All I can think of is that someone forgot to remove the points and I got lucky, or they are unable to remove points from an account like that and just left them. The 13 months free thing, though, no idea whatsoever, but I'm not going to complain if this is the kind of customer service MS is willing to provide!
Shit happens, man. Both of you have never fallen for something stupid in your lives before? I had just racked my brain on tests, got home feeling good, and didn't think twice about that link. It all happened in a few seconds before I switched from my computer back to the 360.
Of course I've fallen for stupid shit before, sometimes even falling for the same trick more than once. And I warned you that I'm feeling like a dick for expressing myself. Here's a question for the next time you are putting in any personal account details for any site other than the one hosting it:
Do you trust them? You can determine this by several factors:
- How long you've known of their existence
- The duration of time you've personally used the service
- How many of your friends are on the service
- The general reputation of the site
I'm on goodreads.com, Last.fm, Tribe.net (was, rather) and each of them has a function for entering hotmail/gmail/yahoo account information to poll for other currently registered users, to help create your own network of friends.
Even in those cases, I thought "Do I really want
this site to have one-time access to my account information?"
The site where you actively entered your own private account information was a farce against legitimacy. I've seen 419 scams with more convincing come-ons.
