Meh, I guess it doesn't matter that much in a game with a job system.

Btw. do specific characters better at certain jobs?

no but obviously you don't want the musclebound guy with 8 MP to be a mage

EDIT: actualy scratch that,i forgot there is a gimmick, there is one special powerfull job called hero... the other characters all need to master every intermediate job like gladiator or sage but the MC only need to master one before he can switch to hero

I got really into the grind and built all 4 of my main party to Hero class... now I have to go back and play the 6th chapter of DQ4. Made it to the bosses of the postgame dungeon but got pwned, and apparently I need to grind up like 8 levels.  :-\

Will do that sometime after beating Xenoblade and Tits.

goddammit i'm starting to want to choke myself with star ocean 4,the stupid cutscenes were all hidden in the other DVD's of the game, the character won't stop talking about friendship and love for hours and hours and hours,i'm at dvd3 and dvd2 was two dungeons, two single fucking dungeon, one featuring mostly palette swapped enemies, there's got to be like 3 hours of cutscene's in there alone

it's a good thing console jrpg (or heck at least tri-ace) are dead so i don't have to get lured by these sweet venus traps anymore :maf

How would anyone in their right mind want to try SO4 after having seen ANY video of the cutscenes? Oh right, Magus. :P I'm Playing Castlevania Portrait of Ruin finally since I got it at some flea market type thing a year ago. Put in about 90 minutesish of playtime. Most of the bosses killed me repeatedly unless I busted out lots of potions. In the Pyramid painting now. It's funny to go back to this after having played the online XBLA CV first since the environments, enemies, and music are all lifted wholesale from the old games.

God of War announcement got me in the mood to play some big dumb kill stuff with good graphics on a big screen AAA game, so I started Dead Space 2 finally.  Played the first chapter and at first it was freaking TERRIBLE in the opening where you're running around and one hit kills you and you have no weapons and it's all scripted shit.  But then when you get weapons and you're running around blowing things up left and right as a combat machine it's all good again.  Dead Space 1 had a better intro, but ep2 is looking cool at the start with ships taking off and stuff through the window.

So the other day when I started Dead Space 2, I started it on PS3 because I forgot I got the PC version for $5 last winter sale.  So I replayed the first chapter on the PC version to compare.  Yeah, looks a lot better at 60fps.  I don't think the image quality being cleaner is a plus though since it's supposed to be a crummy looking horror experience.  Still, will play it on PC.

One thing that's fucked about the PC version is it comes with EVERY PRE-ORDER BONUS.  So I get to the first shop and it has like ULTIMATE WEAPONS of every weapon in the game + a dozen ULTIMATE ARMOR SUITS and they all costs 0.  Since it's a survival action game, that kind of screws over any challenge at all.  So I'm restricting myself to not use anything at the store with a cost "0" because I know I'm not supposed to really have that.  I like the challenge of the Dead Space games.  Don't want to rob myself of that.

Dead Space 2 isn't a survival action game. Unless the (ammo) resource-management on higher difficulties alone makes it 'survival'.

Dead Space is survival action in that you have to actually play somewhat decently and manage your ammo/health to not die.  Like RE4/RE5.  As you progress, you get bigger and better weapons and the fights become more challenging.  Like RE4/RE5.

If you have all the best weapons & armor at the start of the game, there's no challenge and no progression of starting weak and getting stronger as your progress through the story.  Wouldn't be fun.

Note, I didn't say it was survival horror.  It's an action game, but it's an intense action game like RE4/RE5.

Anyhow, I just think that pre-order bonuses where they give you game breaking items at the start of a game are terrible and undermine the actual game experiences if you use them.

Really like how this screenshot of Dead Space 2 turned out:
http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/596968521386365142/F336176584D45F44793C305A9FEC5EC6B5DD390B/

Got to chapter 3 and I'm not sure of my stance on the game yet.  The action is competent, but the whole "explore dead town" thing feels like a soul-less copy of Bioshock at this point.  Also the gameplay feels pretty same-y to DS1; same enemies, same weapons, etc...  Feels a lot more streamlined linear walking-down-a-corridor w/set pieces though.  I dunno, it's still early, hoping this game will shine.  I really really liked DS1 and Extraction was pretty good.

its a good game but the storytelling is juvenile. I know, I know, story doesn't mean shit when you are blowing away aliens but I found a lot of the cutscenes/dialogue actually offensively bad in DS2. It's worse than fan-faction

I remember some Borian 1000'd the XBLA version of those games... was that you?

As I said I don't like that map. I don't like any of the maps so far - Witchyworld sucks, Ye Olde Lagoon sucks, Mayahan Temple is atrocious, the Mine is just awful... Nothing on the same level as Click Clock Wood, Rusty Bucket Bay, Gobi Desert or Treasure Trove Cove so far.

yeah I did a BK marathon last year and got 200/200 in BK and BT, and 1250/1250 in N&B

Hmm I'll elaborate. BT just has SO MUCH GOING ON. The levels are so intricate and exciting to explore, and the way they're all connected and the whole design of the entire game world, how some puzzles cross over the different maps... it's staggering from a game design perspective. BT is the best 3d platformer ever created. IMO Click Clock Wood is the only BK map on par with BT maps. But hey, opinions.

goddamit, who the fuck designed the final fight of star ocean 4? if you haven't had the pleasure to experience it,here's how it goes

- first they make you fight some armored guy, with the fight easily taking 30 minutes
- after you kill it,there's a boss rush of all the previous bosses you fought, did i mention that these bosses can be damaged only when they drop their guard and that some of them do so with rarity? also they all have a fuckton of HP too,so it's another hour down the drain
- then you finaly get to the final boss, and he has 4 balls swinging around him, each ball has another fuckton of HP,after another 30 minutes you destroy them all... is the fight over?
- no,the final boss goes berserk, every attack of his deals upward to 7000 damage, the "tank" of the party has around 9000... there is a skill which can bring your character to number like 18.000 and the like but otherwise i'm not sure how you are supposed to survive, the boss in question has around a bajillion HP,the fight went long enough i started doubting if i was doing any damage at all, that's how fucking long it goes on,i think i fought secret bosses in other rpg that took less than this fight alone
- oh and that's also ignoring all the cutscene's in between, after that there is the ending,i don't know how long is the ending but i know it's long enough that you can go make a sandwich, eat it... take your time, and you'd still return to edge opening his mouth

still you know there's a decent rpg behind all this,it's just get horrible after reaching roak, the cutscene become stupid, the dungeon become more monotonous, the pacing get throwed trough the window.... i like the IC aspect but it's barely there,it feels like they were forced to add it,cause that's what one would expect from a star ocean game, the fact that you can only make items while on board of the ship is really annoying

i wonder... do you get officialy declared insane after getting this 1000/1000? finishing the game 8 times alone sounds like the biggest pain in the ass ever

Speaking of playing shitty games that everyone warned you about, Gran Turismo 5 is kind of a turd.  It manages to be both overcooked and undercooked in all aspects.  The menus and car customizations are unnecessarily overdesigned.  I think I figured out what Polyphony was doing for the 5-6 years this game was in development.  Yet the racing itself is so underwhelming that it seems like an afterthought.  You may say "haw haw, that is gran turismo you faggot" but it was never like this for GT1-4.  I'm finding it hard to progress through the game.  I might just set it to the side and play other games and return to this later...maybe.

is GT5 dirt cheap yet? I can't justify spending a real amount of money on it, since the only racing I care about is rallying and the various shit-car novelty races.
