Saw three indie bands tonight live. Not bad. Saw Sleeper Agent, Manchester Orchestra and Cage The Elephant. I liked Cage The Elephant the most. They were really animated live, and their guitars and drums are pretty sweet. Suggest seeing them if they're ever your way.

DOOM has so much stuff it's hard to determine where to start sometimes. I'd start with Mm..Food. It's not his best album but it's pretty accessible compared to some others

Lots of folks don't like DOOM's style, from his monotone flow to subject matter. But his fans will swear by him quite passionately; he's my second favorite (living) rapper of all time. His shit is infinitely dope due to some of his more dense rhymes and similes; years after discovering him I still wound up "getting" various punchlines or references. He's also a pretty damn good producer. Most of his beats are simple loops but his samples are awesome and enhance his free associative, cartoonish style.

I'd imagine most fans will argue Madvillain (his collabo with Madlib) is his best album

Pitchfork is slobbering over the new Bon Iver... can't say I completely agree. More like a really solid 8.5 to me than a 9.5... lots of good tracks (about 7 out of 10 on the album I personally think) but I would have liked it to be longer and maybe more cohesive as an album? Still easily one of the top albums of the year and shits all over the new Fleet Foxes.

That's my top 3 living; 2pac is my favorite rapper. The rest is kind of a mixture, with Common and KRS-One ahead I guess. To me Ghost and DOOM are the most consistent rappers ever, and some of the most imaginative. Their collabo album, DOOM Starks, has been at the top of my wish list for some time, and luckily their indie label seems to be hinting at a 2011 release of something.
