Not a big fan of it, but it does have its moments.

I'm at my post-viewing stage where I just keep remembering awesome parts of that film (Marlon Brando, "The End" montages at the beginning/ending of the film, Duvall's Kilgore character, the French remnants of Indochina in the Redux additions)

Easily the best Vietnam film.

The EB collective doesn't like this movie or at least this cut.

Personally, I thought it was a great movie.

You mean the original? I plan on doing that.

Honestly, from what I've read, if they just added the French scene, it really wouldn't have negatively effected the film. Honestly, the "redux" additions other than that just made the film unnecessarily longer.

To you maybe.

Apocalypse now it's like "Hollywood Nam". Platoon imo kicks the shit out of it.

I'm not going to deny that Platoon was good, but I think Apocalypse Now conveys some messages that are even beyond the Vietnam War or are only amplified by the war in the film. Platoon is just a war movie. Apocalypse Now is so much more at it's core.

Both verisions are about the same in quality I think, don't really prefer one or the other. BUUT the movie itself? Amazing. Coppola's best movie, better than either of the first two Godfathers.

I'm not willing to concede to that quite yet. I fucking love me some Godfather I and II.

I will concede that it's on the same level of quality.

To be fair I haven't seen either Godfather film in over 5 years and have seen Apocalypse Now, that may have an impact on my opinion. I really should watch them, I got that new boxset that came out pretty recently.

Great great movie. Never seen Redux, and many have suggested I ignore it.

Now watch the good version.

Cant be stated enough. If you liked the bloated Redux, then youll love the far leaner, superior theatrical cut.

Both verisions are about the same in quality I think, don't really prefer one or the other. BUUT the movie itself? Amazing. Coppola's best movie, better than either of the first two Godfathers.

Coppola's best movie is actually The Conversation.

My second favorite Vietnam movie. Brando was amazing.

Apocalypse Now is amazing, I love it. So surreal, I get a contact high just watching it. Platoon? Are you guys fucking kidding me, have you even seen this movie?

The Redux is kinda meh. I mean, it doesn't discredit the whole movie, and the french plantation scene is kinda cool, but it goes on and on forever. It's like half of the movie's original running time, for crying out loud! I'm glad I saw the Redux version once, but I doubt I'll ever want to watch it again, the original is infinitely more watchable.

It's such a dense, uncompromising movie. So many scenes just punch you in the gut
