Yeah, I wish the 3rd one had gotten a US release. I don't play handhelds, but I would have played the 3rd one for sure. Didn't much care for the 2nd one.

The 1st one was really great though. I'm not a big srpg person, but VC is so un-intimidating. It really feels very pick up and play and not a slog like most other strategy games. I've never been able to really get into them beyond VP, Tactics, and Civ.

Oh boy, talking about VC again? VC is very different from other SRPGs and it's pretty easy to get into. It's accommodating to a lot of different playstyles, I recommend it.

I suppose this is a chance to plug the VC challenge run I'm still doing (on and off in between playing other games, of course). The playlist is here. I'm currently finishing the hard mode skirmishes.

I hope you're playing that on a true low res CRT display with none of that awful LCD monitor input lag. Need the authentic experience you know. :P

i just got to the part of owning the headquarter,so far it's okay... the fact that enemy shoots at you while you are moving is somewhat annoying (wouldn't it make more sense if it happened when you are trying to aim carefull instead anyway?) but it's no biggie! the drill instructor is clearly the best character... i'm amazed to see every generic soldier has his own face and VA,it gives them a lot of personality... at first i was trying to pick them based on skills but after the third guy who'd get an improved boost when it was thursday i said "fuck it" and just recruited 17 random fella's,if you give them the boot do they go back in the avaiable recruit list or just vanish into thin air? does anything happen if you put unit that like each other in the same battle?

Yeah enemies shooting at you can be annoying, it's a good idea to shoot them in the face so they stop doing that. Imagine the complaints if they kept firing in aiming mode. lol

If you dismiss them they go back into your roster, they don't disappear. You can rearrange as much as you like.

Characters who like each other get an accuracy boost in team attacks (which you don't unlock until Chapter 5). Some characters have the Good Buddy potential which sometimes gives them a stat boost if they move near someone they like.

Still playing Pinball Arcade, now that the new tables are out. Whitewater is fun, Space Shuttle is mostly easy, Pinbot is a drain-o-matic and Centaur isn't the kind of pinball you play before you go to sleep.

progressing through Super Metroid. Cleared out as much of Norfair as I can, got the grapple and wave beam. I see where the boss is but need the suit that will let me go through acid and lava I guess. So gonna head back to Brinstar, or Crateria and keep exploring around.

Also I'm going to whip out Path of Exile again. Just heard about the two new leagues, they sound quite interesting.

it's a really snazzy piece of hardware, but it's not entirely functional since it throws out legacy GameBoy compatibility, and the screen is just a little too small for my liking. Ultimately, I prefer it for its headphone jack and super-portability, but the screen on the SP (specifically the AGS-101) is probably better for enjoying those delicious 2D graphics.

Personally, I think the best way to play GameBoy games is on a GameBoy Player, but without a CRT/Gamecube with Digital Out, it's not gonna look very good on your TV.

GBA SP AGS-101 is the one you want.

There is no benefit for a Micro except for the cute tiny form factor.

AGS-101 has the backlit function, plus you can play old GB/GBC games.

Micro has better buttons and Dpad and the screen looks sharper, but that's probably because it's smaller so it helps with that ghastly low resolution.

Reading this last page I was going to suggest just picking up a gameboy player for the gamecube if portability isn't a factor.  But you already went for the SP.

And far cry instincts predator...you know you're playing an old game when it has a cheat code menu.  The game is pretty fun in a junk food/self-loathing way, like a low rent Crysis 2, or like a low-low rent Crysis.  Jumped straight to the DL..expansion pack?? second campaign where you're already a werewolf.  Game is ugly, static, and frame rate is a mess.  We could only be so lucky if the lineup of cross gen games is as ugly by comparison in a couple years.

got to mission 6,the fact that you get ranked on speed is sort of stupid...

how the game wants me to play it: use engineers to remove mine! advance slowly! do team attack! make unit hop between camps! Rank: B-C

how i play the game: GO ROSIE! I CHOOSE YOU! GO GO GO GO! Rank: A-B

why do i even have 19 other character i don't even know

there hasn't been much plot so far but the character are nice and they have a nice amount of dialogue without being a bunch of whiny mopey dude's a-la tales even if some of them are a little too over-writed (i expect welkins to take out an army of tanks with the help of a steel eating bacteria any day,if you catch my drift) so good job on that!

Was at a friend's house and we were just playing random-ass MAME games.

