Not even close.  This could have been a huge gears style hit had the game been good.

What's up with ridic posts like this?

It's one of the best games of this gen.  Both the campaign and multi-player (especially the MP) are incredible.

KZ2 sales are good, when viewed in the context of KZ2 being an average FPS in a market glutted with FPS and exclusive to a tanking system.

Have you even played the game?  It's anything but average.

I'm quickly realizing that Evilbore is like a more literate version of OA.

or maybe that you aren't in touch with reality

you know, the reality where killzone 2 was rejected by gamers, and gow2 outsold it 10:1

- High sales don't equal quality.

- It was hardly rejected by gamers.  It sold 323k in about 36 hours of tracking (released on February 27th)

- The controls are great now.  They patched the "controller lag" issue a while ago.

To say that the game sucks or is just "average" is ridiculous.

It's obvious 99% of you who say that already made up your minds on the game before you even played it.  The multi-player is awesome and campaign was balls-to-the-walls action.

Anyway, I expected better from this place for some odd reason.

To say that the game sucks or is just "average" is ridiculous.

why though?

it's simply another standard single player experience with outstanding graphics.

FPS games with better campaigns and SP are out there. Maybe if a gamer has not played any fps on any non-sony platform, then i can understand the awe.

Feel free to name better shooters this gen.

i throw back to you the "have you played it?" because the controller lag is still there post patch, not as pronounced but it is still present.
[/quote]

Mountain out of a mole hill.  Gamasutra actually did some tests on this last year and every single game has "controller lag".  It's a complete non-issue now in regards to Killzone 2.  Even the kids on the official forums stopped bitching about it, when it used to fill the entire front page.

Out of that bunch, I'd say only Half-Life 2 (+episodes) is better than Killzone 2.

I actually thought Killzone 2 would be an adventure fps game like HL(2)

Crysis - :lol How's the multi-player?  Have you even played the KZ2 multi-player for more than an hour or something?  What's your PSN ID?  Let me look that shit up.
Crysis Warhead - See above.  I'm sure the campaign is comparable, if not better, but the multi-player is not even in the same league.
STALKER - See above.
STALKER Clear Sky - See above.
COD2 - :lol
COD3 - :lol :lol
COD4 - Killzone 2's campaign is DEFINITELY better.  Multi-player components are about on-par, in my opinion.
COD5 - :lol
Bad Company - Campaign was terrible.  Multi-player is great, but not as good as KZ2's.
Battlefield 2 - When did this come out?  Like 7 years ago?
Half Life 2 - See above.  This is a 2004 game, isn't it? What are you doing, bro?
HL2 Ep 2 - Campaign probably better, sure, but not comparable to KZ2 as a whole.
Frontline - :lol :lol

i am sure there are more. - Hundreds more, definitely.

It's a NON-ISSUE now.  They patched it.  Give it a rest.  If the insane kids on the official forums that blow everything out of proportion aren't talking about it anymore, it's not an issue.

Nailed it, save for the multi-player of course.  Only 2 games on his list are up to par, Half-life 2 episodes + COD4's multi-player.  Combine those 2 games and you have a Killzone 2 killer.

this may be because the 360 pad is totally unusable for fighting games -- ds3 sux too, but you can kind of get by with it. people are going nuts for 360 sticks here too, sold my shit old doa stick for A HUNDRED AND TEN DOLLARS :/

Yeah, I was only talking about the campaign. It's really hard to trump Half-Life's sp.

Haven't played much KZ2 mp since I didn't have much time to do so. Still have to finish the epic sp first.

dcharlie, just fucking can it about KZ2 already. Then: Blah blah the demo was nothing special, but maybe it would be better on a higher difficulty. Now: Blah blah, the game is nothing special, it plays like COD, granted that I'm playing on normal even after whining a ton about that difficulty!* But no, you're totally not trying to distort reality to reflect the myth at all.  :wtf

* Never mind the fact that the enemy behavior and weapons handling is so fundamentally different from COD that it could impossible be like COD even on normal. Although I will admit that there is some entertainment value in that you then, with your proven inability to distinguish one game from another despite their fundamental differences, have the fucking audacity to shit out the "maybe if you haven't played that many shooters" argument. Good one.

