Oh god, the day is here, the day where I run half a marathon
« on: November 15, 2008, 02:35:29 AM »
Last week was 19km/12miles, now it's the full half marathon. Couldn't find a contest close at home so I'll be doing this on my own, armed with a 1UPY podcast so I don't think about the pain too much. It'll probably take me a little over 2 hours, I hope I don't got a shit coming up halfway through.

Lets hope I make it.

See you on the other side bore, going to start in a bit!

1upyours is really boring this week so you might fall asleep while running.

Finished and took a long shower, even with preparation it's fucking hard. My legs and buttocks are killing me. Luckily I have good shoes so my feet are pretty good considering. The last 5km I had to slow down a lot cause my heart was constantly going over 182 bpm, except for the last stretch where I tried to go allout and had over 200 bpm, close to my max (last time 205). Now going to eat like an animal cause I burned over 3000kcal. A full marathon is a bit too long for my tastes.

Good job Tieno. Will you try the full marathon?
At this moment it seems way too long to even think about it. I don't think I have the body type to do that either cause I'm not really all that thin and don't want to get that thin anyway. I'd guess my weight would need to get in the low 70s, I'm 1m90 and my weight these days is between 82 and 84kg. I don't want to lose muscles and rather the fat I still have now be replaced by muscles than lose 10kg, cause muscles burn more kcal.

Have you checked out Crossfit Endurance?

http://crossfitendurance.com/

I don't go in for long distances myself but I know a lot of (online) folks that swear by the methods. Basically, the message is that you don't need to be thin and do major mileage to be a good long distance runner.

Congrats tieno.   To balance things out, I'm going to smoke half a pack of cigarettes today.

Dude, I weigh around 84kg, and I did a full one earlier this year. Your weight isn't terribly important. It's really just a matter of getting all your muscles to the point where they can take that kind of pounding.
Hmm, thanks. Maybe I'll do it one day, but I first need to get used to the half marathon, because no way I can do double that atm.

Congrats tieno.   To balance things out, I'm going to smoke half a pack of cigarettes today.
