Alcohol, like most things, is fine in moderation.

Drink to catch a buzz, not to get obliterated and you'll be fine. There are going to be times when you drink too much and suffer from terrible hangovers, but they should be the exception and not the rule. If you are blacking out every time you drink, you're doing it wrong.

To everyone who really doesn't understand why people drink~

Instead of blindly judging people's motives/character, maybe you should try something frilly like a margarita, or a daiquiri, or anything which tastes alright to you...just stop at two.

Or don't. No one fucking cares. Just try to be less condescending while you're talking out of your ass about it.

Jin,

Alcohol being illegal is a pretty good excuse for not having tried it.  :P

Just try not to speak with much authority on the subject because it rings a bit hollow.

I don't apologize for sounding condescending or judgmental

It's probably for the best you don't drink or anything. The ensuing pic thread would probably get the site investigated for kiddie porn or something, and no one really wants that.

Life sucks, alcohol makes you feel better.

Proof:

Last night, I drank a shitload and was drunk off my ass. Instead of trying to drown myself in a dorm toilet because I'm getting kicked out of school, I had a fucking awesome night, watched a movie, flirted with women, and fell asleep like a rock.

Now I feel like shit again. Good thing I got beer in the cooler.

Well, this thread certainly got a whole lot more cold-blooded since I last came in.

Some people like alcohol, some people abuse alcohol, and some people just don't prefer it.  The first and last groups of people are perfectly acceptable.

There's a difference between binge drinking and enjoying the finer things in life, which is something the original poster fails to recognize.

Some people here look like they'd rather reenact prohibition. :lol

Not at all. I think Bildi was right in that I probably should have been more specific with my original issue. I can understand why people would be into the 'fine alcohol'. Also, I don't give a flying fuck what other people do. It's their lives, they can do what they want (besides, we need some form of population control anyhow).

Oh and re: the social ineptness. Man, I WISH. If I was socially inept, there would be no problems. I wouldn't have to be going to all these goddamn clubs, bars and parties and I would still probably have most of my hearing. But alas..  :pimp  :(

I haven't either, but I do like to have a drink from time to time.  I used to just drink vodka, but now I've scaled it back to just spiced rum.  But I do quite enjoy it.

I think part of the allure of alcohol is forgetting.  And I like it for that.  Especially if you have some stuff to forget.

God I love wine with a nice dinner. Bottles will just mysteriously be emptied.

Otherwise I decided to stop drinking, because I can't stop when I should. I also get stomach aches after as little as two glasses.
I risk the discomfort for a nice dinner experience though.

During my teenage and early college years, I'd get drunk as often as I could.  Had nothing to do with peer pressure really but the social environment definitely improved my drunken experiences.

Got into bodybuilding and the alcohol consumption dropped down to almost zero.  Now even a couple of beers gives me a decent buzz.  I still have a bottle of black label that I sip on every once in a while.

Those who feel above alcohol need to unlodge the sticks from their asses ASAP.  Nobody's buying your faux superiority.  Maybe if a couple of you had a beer now and then, you might get to see a woman's vagina.

I drink when I am bored socially. It makes the people around me entertaining better though I wait first to see if they'll get drunk first. Otherwise as a home brewer it's getting *almost* to a stage where I would make beer even if there wasn't any alcohol in it.

Quote
Gins are similar to Vodkas because the basis of both are grain neutral spirits.  Gin, however, has botanicals added to it to give it a subtle flavor of juniper that goes great with tonic and lime creating a Gin and Tonic, maybe the most popular drink made with gin. The second most popular, the gin martini starts with a good gin, a splash of vermouth, and a generous olive.  From the best to the simplest gins each one has a following.  Beefeater and Tanqueray Gin have held the top spots of premium gin for years.

Tanqueray is awful, just awful.  It's like drinking Pine-Sol.  I once had just a horrible night from the stuff.  Only time I've ever truly blacked out.

When I was a common drinker, I'd always prefer to drink whiskey.  Especially this stuff, since it was pretty readily available to a high school sophomore:

It's not the alcohol that's good for you, it's the tannin in the grape stem.  I'd assume that grape juice has the same benefits.

Because it's fun to drink with your friends and hang out?

It loosens you up when you go out, and it just gives you that overall buzz that is mostly enjoyable. I never take it too far, and I smoke weed from time to time but still I don't see the point in getting so fucking drunk that you can't remember the night before.

On some occasions ( birthdays etc ) I drink alot, but I never get hung over, so that's cool.

Anyway what a dumb question

I never went through the binge drinking phase and have never vomitted or passed out from alcohol consumption, or forgotten what happened.

I drink because it loosens you up, gives you a nice buzz and can make a night out (or in!) much more enjoyable. I never take it too far and I have never understood why some people like to get so wasted that they can barely walk/string a coherent sentence together. I hate the feeling of not being in control of my actions.

As for the taste, I do enjoy the taste of some alcohol too. I'm not a fan of beer at all, but I really love wine as well as some spirits (noteably, rum and some whiskeys). I also like vodka with mixers. They're definitely acquired tastes though!
