Just watch it, it was good but Viserys meltdown seemed a bit random, in the book she ask someone to bring him to her and they tell him "the Khalesee commands you to go to her" or something and he loses it but here he just randomly appears out of the bushes and star screaming :lol

And again, no wolves.

i'm guessing they are waiting a bit before they really show us Kings Landing. for budgetary reasons obviously

Yeah I was looking forward to seeing the dragon pit and the red keep.

Watching the series, but I haven't read the books. Tonight's episode was a bit dull for most of the runtime. The imp's scenes were the best, and the exiled queen's growth is interesting. I was worried that Kings Landing or whatever its called would be boring and so far it has been.

I was really disappointed with the King's Landing scenes, especially the council meeting; the actors sped through their lines, and Littlefinger's delivery was so wooden. This carried over into his scene with Catelyn (who's been a great actress through all three episodes). I liked Jaime's tense scene with Ned, and the one with Cersei and Joffery, but just about everything else was just off. BUT Arya's dinner scene was clearly the best of the night

Luckily things rebounded afterward, with good scenes on the Wall (driven by Tyrion) and the Dany stuff, which finally worked. In the previous episodes her scenes were easily the worst aspect, but last night they were good - in no small part due to an increase in screen time for Mormont. Great actor, he really elevates the Dorthraki stuff beyond the natural cheese of that storyline (which gets better as the book progresses).

side notes..

-Lancel Lannister sighting  :o
-very brief Bran scenes. Really liked the one with Old Nan
-The Wall shots look fantastic

The wolves adds a visual tension to scenes and would help the King's Landing stuff I think.

There has been discussion that it's been very hard to get the dogs to cooperate on set.

side note: While the King's Landing stuff fell flat overall, I really liked the scene with Robert and Barriston, and wonder how people unfamiliar with the books perceived it. As a fan of the books, it was fascinating seeing Robert discuss killing one of Barriston's fellow soldiers so freely; Barriston fought alongside the Targs during the rebellion. A new viewer probably watched that thinking "who is this old guy, and why is the camera fixed on his face"

That whole scene seemed like wasted time to me. It felt like a bit of character building, but it didn't tie into anything else.

Yup, makes sense. Worked for fans, but not anyone else. Would have made sense for Robert to at least mention Barriston was on the other side at the time.

the intro music is so dope

also: best scene so far in the show

edit: man with the slow build of the music being all innocent then growing to be more serious as Ned starts to see the truth: his daughter is being trained to be a soldier and not a lady. SO GOOD

The Syrio scene was definitely very good. I wonder how much input Martin had overall but I feel as though he may have influenced these pivotal scenes.

Anyone who thinks we are going to be seeing huge scale battles and general LOTR-style spectacle in this is high as a kite. Maybe once or twice a series. It's TV. 90% of it HAS to be talking heads, or the budget would be untenable.

Sooo much exposition this ep, and yet imo it was the best episode of the season thus far. Much of the exposition flowed well enough, with a couple hiccups (that Viserys scene in the bath).

So far all the Wall stuff has been amazing, and tonight was no exception; the Wall also had the best exposition scene imo (Thorne's tale about his ranger outing beyond the Wall). Great introduction of Sam, and I love how the other night's watch members have been involved thus far.

The King's Landing stuff was way better this ep; liked Littlefinger a lot more, and I really liked the introduction of Gendry.

Seems like the show is finding its legs after a somewhat troublesome (but still good) start. Most of the early reviews have said the 5th and especially 6th episodes are very strong, and I can't wait.

really enjoying the show. Reading what other people, who have read the books, have to say is interesting. I'm not having any issues with the pacing and most of the story-lines are well worth their screen time. I think I'll be picking up the books next chance I get (summer, probably).

All that exposition was handled surprisingly well as they (almost mostly) happened alongside character moments with them naturally discussing the world around them.

It actually made me think back to how sharp those redlettermedia prequel reviews were about how characters and exposition was handled:

*shot of one character sitting down woodenly discussing plot points -> cut to opposite character sitting across woodenly discussing plot points*

Its annoying reading the comments in regards to pace. Some people are angry its moving at breakneck speeds then you've got people complaining that a good chunk of this episode was devoted to exposition. Some people are forgetting that this isn't a show for the fans but fans and newcomers all.

