Did anything actually make this bill better than the earlier one that failed, or is it really all about the pork?  :-\

yeah, for what it's worth, we're still fucked, with credit lines frozen, unemployment rates rising, consumer spending in the shitter, and a total lack of liquidity. it's gonna be one fuck of a recession!

From what I've read, no.  This bill is actually worse than the one that failed.

my superficially informed impression is that it's actually worse, the main change being more lamebrained shit to appease deranged House Republicans.

credit will flow free like ambrosia on mount olympus or like garbage from a ninthing's mouth

really, banks will just need to take approximately 40-500 zillion more in write downs. all the banks can take that hit easily.

That's an awesome idea.  Think of the roster of pornstars and softcore actresses we can hire with our combined salaries.  I'll provide the viagra, Tauntaun the toys, PD the BBC and TVC the video.

It just occurred to me we could be tax-free if we make our mansion a place of worship.  Our religion will be neo-hedonism.

This is such bullshit and a shame.  >:(  Our leaders just sold us out for good ol salty pork!  Fucking tax cuts for race tracks, wool research, wooden arrows, $478 million in incentives for filmmakers, are you fucking kidding me?   :maf   :usacry

Oh well I hear Costa Rica is nice, time to google some property.

The stock market is a trip. It lost 777 points Monday when the resolution did not pass. It was up 200+ points today on the hopes that it would pass, and when it did... the stock market naturally gave back all of the day's gains and is at the moment barely in positive territory.

This sucks :gloomy

I've been reading Greenwald columns and this one does a pretty good job addressing defenders of the Paulson plan: http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2008/10/01/pearlstein/index.html

Some action was needed but this is not satisfactory at all.  Too late now I guess :'(

Where do I send my $20 CDN?

This may put a crimp in my depression-era attempt at reviving vaudeville comedy.

The pork in this plan is quite simply astonishing. Is there any precedent for this? Every Senate lifer has just had their prayers answered. Tax breaks for makers of wooden arrows for toy bows? WHAT THE FUCK
