Arr...!

I'm going to plonk myself in again right now. I've not even got the 7 Badges achievement yet.  :-\

Edit: Got the 7 badges one now. Holy cow the bat is a sick, sick weapon. The Pimp Hand is supposedly overpowered killing with one blow, but the baseball bat does knockdown/ragdoll damage, and unless the victim has team mates around, that is just game over. Usually the 2nd hit does it, but there's not a lot in the game LESS FUN than being batted around 2 or 3 times, right as you're about to get up and RUN AWAY.

Gotta say, I miss Blinged Out Ride mode.

BTW, apparently December 5 is Day of the Ninja, and Volition considers THE ULTIMATE BATTLE to be pirates vs. ninjas, so you can get the "Arr" badge on December 5 as well.

I got the "son" treatment for telling my so-called-teammates that they sucked after they lost a Strong Arm session that we'd have won if only, you know, they'd played the game instead of fucking around way outside the active Mayhem and Insurance Fraud areas. Christ, the online community of SR is always so crappy.

rise from your gwave

giving this thread the bumpzzorz as Im fricking hooked on grinding badges, gonna do all the co-op achievements with Chronovore, and Im buying all the DLC!!!

If any Evilbros want to boost some badges Im down  :-* I'll get most of them while going for Kingpin rank but need ones like party animal, 100 nutshots, set 15 dudes on fire, win 10 matches with more than 20 kills etc. as those are kinda incidental. Im a bit gutted I missed the Arr... badge  :-\

Im getting pretty darn good at Strong Arm  :D winning quite a lot and stuff.

Man Saints 2 is like one of the best games ever. It just keeps on giving.

well this is bumped anyhow, so did anyone try the supposedly busted ass PC version?  Since I'm enjoying Violition's RFG, I'm tempted to try their SR2 again (only played a few hours on PS3; got bored; was still better than GTAIV).  I'd rather play it on PC with better visuals/framerate and an X360 controller than the PS3 version.  What exactly was wrong with the PC version of SR2?

Get it on 360.  Get your 360 repaired or RRoD it then repair it or whatever you need to do already.

1.0 out of 5 stars Shoddy, unfinished, appalling, January 10, 2009

Plenty of people have been talking about Saints Row 2 - especially those that found GTA IV restrictive and dull. On consoles it seems be what many people have been crying out for - but on PC it simply does not work.

An appalling frame rate, terrible controls, no support for anything other than 360 controllers, impossible driving, constant bugs and glitches...

There has probably never been a worse PC version of a game in the history of the industry, it's beyond bad, it's a deliberate direct insult to everyone who doesn't own a console.

It runs so badly, and my computer is better than the best recommended specs (I can run GTA IV PC fine, along with all the most recent games), that it's inconceivable that any form of quality testing took place for this game. Based on the experience of people who I know have played it on PC I'd really like to see video evidence of someone at Violation running this game successfully on a PC.

Fundamentally, I simply do not believe this is a working product - there really needs to be a serious consideration of legal action against companies that are selling something that is this defective, not to mention websites selling it.

Doesn't work, looks like garbage, it's a company going out of their way to steal your money in return for nothing. Please, please, please don't make the mistake I did and buy this game.

1.0 out of 5 stars SIMPLY AWFUL, January 10, 2009

This is the worst port I've played in a long time. And I thought Mass Effect was bad. By comparison this game makes the transfer of Mass Effect from Xbox to PC look like a carefully designed masterpiece.

The controls are lousy. You cannot access menus through use of the mouse, which is so counter intuitive that it screams fail. The controls just always feel awkward no matter how much you tweak your key mapping. Miserable to play throughout.

The graphics are crummy, and despite having crossfired graphics cards (HD4870s). I can't get decent frames no matter what. I easily get 40-50 frames a second on very high in Crysis, and Saints Row pulls an awful 20-27 despite having inferior graphics. Other problems include common clipping issues, buildings and terrain that pops up out of nowhere, and the worst skins I've seen on character models since 2004. The models are sloppy, robotic looking, and frankly ugly. Enemies get frozen in space, stuck in doorways, etc... It's so bad it's amateurish. The graphic problems alone make the game almost unplayable.

Don't waste your money and try to play this game on the PC. It will frustrate you, anger you, and make you want to chuck the game in the trash. It cannot be played at high graphics even with a very high quality PC. I don't think they can even patch the thing to playability because of the graphic issues that may not be fixable. Don't buy under any circumstances.

Lyte, my US X360 is fine.  It's my j one that's gone.
But I wouldn't rebuy SR2 for X360 if I already have it on PS3.  I don't rebuy from one console to another.  Only console -> PC.

But yeah, SR2 on PC sounds lol.  No wonder they were practically giving it away at most places.

Maybe I'll give the PS3 version another shot one day.  I got bored of doing the raise your street cred or whatever minigames over and over.

Oh, didn't know you had it on PS3 already.  The 360 version is supposed to be the best one.

