listen listened to that video; pretty good song

Will download later today/tonight. Some of the impressions on GAF so far seem less about actually liking the music and more about not being That Guy who doesn't "understand" a Radiohead album

I'd be shocked if BN's review doesn't boil down to "not my favorite Radiohead album but sounds like a grower. There's nothing catchy and it's short but maybe that's the intellectual point of it, ya know?"

There's nothing intellectual about it either. Its extremely plain and uninspired. There's no emotion to his voice in any of the songs. As much as I didn't like In Rainbows, "All I Need" is a fantastic song.

Codex and Give Up the Ghost offer a break from the rest of the album, so they're decent. But the other 6 songs are totally forgettable to me.

Well, I like it.

I don't think Thom is actually bored here... it's a stylistic choice. This is the closest they've gotten to the kind of music he seems most into.

I find it hilarious when people don't like an album and call it a grower to save themselves from saying what they really think. 90% of the time, the album in question isn't anywhere near as complex as something that needs to grow on you should be.

Embryonic was a grower.

This album is just boring.

i like it so far, though i'm not in love with it after my first listen like in rainbows.

some tracks are downright amazing, with a few having a bit of what i loved in life in a glasshouse mixed with a direction i wanted radiohead to have taken since kid a.

I was looking forward to it because I know Radiohead has a great album in them, but they have to get over this Eraser-like bullshit. Its played out. Again, I wasn't crazy about In Rainbows but I absolutely love All I Need. It was an incredibly well structured and well performed piece. So I know Radiohead CAN do it, they're just not.

I just feel like people are afraid to really express their lukewarm feelings about it by calling it a grower. The last 6 months have been incredible for music and this just really doesn't stack up at all.

anyhow, my expectations still get the best of me when listening to Fugazi's The Arguement. it still freaks me out that it's so fucking reserved nearly a decade later. i know their is a great album there, but i keep expecting tracks like Turnover, Do You Like Me and Public Witness Program.

In no way do I want them to "sell out" (I fucking hate that term) but they need to bring themselves down from whatever cloud their on and get back to writing good, functional songs.

OK Computer was an incredibly simplistic album, which isn't a bad thing at all. KISS applies to music as well where if you have a few good ideas for a song, a bridge, a lyric, etc, you allow that part to shine through instead of mashing it together in some tripe that got boring albums ago. Hail to the Thief was great. It wasn't amazing, but it was a great album.

Look at Where I End and You Begin. Its such a creative song that has so many interesting layers, but its a pretty simple song in terms of structure.

That's the Radiohead I want back. This one, I can do without.

And I talk to my friend about Smashing Pumpkins all the time, and I just don't understand what's keeping Billy Corgan from writing another 1979 or another Today or hell, even another Stand Inside Your Love. All his new stuff is incredibly self-masturbatory and its boring.

I think I've just moved on from Radiohead. I've become exposed to so many new artists that I've fallen in love with that its hard to see Radiohead as some sort of genius.

Mojo: I think Amnesiac receives a lot of illegitimate hate. I think Amnesiac is the best homework album ever. In college, I'd throw on Amnesiac and go at it like a zombie. It's also a beautiful album to fall asleep to, with eyes closed.

Hail to the Thief is average, I agree.

But In Rainbows was a great album. I don't see the problem with it.

Yeah there's nothing wrong with Amnesiac but I see it more as Kid A part 2 rather than a new album. I actually like Hail much more than In Rainbows. Maybe I was just less of a Radiohead fan at that point though, who knows.

Ah well, that's one more album to scratch off my list.

From my perspective, In Rainbows is pretty much what you're asking for mojo. I guess there are too few guitar solos and Thom doesn't sing exactly the same way he used to?

Radiohead is not the same band they used to be... they don't want to be. They might be able to churn out the same stuff you loved over and over but it wouldn't be new anymore, and they probably wouldn't enjoy it (or even be a band anymore). You can still listen to their old albums if that's all you want to hear from them.

By the way I listened to this in the car while driving around just now... it definitely seems like an album that needs either a lot of volume or a quiet environment to get much out of some of the songs (mostly the first half), because the details are lost.

Yeah, In Rainbows is a start, but overall, I didn't think it was a strong enough album to like. And I'm not asking for them to churn out something like OK Computer again, but its not like they're treading new ground with this album.

And it hasn't been out for 2 hours, I've listened to it 4 times already.

Anyways, I do believe I'm done with Radiohead. On to bigger and better.

Lotus Flower+Codex is such a killer back to back. Two of my favorite songs of the year so far.

Still digesting the album but I think it's pretty good. The last four tracks are getting the most attention, but I also really dig the first two. Bloom has a nice 70s jazz vibe to it

I've listened to it a couple times. It's not bad -- I really like the somber tone and could see myself liking it much more with some more time -- but I don't get the heaps and heaps of praise pitchforked (teehee) its way. I think it's just cuz Radiohead failed to win 2K11 and Tomboy will probably suck and the blogiverse needed a champion. And the faint possibility that I don't smoke enough weed for even faux-dubstep.

Might as well check it out because it's not like people are gonna stop talking about it any time soon.
