I'm with them.  This is very informative.

So you were born in Texas, would you ever consider moving back to the states?

Also, is alcohol completely illegal there or is just that muslims can't drink?

3. if you are a transvestite, waht happens to you?
4. if you are a trasnvestite who recently turned male, then successfully got a driver license on account of your male looks, then got into some accident, appeared before a court, and the court finds out you were born female but became male, what happens
in iran, to my understanding, this is quite common.  transsexuals, rather than transvestism and it's socially acceptable.

You'll find a lot of differences between what's right and wrong in Iran and Saudi Arabia. We agree on the most basic stuff but differ on others.

that's the same for everywhere.  to presume that there's a monoculture because of the prevalence of the same religion is absurd.

Serious question my fellow A-rab: what's with the shooting guns in the air on every manifestation. Don't you waste too much ammo that way?

also done by latin americans and by black americans (crown heights had people shooting guns in the air in celebration on nov 5th).

it's just a thing.

Hi jinfash.

BEST NEW MEMBER SINCE MUCKHOLE CONFIRMED

I always wonder about the young people of faraway lands. The old people are pretty much the same everywhere. Whereas here most of the college-age people are kinda not religious, anxious about getting a job after college, and BROKEASS LIKE A MOTHERFUCKER

Yeah, the 99/72 virgins thing is pretty much a myth. It's a very weak Hadith.

I like the first half of the Qur'an and the last third. They're so damn different. But my favorite parts of the Qur'an are the retellings of the things you read about in the bible and the torah, because I prefer the way the Qur'an tells the stories more, even if my translation kinda blows.

I read stuff like the surah on Joseph (a favorite of mine), Abraham, Hud, The Rock (as it is called in my translation), and I did the beginning of The Honey Bee. Quite honestly, I love the middle part of the Qur'an.

I want a new Qur'an. I have two Qurans and I'm not satisfied with either translation.

Jinfash: he says this because I wish to convert. He thinks I should study more uh spiritual things and not use a religion. He's an atheist though.

On the issue of polygamy, I disagree with it heavily but I can see why it was useful back in Muhammad's time. The husband was a provider for women who had been left without a protector.

Also, is alcohol completely illegal there or is just that muslims can't drink?

I don't think I'll ever move back permanently, not with the crappy economy and lack of jobs :P

I'm not sure how much this applies to the medical field, but in the U.S. right now being educated + able to speak arabic and English = $$$$.  For a doctor, that probably applies more to Europe than the U.S. though.  In the U.S. you could probably get an amazing job with the U.S. Army.  But as we all know, that's a trap!  If you do decide to move back to the U.S., please be my sugar daddy.  :-*

Quote
and as for alcohol, in Saudi Arabia it's illegal to drink it in public places period. If you're a foreigner though, you can drink in your own place or your compound, in fact most of your country's rules can be applied in those places as they try to make you as comfortable as they can.

It's worth noting that Alcohol is legal in some neighboring countries like Bahrain and the UAE, so most of the people go there to get drunk if they feel like it (Bahrain is like 20 mins away from where I live).

In that case, do people commonly go over the border to get drunk on weekends?  Bar culture is such an integral part to European and American young adult lives, it's hard to imagine a place where life doesn't revolve around that.

Regarding the 72 virgins thing: Shias don't believe it and I'm pretty sure that most Sunnis question it.  The number 72 was used in old Arabic as a figure of speech for a "a shitload".

Jinfash, my Iranian relatives say that x-parties are big over there.  What do Saudi kids do for fun?

I'm supposed to have a 10 page paper on Islam done by tomorrow, so I just started a couple minutes ago and am reading up on it.  It's almost scary how much lines up with how I live my life.  I'm starting to think that my parents had subliminal cues around the house that made me act like this so I would be muslim or something without being direct with it.

what

no no no no

you dont understand

sex with a virgin, as long as 1. the virgin is hot, and 2. you don't really give a shit about the virgin beyond sex, is an expereince beyond few others.  It is the mindblowing pleasure of contaminating that which is pure.  It is the manner of penetrating that which is adolescent.  It is the FEELING of impregnating that which is vulnerable, and feminine.  It is the ecstaasy of SHEER JOY OF SEX for the male at the explicit expense and pain  of the lady - a pain that is oh so deliciously visible and prominent - all the while without raping.

Man I wish i was a muslim.  Atheism suxxxxx :piss2

Yeah it is, and it's stupid.
I don't know why they do it, prolly to show their courage or something. It's a tradition mostly done by Arabic nomads (Bedwins), and leads to accidents:

:lol

smh

holy shit.

I've heard of weddings being abruptly terminated when a falling bullet hits someone in the party. Or in the village down the road. What goes up must come down. Only a grade A douche would fire live ammo like that.

mythbusters did a test and found out that when a bullet is coming straight down after being shot up, it has too little mass to hit with lethal force.  it's still a stupid way to have fun as that video shows.

At least in my experience there are two tells of being Persian (don't know about Arabs):

1) Hairy
2) Wears and obnoxious amount of black

I honestly never understood that.  All the guys were wearing black suits with black shirts and black ties.

You're missing out! I was the same, also grew up in a Muslim household (I'm Moroccan) but my parents are hardly what you'd call strict muslims and the only implemented rule was no pork in the house. So I never ate it until I turned 16 and godamn that bacon in a fry up was heavenly!
