-2 week break for basically zero plot progression
I'd say we definitely have plot progression. Daniel was going to blow up a "hydrogen bomb" (which we know of course is Jughead) so Jack and Kate will bring it up and use Dan's Journal for clues or help. Dharma is now gone to shit and Chang is evacuating the island.
This is one of the episodes that I would have been perfectly okay with the pacing if I were watching the entire season all at once, so I guess that isn't really a valid complaint. That's what I meant about them still finishing strong, because they're clearly setting up for the finale now.
Also, re: the comic-con video
The ARGs arent meant to be canon, they are more promotional than canon. Granted, some facts are true (ie. the Christianne finding the wreckage, but no mention of Sam), but the ARGs are meant to give an insight about what the season is about.
Yeah, unfortunately I didn't see them mention that in the LOSTpedia interview until after last night. I was just a little annoyed that Faraday gave up on convincing Chang after like 30 seconds of babbling nonsense.
One more:
-Contrived "variable" bullshit that came out of absolutely nowhere just so we could get...
This is called irony. Dan thought he was a variable when his sudden realization came when he was shot and said "you knew this was to happen" - he was a Constant. Eloise believes in predetermined fate, Daniel believes in free will. Eloise won - "I sacrificed my son"
But this is what bugs me. Here we have him saying, "Whatever happened, happened" for the past 13 episodes, and then out of the blue he has some radical epiphany that completely changes his outlook on time travel? This guy is supposed to be a super genius, yet even as his own theory on the rules are being proven (like him telling Charlotte to gtfo) he decides to go shoot up the Others' camp on some bullshit whim?
Seems cheap, but whatever.
Still better than Heroes