Great episode. Caught the 11pm showing in HD at my mom's cousin's house :bow

Some of the scenes dragged on too long (that Renly/Loras scene, and the Robert/Cersei scene), but the lack of exposition made things run smoothly overall.

If episode 7 is truly the ep people will be talking about, I have to question the idea of putting it online early. I guess it will guarentee buzz/word of mouth and translate into good ratings, but it's still odd.

spoilers
spoiler (click to show/hide)
ep 6 is called The Golden Crown, so we know what that's about. I'm guessing Robert will go on his hunt in that episode, and return injured/die in ep 7. If that's the case, Ned would die in ep8 unless they rush things. Dunno, I don't think ep7 makes sense as a place for that big event.

A ton of plot revelation and shock and developments this episode, also, very bloody. It's interesting that this episode signals the turning point, when things really start to get going, and may be the best so far, but is also the most horrifying in manners of violence and human actions.

Still, there were many visual mishaps in the storytelling that threw me out of the fiction. One, the flaccid penis after fucking a girl. It ruined the illusion in a time of easy porn access. Weird, but true. Also, there was one other mishap, which I cannot remember right now. I think it involved the spider and the whore house owner, but I am sure. I just know that it threw me off as well.

hopefully the split the next 2 books into two season each.

Book 2 and 3 could easily be crammed into 1 longer season. 2 really drags it's feet

Book 2/3 spoilers
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Arya's CRAAAZY ADVENTURES could easily be condensed. All the Renly/Stannis nonsense could be over and done in 3 or 4 eps. Even Theon's coup could be introduced, concieved and executed in like 5 episodes. Book 2 has a lot of padding and moving pieces around that could be chopped out

ACOK has a lot of "filler" that could be cut out for the show. I use the quotation marks because many people complain about the exposition and lack of action throughout much of ACOK. To me there's so much depth and domino pieces that it's great. I think it could be done in 10 episodes, although I'd prefer 11-12 so the pace isn't so fast; I'd imagine the first few episodes will be burdened with exposition and introducing new characters (Stannis especially).

Splitting ASOS into two 10 episode seasons would be great. I can think of a perfect place for that first season to end...

The problem with cutting out 'filler' is that we don't know what is just background color and what is just the start of a long-term plotline. Presumably the producers of the show have got plenty of input direct from the source on what is safe to cut though.

Loved last night's ep, shit is starting to hit the fan. Blood and guts galore.

It's starting to bother me that Sean Bean constantly looks like he just wet his pants in fear. A bit of concern is certainly warranted in his situation, but he is supposed to be stoic.

Seems like there's a major debate over book details every week on WiC. Usually it boils down to nitpicking or an insistence that the show replicate the books 100%, but this week I agree with the fans: I really don't like what the show has done with Renly. The sex stuff doesn't bother me, although I would have preferred a better reveal of their relationship.

Making Renly a pansy is such an odd, stupid move. In the books Renly participates in the jousting Tourney and eventually loses to The Hound; he's also one of Robert's hunting partners. Physically he's the spitting image of his brother during the rebellion: tall, strong, pure badass. So why is he a lanky baby in the series, scared of blood?

I "get" the general idea of Loras influencing Renly, it makes sense and will be interesting to watch later in the series. But I just hate the idea of Renly being some court cretin afraid of his own shadow. And speaking of Loras, why does the actor look like he's never visited a gym in his life? Loras is one of the most accomplished fighters in the series. I must say it's puzzling that the producers didn't set up some type of 300-esque gym program to get some of these guys in shape.

Yeah, I really don't get why they decided to change Renly that much, he was pretty brave in the books and here he is some craven( yeah I'm pissed off about they saying coward instead in the show) that fears the sight of blood.

Some gaffer that apparently knows the guy playing Loras said that he and the guy that plays Renly decided to hit the gym before season 2 starts shooting so hopefully they will look like proper medieval warriors next season.
