Pokemon Gold/Silver remakes basically confirmed
« on: May 03, 2009, 11:57:28 AM »
Thoughts?

I told myself I wouldn't buy another Pokemon game until they bothered to do something new, but I might bite on this one. I have tons of memories playing Pokemon Silver.

I dunno, it depends on what features are included and taken out of the remake. It would be so like Nintendo to remove the Kanto region completely from the game.

i really liked g/s when it came out, but d/p looked terrible so if they look like that, no sale.

also, this needs kanto to even matter.

Cool. They need to fix some of the stupid stuff in D/P though (saving takes forever, battles are slow slow slow) before I'd bite.

Yea, I definitely won't buy anything on the D/P engine.

But I tried popping LeafGreen into my micro to play in short spurts on the go, and it is SO FUCKING BORING. I don't think I can ever play Pokemon again.

Probably something to do with:

- the stupid iv/ev system
- shitty new pokemon
- they never went the extra mile like they did in g/s by adding the Kanto region

Probably because it was when they ran out of ideas to improve the game and decided to release the same thing over and over

Gold/Silver was the last installment I played.  Loved it, but it also burned me out on the series. I remember grinding Pokemon by fighting the last bosses for ages to get all the evolutions.  Such self-torture.

What was so bad about the D/P engine?  I never played it.

I don't understand why they would remake a game that's been basically repackaged a million times over.

It's Nintendo.  Their entire business model is based on repackaging the same shit over and over.

Because it's a lot less work than a new installment and will probably outsell 95% of all other games out there.  The real mystery isn't why Nintendo makes these kinds of things, it's why people keep fucking buying it.

I bought Pearl on a whim because I had nothing to play on my DS, everyone was talking about it and I hadn't played anything Pokemon-related in over 3 years.  Can't say I regretted it, even though it took me over a year to get to the Elite Four because of how boring the game was at that moment.

I'll buy the Silver remake (unless they remove Kanto, then I'll just boycott it) because it was by far the best Pokemon game in the series.  It was a massive improvement on R/B/Y and the later Pokemon RPGs haven't come close to it for a plethora of reasons.  Plus, again, I need something to play on my DS anyway.

I bought pearl because I hadn't played a Pokemon since the original Pokemon Red. It was enjoyable enough, but not a whole lot had changed. I think I'll be waiting several more iterations before I get another one.

Do the newer Pokemons at least have some sort of "skip animation/attack flash sequence" option? I remember trying to catch em' all and wanting to fucking kill myself due to the snail pace. All RPGs should come with a warpspeed option, used when you finally dropped all pretenses towards the battle system and just grind shit out.

And yes you can skip animations in the newer PKMN games, but you can't disable the multi-page text that comes with every action.
