Independent sources rarely get a good amount of time with early builds, exclusive screenshots, etc. It just seems that the videogame industry is moving forward with one PR platform to divulge media and coverage to the masses with total bias.

Possible, yeah. At least places like Rock Paper Shotgun and so on exist, even if their preview coverage is mostly non-existant.

I haven't bought an EGM for nearly 10 years and I can't even remember the last time I read one (though I'm sure I had an online subscription some years ago - never really looked at it) it's still kind of sad seeing something like this finally go away for good. I was there at the beginning of EGM - like the very beginning, issue #1 - and I really enjoyed the mag during those ancient pre-internet caveman days. I think I still have issue #2 laying around here somewhere....the Wizards and Warriors one with Fabio on the cover.....oh well. All things must end I suppose. I guess I'll miss the podcasts the most but then again I kind of lost interest in them over the past year or so.

This is the best news I've heard in awhile. I can't feel sorry for people losing their jobs when they did such a bad one for so long. I originaly started reading egm when they were packing in preview dvds and it was nice being exposed to new stuff I wouldnt have looked at on my own. But after a few issues the template "journalism" (lol) they used for interviews/previews/reviews/toptenlists! became tired. You want an example of a good mag, read Edge. Fuck most UK game mags are competent. They almost make me believe in "games journalism". Egm felt amateurish and it never improved.

I remember e3 2004 issue and onwards had dvds packaged. It got discontinued later that year.
And yes, I'm glad a shit magazine got canned. It sucks that Barnes and Nobel doesn't carry Edge anymore.

We already knew this, but Jesus Christ are you ever an idiot. Not only did EGM close down, but so did 1up and all of its video/audio content. Over 30 good people lost their jobs during the worst economic crisis in years. EGM might not be the best (although it's still light years better than it was during my adolescence), but the 1up network consistently created much better content than any of the other major gaming sites like Gamespot and IGN.

And is your life really that sad and pathetic that the closure of a company and the loss of dozens of jobs is the "best news you've heard in a while?" What are you, 12? Go masturbate to the upcoming December NPDs or something.

I originaly started playing Nintendo when they were actually making a variety of games and it was nice being exposed to new stuff I wouldnt have looked at on my own. But after a few consoles the template "gaming" (lol) they used for Zelda/Mario/Metroid/Kirby became tired. You want an example of a good game, buy 360. Fuck most non-Nintendo consoles are competent. They almost make me believe in "games". Nintendo felt amateurish and it never improved.
