For real though, what has challenged the mouse other than a trackpads? I mean, I loooooove Apple trackpads, but they're only really great for:

a) laptops
--b) Apple laptops

The microsoft and new logitech ones are pretty butt ugly (although the new blu beam one from microsoft looks fine). the mouse I use is from a few years back and has everything I need: side buttons and a vertical only scroll wheel.

The mouse I use at my home PC still has the ball in it, lol. I remember the first time I saw a click wheel I was like WTFFF.

I don't understand why shipping a billion of something is such a big deal though. I'm sure there have been a billion TV remote controls shipped, or a billion telephones, or a billion hair scrunchies.
