Just looked at it again and on one hand the table is destroyed like she ate the table and maybe more stuff. Otoh, you'd think he'd show a shoe on the ground or something to indicate that. All you see is Caramel's robe, but since she was dropping the act that could be her ditching her robe and taking off.

Like it feels like if Oda wanted to do something that dark and fucked up he would have shown something to indicate it more cause that's really dark even for OP. Pretty sure that's not what happened.

Big Mom has Mother Caramel's power tho

So if that didn't happen, there's still an explanation needed for that

This is a good point. Do we know if you can get a devil fruit power by eating a devil fruit user?

Hmmm, I'm starting to think you're right about what happened last chapter. I wonder if it's more like her eating/stealing lifespan power and she stole all their lifespans.

I don't get how it can work. All your budget is going to go to special effects, it's going to be hella expensive and the audience is niche. It makes no sense.

Why are western One Piece fans such weeaboos, holy shit.

Like, every time someone brings up Devil Fruit they say it in Japanese. They'll say Bara Bara no Mi instead of Chop Chop Fruit or Mera Mera No Mi instead of Flame Flame Fruit. It's weird to me that English speakers are more comfortable the word fruit in another language and not English. I just came from the One Piece wiki and it has the devil fruits all in their Japanese name, which is ridiculously stupid. There's a post at the top of the main page of r/one piece right now where some guy calls a straw hat a mugiwara. https://i.redd.it/2g9ln7phk8kz.jpg It's so weird. I find it odd as a long time reader and fan. I know that Kaizoku subs infected One Piece with this silliness when they refused to translate nakama but they always translated fruit names to my memory and certainly called the Strawhats the Strawhats and not the Mugiwaras. Is this just something the newer generation of One Piece fans do? Why all the romanized Japanese? I feel like the only fan who calls the Shichibukai the Warlords for instance. My question is why? Why mugiwara instead of strawhat?

Yeah, that arc is a bit tedious but still good.

I'm reading the manga for the first time too and I think I'm now at the end of the Water 7 arc. At least they're all on the way to Enies Lobby which marks a new arc I guess?

Anyway Water 7 was :lawd

Oda's art is great other than his thin waist/big boobs teenage hormones female designs. The small details and facial expressions always impress. The color spreads every 5 chapters are so are some of my favorite comic art. I always use them as wallpaper for my desktop.

It's nice seeing an opponent who is not even the final boss being a real non-gimmick challenge for Luffy. I really like the fight between him on Dogtooth guy. Luffy is having to use his brains!

I do feel that Luffy is about to get a power boost though, there's still no way he can stand with the Yonkou right now and we're really getting close to endgame for the series. The problem is then all the crew will be even further behind Luffy, but that just seems inevitable. I mean they used the timeskip to power up everyone else, but without another timeskip, the other members just aren't going to have any more big jumps imo. But I guess they'll still be a good match for the 2nd/3rd tier generals in Yonkou groups.

best arc ever

I swear you say this like every arc :P

But yeah, as long as this doesn't outrun it's stay this is shaping up to be the best arc in the new world half.

Haven't said it since Sabaody/Impel Down/Marineford.

Fishman island was weak and Dressrosa was the first time I had to put One Piece on hold because the pacing was so bad.

So no, I really don't. :yeshrug In terms of drama, intrigue, adventure, high stakes, emotion, great storytelling, character writing, character designs, plenty of dark moments, and overall fun this arc takes the cake (lol). I can't really think of anything better than it at this point. I was going to wait for it to conclude before I announced it as my favorite arc to see where it went, but it just hits all of my buttons as to why I love One Piece.

FYI, I rate One Piece arcs like so:

1. Whole Cake
2. Sabaody/Impel Down/Marineford (I combine them into one arc because it feels like one arc to me)
3. Arlong
4. Water 7/Enies Lobby
5. Sky Piea

best arc is best. how oda managed to make a late-series protagonist battle (katakuri) in a shounen series intense but still grounded is omg

and while i also tire of the typical female designs, oda’s a rare shounen author that writes good, sympathetic bits for the (admittedly occasional) non-typical ladies — he’s made lola and chiffon into admirable people, rather than comic relief. and big mom is easily the scariest fuckin’ villain in the series so far, since we all know she won’t be stopped by any traditional shounen showdown method.

Big Mom final boss form is legit
scary afffffff

Strawhats are fucked. I wonder if they're gonna lose another ship. Probably not since they left it on a cliffhanger so something can come and save them. I totally thought up until the last panel that she was gonna jump off and cleave the ship in two on the way down.

Idk, say what you want about OP bursts of power, but stealing the wheels off the boats was fucking greaaaaat. Also when she made the bad guy cut up all his own boats chasing her...so good. Carrot's cool in my book. Pudding is great too as a female Sanji. One Piece, where everyone is a nakama.

Can someone who is good at science explain to me how Brook's slicing the thunder cloud in two caused static electricity between the two halves causing it to direct nami's(?) lightning down to fry Big Mom?
[close]

The art in this chapter is fucking AWESOME. I love how badass they've made Big Mom out to be. I also like that there aren't a bunch of bs magical saves and it was a pretty fair fight. It's great to see non-Luffy team hold up on their own, especially against a fucking Yonkou. Go team!

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I also like that Sunny actually took some real damage. Gonna need to get it repaired after this...
[close]

And as always, :bow BOSS JINBE :bow2

Brooke's been putting in the effort too, between this chapter and the Carrot stuff before. Plus his sneaking in with Big Mom earlier in the arc and getting the graph. If last arc was Usopp putting in his effort, this arc is Brooke shining for sub-characters. Nami too with the cloud stuff.

Brook can fight Homies because he has the Soul Soul fruit and they are embued with souls. I think. So anyways, he cuts Zeus in half and Nami feeds him black balls, which as we've established this arc makes Zeus grow and unleash a powerful lightning charge. When Nam fed Zeus the black belts she made him set his charge off.
[close]

At least, that's what I think happened.

All characters besides Chopper really shine this arc. I really love what Oda's done with Nami. Brook has improved the most, easily. Before Whole Cake he was boring as fuck. Now he owns.
