fuck, and this isn't even including the tzatziki you put on a Gyro, or even worse, the sugary "donair sauce" that they serve in canada.

I'm a little confused I think what you guys refer to as "Kebab" is what we call "Shawerma"
Because this is what you get if you order "Kebab" in the ME:
(right beef, left chicken)
Don't know who's right though, might as well ask someone Turkish.
I don't know what the Doner part means but I'm guessing they call it a kabob because some people think it's a generic word for ME foods.  Places that sell shawermas are really popular in euroland though for some reason.  I've only seen one of those vertical spits for shawermas once in the US.

We do indeed rock at kebabs:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Kebabs#Scandinavia

    * Kebabpizza - Kebabpizza is a standard pizza with tomato sauce and cheese, with the addition of döner kebab meat. A sour cream based dressing is usually put on top (sometimes with garlic and/or chili or a milder variety). Other ingredients can be fresh tomatoes and/or salad, mushrooms or almost any other standard pizza toppings.
    * Kebab roll - A kebab roll is a rolled kebab, made of a flat bread (dürüm), döner kebab meat, salad, tomatoes, sour cream dressing and then rolled. It goes under the name "kebabrulle" (Sweden), "rullekebab" (Norway, Denmark) "dürüm" (Denmark) and "rullakebab" (Finland) respectively.

I had a kebab roll today, absolutely delicious :drool best food there is.

Although I went up to stockholm last summer and man they suck at making kebab, they don't see anything wrong with pouring tomato sauce on it. :'( It's like kebab murder.

Lately Nipponbashi has a few stands out selling chicken roasted on those spits. That would be chicken shawerma? I'm happy that the chicken is all recognizable carcasses, but half the time they are slicing into before it's been well-and-truly cooked. Then they put thousand island dressing on it and put it in a pita.

Pretty sure someone is going overboard on the "we'll localize it for Japan" effort.

I'm actually curious about Japan in respect to foodstuffs... can you get high quality Italian/Indian/Mexican/etc food in the big cities like you can in America? Do they put a Japanese spin on everything?

You are forgetting pizza. It is nearly impossible to find decent pizza, at least in Osaka.

We call these "gyros". I was alawys under the impression that kebab = cubes of grilled meat, sometimes veggies, on a skewer.

The Donair is a bit different from the gyro.  Instead of tzatziki, Donair's are usually slathered with a sugary white sauce, more akin to liquified frosting then yogurt.  Its also usually limited to tomatoes and onions as its veggie toppings.  Needless to say, getting a gyro in Queens is a much better lunch then a Donair in Halifax.  Then again, just about all the food in Halifax is garbage.

Gyros is how the Greeks call it.

Kebab is how the Turks call it.

It's pretty much the same.

The Ottoman empire occupied Greece territory for hundreds of years. You decide who is right.  :-*

Just how both the Greeks and Turks have the same kind of national drink Ouzo/Raki.

Raki may taste like Ouzo but it is actually more akin to drinking kerosene.  Worst hangover of my life was after having shared a whole bottle of Raki with two friends and then trying to go to the National Museum in Istanbul the next day.  My one buddy just laid in the middle of a huge pile of Greek marble the entire day near the museum......

That shit can kill you.

Aren't Donners supposed to be topped with garlic sauce?

are Donner's the same thing as Donair's?  The Donair's in Halifax at least, are served with 'Donair sauce' which is sugary more then anything.
