I had a 1st gen one but decided that I didn't like it after a few weeks, then switched over the the blackberry pearl, and then I decided that I didn't like that one after a day. I was just too lazy to change phones until yesterday, though.

The GPS on this thing sucks, btw.

BlackBerry Curve is seriously the best mobile device I've ever owned.  Fantastic messaging and e-mail capability, tons of great software, great call quality, Wi-Fi capable (I make calls through Wi-Fi all the time!), etc.

I got one a couple weeks ago, and I am really liking it.  It's exactly what I wanted -- a phone + iPod.  Great interface, and the WiFi support is a nice bonus.  I love that I can listen to music, get a call and not have to scramble to remove my headphones and answer it.  Taking calls on the headphones is great too -- way better than the crappy speakers you encounter on most cell phones.

I haven't found any interesting apps yet, but the game selection is pretty cool.  I would recommend "Trace" which is sorta like the Kirby DS game (you draw lines onscreen to aid platforming).

Most of the people that seem to whine about iPhones are power users that get upset that some weird little niche thing isn't supported.  Which is fine and I know the feeling, but for an everyday non-business user it's really a great phone.

I love my iPhone, but the biggest problem is the battery life.  You don't have to be a "power user" to have the battery be nearly drained on you at the end of the day, and that sucks.  Games, movies, or doing music and internet together will drain the battery WAY too quickly.

iPhones blow.  A phone is immediately a failure if it doesn't have decent battery life.  In that regard, my Windows Mobile phone that I kinda totally hate is better than an iPhone.  My next phone will probably be an Android.

The iPhone highlights the major problem with Apple:  they go cheap on hardware.  You get a neat OS with neat functionality, but because Apple needs to cheap out on the battery, a solid portion of the attractiveness gets flushed.  For just a wee bit more money, a wee bit off the margin, Apple could have made the iPhone great.  Instead, it's shit.  And rev 2 is even worse than the first iPhone in this regard.  Apple needs to learn to readjust their hardware quality over cost ratio, because it blows right now.

i'd pretty much rather have a good blackberry than an iphone nowadays. everyone around here has an iphone and i already get the feeling that it's played out. i am kind of getting sick of hearing about iphone. besides, blackberry seems more practical.

alas, i have zero money for a new phone and will be stuck with an LG chocolate for the next 2 years :'(

Honestly, the battery life on the latest android phone is just as bad.  The 3G antennae really drains the battery life on these phones.

While I wouldn't brag about the battery life vs any other phone, my 8525 does a lot better than iPhones do, and I use 3G all the time.  Apple just cheaped out on the battery.

But :( on the Android.  I am on contract with AT&T for like another year, so I have to wait until they get their Android phone.  Hopefully they can make the battery life better.

I need a new phone and I want something that people are actually making cool apps for.  That leaves me with the Android line and the iPhone.  I'm just going to have to hope that the AT&T Android phone is better than the G1.

i don't really have a problem with the battery life on my iphone.  i charge every other day it seems.  i think most people make the mistake of keeping their screen at full brightness.

Not having any problems with the 2G iPhone battery life, though perhaps it's because I don't use the WiFi/data network very much.  Plus I always end up plugging it in at the end of the day because I wanna update my podcasts, so I never end up trying to stretch a charge over a couple of days.

I don't watch much video on it -- I kinda wonder who really has the time to.  People that use public transit, I guess.

I don't know about Apple going 'cheap' with hardware.  You are talking about the AT&T 8525?

From CNET:
Quote
The AT&T 8525's battery is rated for 4 hours of talk time and up to 8.3 days of standby time. In our battery drain tests, we were able to get a solid 6 hours of talk time before calling it kaput.

Different tests for the 3G iPhone compare pretty favorably.
http://gizmodo.com/5025309/round-up-nine-iphone-3g-battery-life-test-results
Quote
One takeaway seems to be that as far as straight-up 3G talk time goes, the iPhone 3G is near the top of the range—Wirelessinfo and PC World both found it to be among the best 3G handsets they've tested for voice talk time. For mixed use and browsing numbers, the range is pretty wide, since the variables at play are nearly infinite.

FWIW, Apple states talk time is around 5 hours, internet/3G usage is about the same.

I have used the previous model of that AT&T phone (the 8125 maybe?) - or maybe even that same one I'm not sure.  Regardless, it's a standard Windows Mobile phone but I don't really feel it's pulling as much work out of the hardware as the iPhone or (i would imagine) the G1.

The OG iPhone battery life was very, very good.  It took a hit with the 3G, but the 3G iPhone has among the best ratings when it comes to battery life for 3G smartphones.

Same with the G1.  I don't doubt that will improve with newer versions of Android.  But those apps + 3G + solid web browsing are still going to give any battery a workout.

no 411 bot app? no yellow pages app?  no real time driving/destination app?  no always on background AIM app?

all of those are available and FREE on the Blackberry Curve