The difference then being that I have so far, in spite of obvious hyperbole, not posted anything that is even remotely as idiotic as "like COD." You couldn't even get your standard asslick brigade to give you a congratulatory rimjob for that argument because it's just too shit. Fall back on your chosen (previously so disliked) difficulty setting, it doesn't actually make the argument any less shit, though, because of how fundamentally different the two games are when it comes to, as you say, gameplay.

I have seen a lot of ads for the game, but they haven't been terribly good. I think it's pretty hard to market well. Alma may mean something to those who played the first game, but the rest, it's a shooter with some girl in a red dress.

If it makes you feel any better, MK vs DC didn't sell much worse than this in its opening month, and while I expect SFIV to pass its totals, I don't think it's going to be by very much.  It's going to have to almost double up on both platforms to pass MK vs DC's LTD.

Er, didn't MK vs. DC do something like 144k in it's first month on the PS3 in November?  I'm using this site as my reference.

Unless I'm reading wrong, that site just says LBP finished fourth amongst PS3 software with 141k.  It doesn't say anything about MK vs DC's numbers except to say it's >141k.  Double up is probably a bit strong of wording on my part though.  The two games are at about 1.25m combined.  SFIV is almost certain to pass that, but given how quickly the legs fall out from under HD games this gen, I wouldn't hope for much past that.

Still, a very big success for Capcom.  It's definitely more than I was expecting.

Fair enough.  I just don't remember MK vs. DC doing 800k in it's first month.

how quickly are games prices dropping in the US?

I'd have thought in the current climate $50-60 games are a bit of a stretch?

Strangely in Japan, a lot of the games prices are going up. SF4 , RE5, star ocean, sony/MS first party etc... all priced up.

Also, where is Halo Wars?

Game prices drop fairly slowly, actually.  You can usually get sales a few weeks after release, but a permanent price drop might take several months.  Also, Halo Wars came out in March.

and what's the other 10%? half-life 2 and what? crysis' single-player maybe?

what's your psn id?  i want to see your killzone 2 multi-player stats.

people seem to forget that the campaign is like 6 or 7 hours but the multi-player lasts hundreds.  it's that good.  the campaign is just a fraction of the playtime one would have with this game, unless you're anti-social and don't like MP games.  i just got done playing for like 2 hours, and i put 2 hours yesterday, and the day before, and the before that too.  half of OA plays this game every night.

anyway, we all know you made your mind up on this game before even playing it.

you have such contempt for the playstation brand that you probably took a big sloppy shit on the disc before you inserted it into your ps3.  there's a reason why i gave you the nickname xfag emperor.

As for the bu bu bu only two days,it will be back in March...they never come back, especially in the US

at least i'll remember it... i don't even remember what happened at the end of halo 2... like space ships or some shit?

Just a couple of days ago,

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/sony-2009-line-up-is-relentless-aaa

"We feel that Killzone 2 is a tremendous exclusive. It's an exclamation point that demonstrates the distance between the PS3 and other systems. The game is 40GB and could not be done on anything else," he said, which will probably go down well with the 360 fundamentalists.

"It will move people from the sidelines, and from what we've seen from blogs, will push 360 owners to try out the PS3. I think it's going to be a major launch for us and this historical PlayStation brand,"

You're just a shrill distinguished mentally-challenged fellow and you manage to be more caustic than him on the subject of KZ2.

Blah blah blah. I'm not the one pushing an argument that is plain fucking wrong. It's not exactly surprising that dcharlie would be "disappointed" in the game (what with having deliberately nerfed the whole thing despite knowing better), but likening it to COD in terms of gameplay is pushing the whole thing into absurdity. Other than, uh, enemy behavior, weapons handling and most other aspects of combat, it's absolutely like COD. I mean, there are enemies, guns and it's a warzone. COD for sure.  :wtf

Oh, and you'd think the guy who admits that he might have played the game on the wrong difficulty would be smart enough to refrain from making flat statements like "it's simply another standard single player experience," but hey.

