.
I haven't enjoyed a movie this much in literal ages. It was fucking awesome.  Going to go back to see it again in the theater, it was that fun.  Totally a well worth sequel.

Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale - This was recommended to me as a good Finnish Santa weird/horror mashup.

Lived up to that! Was good weird and enjoyable. I enjoyed some of the twists and Santa was cool looking.

Top Gun 2 was good.

A summer blockbuster with decent acting, plot, and real sets? Who knew such a thing was possible? :cruise

Who knew we'd also get one of the more solid emotes from it with a broadly useful expression, good image-to-text ratio, lighting, being actively used and no one begged bork for it in the emotes topic :doge

Top Gun: Maverick is a heap of fun, and a worthy sequel. Very happy to watch it in the theater. It’s a better, more nuanced film than the original.

Tom Hanks sounds perfect for this but what a weird trailer, it's just b-roll footage?

Seems like a better direction. A lot of Netflix movies are just ok enough but not good enough to subscribe for.

It just becomes this sea of contentTM and there's nothing that really stands out in the crowd.

Netflix is bitter Apple TV won an Oscar before them. And that Marty went with Apple TV for Killers of the Flower Moon.

No, but once saw a headline about the stupid amount they were paying to get those Daniel Craig detective movies. Close to $500M? That’s without the budget for the actual productions.

What happened to the Tron: Legacy sequel?
I got so close. I really tried. I got close in 2015, and Disney pulled the plug on it. I hadn’t built anything, but I had the whole movie storyboarded and written. I was really excited because it was inverting the idea: It was all that stuff coming into our world, and it was about the blending of the two. But it was a different Disney by 2015. When I made Tron: Legacy, they didn’t own Marvel; they didn’t own Star Wars. We were the play for fantasy and science fiction. And once you’ve got those other things under your umbrella, it makes sense that you’re going to put your money into a known property and not the weird art student with black fingernails in the corner — that was Tron. And that’s okay. Had I made Tron: Ascension, I wouldn’t have made Only the Brave, and I wouldn’t have made the movies I made. But remember, the first Tron was not a hit when it came out. It’s a cult classic. And if Tron: Legacy’s becoming the same thing, I couldn’t be more thrilled.

That tweet is a bit weird, while that is in the linked article the linked article is actually about how Netflix is going to spend more money on bigger films from bigger names. Sounds like they would still consider giving a Scorsese a bunch of money to make something, just not an open-ended budget to make whatever the hell they want with no oversight.

I feel like I've read him give basically the same answer like 3-4 years ago.

Never say never...

I'll get cranky in 2038 when the equivalent timespan between films passes without a new sequel. Til then, current Disney kinda sucks, and I'll always have Legacy. 8)

Kosinksi is a fantastic director tho. Love Oblivion to bits.

Drunkenly rewatching the first Austin Powers and this made me sponaneously burst out laughing for 80+ seconds straight. I couldn't stop. Was not expecting such a joke. :lol

AP1 seems edgier even if I prefer AP2 overall (so far, during this rewatch).

Tell me an AP soft-reboot with a cryogencially-frozen-"90s" whippersnapper (Craig era style) playing opposite Mike Myers with moments of actual heart at the end wouldn't be a fun idea.

"Why are you always killing! ...Just feels unnecessary." *Mike Myers shrug*

Seth's Green now appropriately aged in-canon at least. (Mike Myers as Dr. Evil in AP1 = 34 years old, Seth Green today = 48 years old)

Appreciated the first Austin Powers for aping the aesthetic of old Bond movies. A full bodied parody. The sequels toned it down to do their own thing. The two OSS 117 movies aimed to be spoofs of old spy movies in style, too.

Fantastic Beasts 3 was bad.  Had some nice visuals but the story was a mess and boring.

That's the kind of co-worker that when they ask if you're going out to lunch you tell them you have some chores to run and then you're going to grab something quick on the way back.

Oh, god was it awful. Just endless padding and nonsense to get absolutely nowhere. Except now Dumbledore can battle his ex, but not until the fifth movie.

Also, Johnny Depp was replaced as the bad guy. And his ex defamed him in an op-ed article she didn't even write herself.

Watched Rain Man. The entire film is about a dude in sunglasses who goes around abusing mongos. I was lead to believe it was a heartrending film about 2 brothers finding each other. No it isn’t. It’s about a guy who goes to a home and shouts at tards, then kidnaps one and uses his mongo powers to get rich. Disgusting
