i think technical proficiency is really not key to the enjoyment of several genres.

it enhances it, but it's not the end all be all of the performance

of course, this doesn't excuse shitty playing

 ???

I like it; it's quite different from her new album. From what I've read it sounds like her second album is where her direction changed, ultimately leading to Have One on Me.

I like the new stuff enough to not particularly care if they don't play the "hits", but I don't think they have enough material to be sticking to it exclusively.  Although, I suppose there's plenty of space to extend Metanoia and Siberian Breaks to 20+ minutes each.

I've watched some videos of them live on youtube and I've never gotten the impression that they're bad...

I guess I just don't really understand what "bad" is live anymore.  I saw Titus Andronicus in a shitty record store a couple weeks back and they were technically terrible, but it fits their direction so well that it was awesome.

Is this hipster spin or something. Someone translate. I think he's saying "they were shitty live, but that's who they are so I liked it."

I should've rephrased that.  Their equipment was terrible, but they themselves were fine.

Have I mentioned this before?

Daylight Robbery is a punk band, but in that 80s way.  Boy / Girl vocals, clean guitars, not really poppy but certainly uptempo and up beat

http://daylightrobbery.bandcamp.com/

edit: derp.  I mentioned it last page.  I was listening to it again at work and I really like it.

For the same reason why people complain about people who exclusively listen to only old music.  It's a stupid complaint either way.  Good music is good.

wtf is allmusic, and why do you link to it all the time  ???

My brother is one of those "new music is so bad" types. He listens to the same 60s-70s Motown/soul stuff and barely branches out, although when he does it's a Big Deal ("I'm listening to Bob Dylan :smug"). Must suck to be so musically closed minded/boxed in considering the huge amount of shit out there to listen to

Been revisiting "Hounds of Love" by Kate Bush. I wasn't feeling the album when I first got into her but I'm definitely into it now, not sure why exactly.

:bow Kate Bush :bow2

One of mah favorites. Used to be my favorite female artist until she was superseded by Patti Smith. :heartbeat :heartbeat :heartbeat

Speaking of Kate Bush......Greg Laswell does a pretty awesome cover of This Woman's Work

And seeing Hall and Oates on that playlist, The Bird And The Bee do a pretty damn fine cover of Sara Smile too.

People who only find one era of music enjoyable are usually short-sighted and too lazy to really hunt for good music.

It's easy to say old music is the best because all the shit has been weeded out. It's incredibly easy to find accessible, easy-to-listen music from the mid-20th since it's all in the past. It's a bit more difficult to find 'good' contemporary music without looking for it because nothing right now is being called "legendary" or "classic" or "memorable" across the board unless it's in an ironic manner. Praise for this generation's music will only be found like, 20 years from now. And at that point, the kids of that age will say only the music we have now is good, and what they have 20 years in the future isn't good in comparison.

Most of my friends who know jack shit about music constantly say how bad contemporary music is, or how hip-hop sucks now, or some other bullshit. Music has been the same forever, all of it's good, it's just what YOU like. What bothers me the most is kids who say classic rock is the best because they played Guitar Hero 3 and now they're the final word on classic rock, and they, for one, believe that Led Zeppelin is the best band, like, ever.

Like Del said:
Quote from: Del tha Funkee Homosapien
Some just complain about the status of rap
They say it's average in fact
They wish the eighties was back
I say everything's everything
Nothin' stay the same
And yet, it is the same just
given a different name

Listening to the Lost S4 soundtrack, well mainly

I was mainly looking for the song that basically plays whenever Locke does something awesome - first played (iirc) in S4 when Locke...carries a body. There are parts of it throughout the Locke themed songs on the soundtrack, but not a good extended version

I've been in a soundtrack mood actually. The Fountain is back in my playlist. Clint Mansell :bow

I'll get the Moon soundtrack next

I've been listening to Crystal Castles (2010) Loving Celestica! Patiently waiting for june to get here for Pendulum's new album Immersion. I gotta wonder if there are any other artists that are similar to those two. I've got Cut Copy already as a recommendation and I tried MGMT but don't like them much.

Here's another I've been reminded of

Also found this older Freestyle CD in my CD case, popped it in and brought back some memories. Here one track  used to love and still do...

http://icoulddietomorrow.blogspot.com/2010/05/twin-stumps-seedbed.html

http://www.mediafire.com/?jotkdyrmiyq

Quote
From the opening guitar feedback to the militaristic, yet primal drums and crushing, fuzzed-out bass, "Landlord" makes it known that Twin Stumps' brand of sophisticated and misanthropic noise rock has reached new heights. This plodding opener is the both the band's death march and introduction to what is a defining moment for the band, as well as a landmark release for Fan Death Records, Seedbed.

I know the band struggled to find a recording quality that fit with their sound, but they've found it with Ben Greenberg of Pygmy Shrews, who does an incredible job here. His job on their 12" on Dais, while excellent, was lacking in low-end. Things are evened out a little more on this release with the addition of a more prominent bass tone that is both heavy and filthy, all without sacrificing the piercing guitar tones.

Not only has Greenberg helped the band find their recording potential that was hinted at with the 12", but the band's songwriting has excelled, as well, and I can finally say that there is a definitive recording of my live favorite of theirs, "Missing Persons." Along with that song, "Landlords," "Lungs," and "Lust Murder" are among some of the choice cuts on this album, which, to date, is definitely their best material. Seedbed is recorded beautifully, written confidently, conceptualized and paced masterfully, and executed soundly.

This is the band and label-approved "leak" of the album, so be sure to pick up your copy of this LP from Fan Death. Trust me, you will want to, as Seedbed stands as the strongest release thus far for the Fan Death camp and, if there's any justice in this world, it will position Twin Stumps in the upper echelon of contemporary noise rock.

not the real art work but it's way better than the real thing

This leaked yesterday and it's pretty damn. Nice handful of straight up bangers dayyuum. But then there are a bunch of inspirational/social commentary tracks. A few are good, others come off pretty damn cheesy. There's a track that's basically like a reggae version of that ICP Miracles song

Production is tight, Nas sounds better than he's sounded since Stillmatic, and while I don't always know what Marley is saying...dude is awesome