The First Funky Fighter - couldn't figure out how to play the game on MAME (since it uses a giant wack-a-mole button setup), really wanted to because come on how amazing is this?

Rage of the Dragons - never heard of this game before my friend showed it to me. SNK fighter from I assume right before they got bought out by the Koreans or whatever the deal was. Very 90's aesthetic, and a cute 90's raver girl character. Nice graphics too and a tag-team system more like Capcom's Vs games than KOF.

Devil Fish - Shitty Pac-Man clone that we couldn't figure out how to score points

Rabbit - fighting game, released by EA Japan of all things, with oversaturated graphics. Kinda reminiscent of P4 Arena since you summon a "fursona" (i.e. sexy foxes, rabbits, hawks), I think there is a Chinese mythological theme to it as well.

Gals Panic - A Qix clone where you unlock G-rated portraits of anime girls. Last time I was over we played a similar game where you got to pick from a few 90's figureheads (Clinton, Arafat) and you unlocked actual porn, but if you ran out of time the hot pornstar would change into some demonic figure.

Nam '75 - Run and Gun that plays almost like a proto-Sin-and-Punishment. Kinda tough to control (you hold the fire button to aim your gun, otherwise you run left and right as the screen auto-scrolls).

Radar Scope - Nintendo's failed arcade game mostly known for being the game that was converted into Donkey Kong. It's basically Space Invaders with a more 3D perspective.

Pang! - Got pretty addicted to this (also known as Buster Bros). Single-screen arcade action game where you launch a grappling hook up to destroy giant balls that break up into smaller balls. It's simplistic but addicting.

I took a little break from pouring all my time into New Leaf to flip on my PSP and play some Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, and I have to say how much better I like the PSP's hardware compared to the 3DS. I have the 3000, and even with the extended battery, it's much lighter than the 3DS, more comfortable to hold, and the screen is still gorgeous. If only they made Animal Crossing for it :(

Is Monster Hunter Portable 3rd worth playing? Various places on the internet price it cheaper than MH3U, and I'd love to take advantage of my system's region-freedom

I'd be terrified of picking that up at the wrong end one day and the PSP slipping out.

Went back to Path of Exile. Got the character I was working on killed (every time I come back from a break, hm...) but started up another right away. Have also been participating in a few races. The new Descent races are pretty cool, but have their own problems. I do like that you get points even if you die though. One of the rewards this time is Eye of Chayula (really useful for what I'm planning to do with my current character), but it's 80 points and I don't know if I can make that. Hm.

Continued with Icewind Dale 2 as well. Got to chapter 3 finally. I think I finally understood the system this time around. It's actually pretty flexible as far as multiclassing goes, almost beyond blurring the lines between them. It does require more planning though, but I play fairly simple characters so it doesn't matter as much. For example, I should have given my main fighter at least 13 DEX so that he can pick up a certain feat (or skill, I forget :lol ), but he's stomping shit regardless, so whatever. Half-orc Smeshgud do smash good. :D

Nights is such a interesting/weird game. I was expecting something more traditional but I like it. And it's so strange there's no tutorial, I was like "what do I do, how do I play, what is this?" I'm so used to playing games telling me what and how to do something it's odd to play one that doesn't.

And the music:

One of the missions has randomly triggered torrential rain that drops the visibility to basically zero. i remember a group of friends and i going through and the AI director decided to spawn a few kinds of special infected right when the rain hit and we all basically scattered. and since realism hard has no friendly silhouettes, we lost all track of eachother. shit was intense, yo.

but really like fistful said the game is so great because you NEED teamwork 100% of the time or you will die immediately. its intense because there are so many times where it can and will go wrong and you have to keep struggling on to try to make it to the end. its a constant nail-biter if your playing on hard modes.

So here's what I'm up to (concurrently):

- I started Mario & Luigi Bowser's Inside Story. Mostly a bit before going to bed and during bathroom breaks. In fact, the 3DS has been sitting in my bathroom for the past few days lol. Fun game. Bowser is cool and so far it's better than Partners in Time. I just wish Mario and Luigi aren't trapped in the body the whole time because they kinda suck inside.

- Persona 3 FES. I'm up to October right now, and while I still maintain this game is awesome, I'm ready for it to wrap up. I'm spending WAY too much time in Tartarus. I should start hitting the road blocks then leaving. As of now I'm always waiting for my MC to get tired.
- Sin & Punishment Star Successor. I started this two days ago, and not only is stupidly fun but goddamn it controls like a dream. :aah
