That was Obama's worst debate and probably (kinda by default) McCain's best.

Wait where can I get a transcript?

Did McCain say that Palin's son had autism instead of Downs?

I don't particularly agree with that.  I thought Obama did quite well in terms of health care, the personal attack portion, and pretty much all of the last half hour.

No, he didn't. It seemed like he was referring to Trig, but he was actually talking about autism because it's THE hot topic nowadays for parents who don't want to take responsibility for their child's behavior.

I'm not sure anyone will get a bounce.  Obama did well, but not as well as in the past 2 debates, and the smiling and laughing irked me.  He couldn't even hold it during the fucking ABORTION question.  McCain didn't do anything new at all, but he went out there with a more aggressive attitude than in previous debates, and I think that at least gets him some points.

Quote

He said something like "Sarah knows about autism."  That can very easily be read to be about Trig or whatever the fuck its name is.

Was it McCain's best debate? Did you not see him fall apart at the end of the Ayers exchange? The incoherent rambling when he ran out of arguments? I mean seriously, if you guys just want someone on stage acting like a dick in a suit im pretty sure I can find a suit.

I work with kids who truly have autism. I also work with whiny unmotivated asocial weirdos whose parents think they're autistic, but "can't get a diagnosis because it's too expensive."

He did that in every debate.  Well, not specifically about Ayers, but still.  Like I said, the content was the same, but he came across as more aggressive and assertive.

Note that I'm not sayign McCain won or anything.  Just that it was Obama's weakest and McCain's strongest.

Was it Obamas weakest? I saw more actual confrontation from Obama this debate than the other two. Of course he's going to look squirrelish doing something he doesnt normally do like go aggressive in a debate. The fact he held it together as much he did in the face of SUCH UTTER BULLSHIT is a testament to his skill, and if anything I saw a bit of Biden in Obama tonight.

McCain was assertive but he took it far too many times.  A lot of times he just looked angry, crazy, or disturbed.

Obama's smiling and laughing will catch him a bunch of shit from the right wing media as the elitist Pah-ki-stahn eloquence looking down on McCain and Joe the Plumber.

It was Obama's worst by far.  His cool demeanor was compromised by his laughing, which really doesn't fare well with any candidate.  Even with McCain's BS, he still should kept it cool the entire time.

I give this a narrow Obama victory.  There are enough takes provided by McCain's antics to make him appear to be unstable.  Not to mention some of his contradictions.

Wandering around keeps the blood from pooling with older hearts. Its a similar situation in people with POTS. The longer they stand the more anxious and jittery and uncomfortable they feel; so they start shifting feet or walking.

There is no way that McCain came out of that debate with any new voters.  Incoherent ramblings are not going to get you elected this time.  This was his last shot to try to pull away some of the growing support from the Obama camp and it is going to fail - cannot wait to see the numbers after this debate.

Obama handled himself very well when explaining the Ayers connection.  The only retort that McCain could manage (after Obama explained his relationship with Ayers) was that we need to know everything - a cyclical arguement that has shown to not have much traction outside of right wing radio that keeps hammering it home.

This election is over. I hope Sarah! is packing her shit cause its a long flight back to her house overlooking Russia.

Being on the attack for the hell of it is a shit idea for debate. Being on the offensive only works when your punches connect, and can't be easily deflected and/or delivered right back with an effortless, mellow gesture. I'm really hoping Americans are smart enough to see this shit for what it is.

McCain: "Blah Joe blah"
Obama: "Incorrect, and here's why"
McCain: "Well, blah blah blah!"
Obama: "Incorrect, and here's why"
McCain: "BLAH!
Obama: "Incorrect, and here's why"

Watching the supposed "professionals" rate this debate was fucking torture. I guess the old Republican method of saying anything, truth be damned, actually works even on the weathered pros. Good grief.

George Will: Obama has mastered the art of the rope-a-dope

Couldn't agree more. Every punch McCain threw was brushed off by Obama with ease. If Obama was good at throwing punches he'd be a master debater.

Best moment: Obama's comeback on special needs education and how it would be hurt by the ridiculous spending freeze McCain proposes. McCain's comeback about Obama wanting to "throw money" at things being a bad idea was laughable.

I really thought Obama dropped the ball on Acorn. He didn't really address the issue. That could have been a fun, home run hit (say bringing up Micky Mouse and how he can't vote because he DOESN'T EXIST).

It was so obvious that Obama wanted McCain to bring up Ayers. He got to put that to bed in front of 60-70 million people.

What you guys have been saying... Obama's weakest debate yet. He had his eyes shut during a lot of McCain's statements. McCain was totally on the prowl, aggressive as all hell tonight. Not that I think this debate made a difference at this point.

Watched on CBS and they actually had Joe the Plumber call in, can't recall what he said since it was loud in the room I was watching it, but I think he said "McCain came out very strong".

Actually not everyone's been saying this was Obama's weakest.

That being said the two worst moments for McCain, which probably killed it all for him:

1.) Ayers conversation ending on him flailing, and BAD. Who cares if he was aggressive, he was basically an 8 year old with an Apache Helicopter.

2.) The sudden promotion of the plumber to that of a corperate millionare so he would get taxed by Obama's healthcare plan.

Yes, Obama looked less at ease. Why? He doesnt do aggressive in debates. Watch the first two, WAY less confrontational and way more in his element. Biden had to deal with much of what Obama dealt with tonight, and he looked natural because that is how Biden does things. I think Obama did extremely well encountering bald face lies, while not insulting McCain, as McCain clearly did to him.

Props should not go to the asshole that manages to NATURALLY act like an asshole. Come on.

McCain came off angry and testy. Sure he came out swinging like I said, but he didn't do anything to change people's opinions. Hell I thought Obama dropped the ball by not retorting McCain's "if you wanted to run against Bush you should have run in 04" by not following it up with a smackdown. A 10% MAVERICK IS NO MAVERICK AT ALL. He should have said something like that.

This debate definitely had lots of memorable lines, like the "gold plated Cadillac" one, and McCain thinking Palin's kid is autistic... but what really stood out for me was McCain trying to buy the sympathy card by saying "boo hoo some senator is talking shit about me and saying horrible things about me but you haven't denounced him for that", and then Obama was basically "I think we should focus on the economy, and not either of us getting insulted".
