Ugh, did this thread turn to crap in a hurry.
Listen, this is for the mocking of Trek fans who take this shit too seriously. I understand that some here are arguing from the position of film snob (which I appreciate) and while I am always down for some mocking of Cheebs, the outrage at the EXTREMIFICATION of Star Trek is kind of lulzworthy.
It's like, on the one hand, sure the new movie will probably be a bit of a lame update. On the other, it's likely to be better summer escapist fare than either Bayformers or last year's Indiana Jones debacle. And on the third... most of Star Trek, through it's history, has been laughably bad or outright sucked. Don't believe me?
Original Trek: laughably bad, fun at times. Not really special despite the slavering nerd brigades it inspired.
TNG: good by accident. OK, not really. A good series for most of it's run, but usually because it ignored it's heritage.
DS9: the best, imo. Awesome because it took place in one location.
Voyager: lulz.
Enterprise: double lulz.
The various movies were all not very good.
So, if you're whining and bitching about the sullying of the franchise's good name, step back for a second, look around and realize who you're standing next to: Manabyte.