It is, i'll keep saying it and you'll keep pissing your pants over it.
Enemy behaviour, as i've pointed out several times ON NORMAL is IDENTICAL to COD (camp and suicide) which i have conceded time and time again is maybe not the way to play the game.

the argument isn't plain wrong, you (like all the other Sfags) have the same issue as always: Every big name PS3 game has to be the best game ever, lest you are a troll.

I'm not the only one on EB that thinks the game is a standard shooter there's been at least 4 other people who feel the same. i'm not even saying it's out and out shite (though some parts are), just that the whole thing on my play through feels like COD.

But for you panty wetting cock masters it's like i've dug up all your dead relatives and spunked in their eye sockets.

I'm sorry i wasn't turned on by Kz2 like GG expected me to as an xfag....

It's not going anywhere really, but it doesn't have to. I mean, you're wrong about the COD shit, and you're sticking to your guns. Good for you, I suppose? :wtf  Even on normal, enemies show more tactical abilities and variety than COD grunts. You may manage to shoot your way through them easy, but it's not COD enemies you are fighting.

But hey, even if we then pretend that on normal, enemies suddenly change behavior model from tactics to zombie on fire action, if you're conceding that higher difficulty might change the experience, then where do you get off arguing that it's just that standard FPS and that everyone else (read: sfags, right?) are wrong? It's weird enough that you'd even pick that difficulty after your bitching about it earlier, but I guess as long as it can produce a rant on "sfags," you have gotten your value out of it. I guess that's sort of a game too.

And for the record, throughout playing KZ2 I kept wishing it was on 360 simply because I had a broken PS3 and a working 360. So do fuck off with the console warrior shit.

There are instances of it, absolutely. But there is a fucking chasm between that and claiming that it's a gamewide deal. COD enemies barely ever bunker down, unless there is a designated bunker for them to do so in. Enemies in KZ2 are plenty more dynamic than that, moving from cover positions and reacting to the level of suppression. I feel that you're either attributing some qualities to COD that the series hasn't earned, or you're selling KZ2 short. I will concede that the decreased difficulty would probably alter how much it affects you or how much you have to utilize cover, but the behavior is still there. So hey, maybe it is standard FPS to you, but I don't see how you can claim that this is some general truth about the game and that the sfags are horrible fanboys for praising the game.

And if I got paid by the post for a Killzone 2 assignment, I'd be on a cushy vacation right now.  :P

edit: If the World at War demo is anything like the full game, then you're even crazier than I had thought. The game has fucking banzai enemies!  :lol

I have yet to play a COD game in which the enemy reacts to the level of suppression, and moves naturally from one point of cover to the next based on threat level and your position. If 3 and 5 have that, then hey, I'll have to check them out. But COD 5 has banzai enemies, what in the hell is wrong with this developer? On the upside, the flamethrower was even more disturbing than the one in KZ2.

By the way, we've had this problem before, so to clarify. When I say "bunker," I mean using any point of cover wisely. Not hiding in a fortified position (which they also do from time to time, and those were absolutely the most boring points of the game).

Above the norm, but not "making people buy x console" status. You know, like Gears of War or RE5

The cylinders are around, but they aren't as blatantly placed. I'd accidentally ignite them in later levels, which made for fun spectacles but not exactly tactical advantages.

As for the level design, I was moderately disappointed in the second section (visari square being made all the worse from Guerrilla's weird decision to put that unfortunate line of VA in the game, something to the effect of "are we done yet?"), but it went upwards from there on, with the peak of the whole game being the Suljeva and spaceship skirmishes. I guess the fighting leading up to the palace was pretty good, but I'm old enough where 6 hours of nothing but combat is more than enough to give me shooter fatigue. I need an RTS setting to deal with more explosions than that.

I don't think any one game is going to sell a system that is significantly more expensive than competing systems. Well, maybe Halo or an exclusive GTA could. But a sequel to a less than awesome game?
