Oh shit, Amazon actually shipped out one of the controllers I ordered!

Went to Best Buy during my lunch break and they had SFIV up as a 360 demo instead of the usual Rock Band. So I got in line, beat a bunch of little kids' asses, and left the store feeling like a real man.
I was surprised to see a decent amount of people standing around trying to watch what was going on. Made me pine for the days of huddling around and waiting for a fight in an arcade.
Yeah, I popped into EB to return the fucked-up PS3 fight pad I got the other day, and a bunch of guys were crammed in the store, huddling around the demo kiosk. Also lucked out and got another fight pad, which seems to work fine!
Fuck this game in the ass.
With Ken, I can get two perfects off the bat, and typically one or two ultra finishes before everything goes to hell. The game starts registering regular flaming dragon punches...
Fuck this. I just want to unlock Gouken.
I'm telling you, follow what I said above. Forget using your favorite character, forget any real tactics-- just pick Ryu and fireball, fireball, FIREBALL, EX fireball, super fireball.
Fuck this game in the ass.

I am having the exact same problem using the Saturn pad. It keeps registering EX Shoryukens instead of the Ultra.
Someone on GAF said that Capcom deliberately loosened and streamlined the command inputs to make them easier to pull off on shitty d-pads. Is there any truth to that?
Yes, apparently so. You can thank Dimps for that it seems.
Drohne destroyed me. I suck. :'(
I like C. Viper, but I fucking hate her ultra move. That shit has absolutely no range at all and she's completely vulnerable after it misses.
Also, Vega is an annoying motherfucker. I don't know how to fight him. I can't even block some of his attacks.
Most, if not all characters' ultras make them completely vulnerable if you miss with it. One of the things I notice new players do all the time is get set to do an ultra when the bar fills up. I think it's almost instinct...don't do it unless it's safe! If you don't do it all, chances are the other guy you're fighting will fuck up because he thinks that's what you're trying to do, too!
Viper's ultra might be good after a knock up? It also works well close up. And use that DP move that makes her hit the ground; people don't expect it! There's a way to combo it into her kick special, but I can't remember if that's EX only or not.
I don't use Viper, but Vega is definitely a character who got gimped to hell and totally sucks now. He should be a lot easier to beat compared to previous games. He's really, REALLY easy to knock out of his air attacks now, and I find that focus attacks really fuck up his ground game when you fight someone who tends to just sit on the ground and slide/roll attack/stab at you over and over again. He's a breeze to beat with Cammy especially.
Has Zangief been super gimped? I can't seem to combo his jumping knee into his SPD or his body slam into it. I mean on the plus side he can focus attack -> those, but my bread & butter Zangief SPD lead ins were jumping attacks
'Gief is one of the best characters in the game, bar none. He wasn't gimped...they made him better than ever. He may have lost some old stuff, but he fucking rocks. Coming back to Cammy again though, I notice that she is so fast that I'm able to cannon spike him 99% of the time he is close and doing his SPD animation. And her cannon drill goes right under his lariat.
btw, Gouken is better than I first thought. Only awful thing about him is his terrible hurricane kick move.
It has its uses. It can be used like an anti-air, and since he sticks his foot out before he does it, it's easy to catch someone off guard with it since the reach is a little longer (and on the other side of the coin, easy to get hit out of it). I love his counter move. LOVE IT.
The online community on PS3 is pretty ehhhhh. I tried playing some ranked matches with Zangief and all I fought were shotos EVERY TIME. Most of them have no idea what to do against a big russian walk up to them and throwing their ass over and over, lol.
Ken seems kinda worse than Ryu. I kept having people do their Ken ultras which set them straight to the sky when they missed/was blocked which gave me a free ultra/super/ex SPD when they landed.
What you are describing is the online community in any 2D fighter on any system.

Did you try modifying your custom search to find people with the same skill level as you or higher? Not sure if that helps or not.
On PS3, I find that I can NEVER find matches if I do quick or custom. I have to create my own. This is the only PS3 fighter I have where I have this problem.
how do you play the same person more than once? It kept dumping me back to the search for quick match/custom game menu after each fight.
Player matches let you fight again...
