What is the greatest one-hit-wonder?
« on: October 13, 2008, 01:40:57 AM »
So, I've been sitting here listening to Come On Eileen (Dexy's Midnight Runners) for the last hour or so and a very important question popped into my head. that question being the one posed in the thread title. So far I have been able to think of Come On Aileen (the only correct answer) and Take On Me.

Any other contenders?

It's not my favorite, but that's the answer.

This would be my favorite (Shattered Dreams). With Kajagoogoo's "Too Shy" being a close second.

I was going to say either "Come On Eileen" or "Take On Me" off the top of my head, and those are the first two responses. Awesome.

I hate it more than life itself but you can't deny that it made the entire world completely fucking nuts for a few months...or longer.

Isn't Faith No More basically a one hit wonder?  I mean, they had lots of other great stuff, but only one real big hit.

Well, I guess Falling to Pieces, too, but that wasn't nearly as big.

That's who I was thinking of.  Everyone knows him, but he was a real flash in the pan

I don't know Falling to Pieces, but I thought Easy was a bit of a hit.  But Epic was probably still gigantic in comparison.

Lucas - Lucas With The Lid Off

Quote
An excellent music video that aired briefly on MTV in 1994 and soon became largely forgotten. This one was filmed in B&W to produce an old-timey ambience that works very well with the ragtime sound. Pay close attention to the continuity. The whole video was filmed with a steadycam, in one continuous shot...an unbelievably difficult task that only someone like Michel Gondry could pull off. This catchy vid is no longer in production and a rare treat to find, wherever it happens to bubble up ;-)

I bought this guy's album too.  Enjoyed most of it actually but he didn't catch on at all.

Rick Astley is probably more well known than anyone in this thread thanks to the Internet. Way to think outside of the box, loser.
