Listening to Cee Lo's album

So far it's a mixture of some really great songs and others that sound like standard attempts to make a vintage sounding pop song - alright to good, but kinda forgettable. Production wise I think Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings is more consistent on that front.

but damn, when the songs rock they really rock

Yeah, I found a copy of that album for $3 at a used bookstore in middle-of-nowhere bumblefuck Maryland. Really surprised as to how well it held up, very ahead of its time... IIRC it was the first album built entirely from samples.

I love the hell out of that Best Coast album. I find her hopeless and pathetic longing for love and attention sort of endearing, even if it is absolutely calculated -- it's exactly the sort of thing hopeless and pathetic nerds construct wish fulfillment fantasies from, and are powerless to resist swooning over. I fell for it, and can live with that, but only because she also knows how to write pretty good surf pop tunes to go along with it.

If it wasn't soaked in reverb, it would probably sound nearly indistinguishable from a Taylor Swift track. That's the worst song on the album, though.

best coast knows actually who's she's catering too and doesn't try to sell her self as being anything more than what she is, so she's okay in my books.

it was a great summer album to have on repeat.

I didn't even know what this was and then I looked it up and heard "Sun Was High (So Was I)". Listening to the whole album now.

Best Coast is best

Same. The production is consistently outrageous - I hate to say it, but the guy is practically on an entirely different level at this point - and nearly every track has a hook worth selling your soul for. Shit is the real deal.

I'm not really contradicting myself – it can] be a fun album, but I just got insanely tired with that sort of songwriting this summer, what with the Best Coast album and the Wavves one as well. It's welcome to me for a few weeks but that's about it.

from me. Fucking impossible to find Boss fans younger than 40-50 in this area, so it's nice to know there are young people who also respect how incredible he his. I got to see him live on his Working On A Dream tour and that shit was unreal. Did a guitar duo with Tom Morello on Ghost of Old Tom Joad. Amazing.

I've been listening to Sade's new album a lot lately. I really like it but I don't think hard beats go well with Sade's voice. She sounds best with light strings and piano, and preferably horns. Heavy drums do not fit Sade at all. Modern music trends dot not fit Sade.

Still, this year is the best year in a while for rnb/soul. You got Erykah Badu, new Usher, Janelle Monae, Leela James, The Foreign Connection, Sade, a decent Rihanna album, Raheem DeVaughn's fantastic album. As the year ends, hopefully Miguel's new album can be a great addition.

Overall, between this, the new Kanye and Nas/Damian Marley...good year for black music.

I agree, but its suck in a lame middle ground that doesn't really do anything well.

I tried to listen to the new Smashing Pumpkins stuff and yuck.

Its like Corgan is trying to make every song a #1 hit and fails every time.