I finished SR2 pretty quickly-- had to do one or two street cred minigames every now and then and it never bothered me.

its a distinguished mentally-challenged complaint, respect is really easy to get in SR2

Then again Bebpo complained that Splosion Man had too many levels and was therefore too good value for money so who knows

I dunno, I didn't give it a real chance.  It was like "hey this GTA but with better controls/missions", "oh wait, I don't like GTA games" and then it was shelved and I played something else.  Also all I ever heard about was how great the coop was and since I got the PS3 version (the X360 version was sold out at the store), there was no one to play online with so I was like whatever, I guess I bought a coaster.  Time to move on.

I bought SR1 on X360 when it dropped to like $30 and never even opened it :(  GTA games usually don't appeal to me, not sure why I still buy them (I do like sandbox games, just not GTA games).  I bought Mercs 2 and haven't opened that either :\

Also PS3 version had no achievements and like you said that's kinda bad.  Less motivation for doing sidestuff.  It was one of the few games where I really regretted buying it on the wrong system.

I dunno, maybe I will rebuy it on X360 if I see it for $10 in the future and then I'll give it another shot.

You're better off that way.  Mercs 2 was awful.

The best thing about SR2 was how fucking ridiculous it all was.  They took the basic mechanics that worked so well in the first game and then got rid of the wigger-ness.....or amped it up, depending on how you look at it.  SR2 is GTA with clown shoes.  Adjustable clown shoes.

You don't have long to wait, Bebpo.  SR2 can be found for $19 new and $14 used.  Why not just trade the PS3 version towards a used 360 version in good condition?

fair enough, I guess if you dont enjoy GTA style games Saints 2 aint gonna change that

Typically I don't enjoy GTA style games either.  Crackdown, Saint's Row 2, and Red Faction Guerilla have been the only ones I have really liked.  The latter I didn't get very far in though; I prefer SR2 to it but I will give it another chance in the future.

thanks, that's good to know.  I have it on steam too and that it's a large download.

one of the main reasons I recently upgraded to quad core cpu was for those quick 360 to PC ports.  That and the eastern block games.

I came here to necro this not-dead-for-all-that-long thread, and instead find Scenester has beaten me to it. We've been trading gems like this over PM:
Saints Row has bent me over the table and had its way with me, and all I can do is pass it more lube and ask for a reacharound. The game satisfies every borito's needs.
(Note: I'm paraphrasing Scenester's actual words in consideration of their PM nature.)

I'm sporting major wood anew for SR2 as well. If SR2 just had sufficient gay innuendo, it would be the official game of THE BORE. Other than that oversight, it's It is a shining example of gameplay and controls over unnecessary graphic/animation middleware solutions, evolution in sequel games, intelligent re-use of assets, respecting the player's priorities... there is just so much the Volition guys did right.

It's surprising to hear that Scenester's having such luck online. Usually when I try to get a Strong Arm session going, there is NO ONE around. If I Quick Match, I only ever get into a deathmatch, usually in the damned MALL, and some lagswitch ballsac is blink-teleporting around like he's Nightcrawler on Red Bull. I've probably been in 3 Strong Arm matches TOTAL, and people were messing around so badly that I almost ended up winning entirely by completing the activities on my own.

Is there a term describing the phenomenon where, no matter how interesting or clever the online mode has been implemented, players will insist on devolving it into team deathmatch?

I bought Mercs 2 and haven't opened that either :\

Okay I did another 3 hours of multi or so, got 2 more badges and got the 15 badge cheev. Had a pretty poor night really, heaps of good pricks were on who were real crack shots. Died a trillion times.

Got the DLC, holy shit its worth it for the cars alone! Theres this AWESOME 'Apex' motorbike, fastest thing ever. New hairstyles are OMG hilarious, and the missions... well theyre missions. The DLC multiplayer achievement "Gangsta Brawler" is retroactive, if youve already won 10 matches it pops if you play a multiplayer game. Tag Team (hold all strong arm tag spots) was easy enough.

1210/1250 will be easy enough, its just the Kingpin achievement which is a huge bitch

I bet you a dozen pesos that Red Dead Revolver will be more about Unforgiven and Glory and less about Blazing Saddles. I predict less puzzle-based bosses, and no midgets hordes this time around.

Real question: Has there been a game with a better in-game character creator than Saints Row 2?

I was able to recreate myself with eerie accuracy in SR2 right down to the freaking t-shirt design which is something I've never been able to replicate in other games. Sure, my Commander Shepard looks a little like me but not as awesome as my OG gangsta.

I think APB had the best character creator for any game but I'm not sure if that counts.

Has to be a game you can still play, so: No.

I haven't encountered a more malleable game than Saints Row 2. Even SR1 was pretty fantastic; it's stunning how they have raised their own bar.

Smackdown may give it a run for its money: it does skinny/muscular/fat, but I think it has a hard time with age depiction.
