I was skeptical at first, but it's really just another way to keep in touch with people/subjects. And just like any blogging medium, it can be used well or used poorly.

So it's been a couple of years that many of you have been using twitter, and I was wondering how you guys(and girls) use it? When it first started I couldn't find a viable use for myself but something about it has to be useful now. Right?

Do any of you have more than one account? Maybe a personal one and a troll one?

I figured I'd bump this thread since it has all EB's accounts in it.

I couldn't really figure out a use for it either. It seemed like a messy version of facebook for tiny blurbs and no real conversation. *shrug* I don't get it so I went back to Facebook.

I use it a lot, but now mostly to talk about baseball since I'm an "official fantasy baseball expert" now. I've thought about split accounts because of that. I just find it easier than talking to real people on Facebook.

I think you're looking at it the wrong way. There is an overabundance of bullshit, true, but you can control who you follow, so getting rid of that shit is just a matter of clicking Unfollow. And after you sign up and follow people, your main page hides direct @name responses, reducing the noise::substance (I know, I know) ratio drastically. I don't think it's really intended that you read individual feeds - there's no internal function to search for stuff on that level, it's difficult/impossible to get to old posts and there's no way to hide the crap - but rather use it as a feed aggregate.

I like Twitter a lot but I basically can't use it during my working day or I get all the NBA games spoiled for me (US night games are my morning) Never fails.

I have no fucking idea but some asshole will ALWAYS just post either a final score or a result, with a bunch of exclamation marks and no commentary other than maybe a 'YESSS'. Great that you enjoyed it dude, but did you really have to ruin it for everyone else?

At the same time, it is great fun to be on twitter during say, the finals, game 7, watching live. I don't have anyone around here that likes NBA, so it's great to be able to post shit and get feedback and see what is on everyone's mind. But the problem is that you really need a dedicated account for that or you drive everyone else crazy. I have basically 3 topics that I post on that people seem to be interested in: comics, NBA, and Japan. What the Venn diagram looks like there, I have no idea, but it seems unlikely that many are interested in all 3.

Twitter gives me a place to spam about my blog(s) and talk about super-nerdy stuff to an audience that is generally apathetic, rather than annoying people on my Facebook with it.

Also, I feel like the Facebook environment encourages a general lack of sophistication or relevance in wall postings, and my tweeting is hopelessly specific. $:-\$

Not a bad practice honestly. Especially if you're looking for jobs and such. Many HR departments now do social network screenings. I try to keep my Twitter stuff PG since I'm not protected. My FB is locked down, though.
