I'm telling you, it's a great concept built for an HD capable system. I'm sold!

I STILL don't know what we're talking about!

But with all this Milo, Natal, and Beard talk I'm getting really excited.

Breakout girl was embarrassing as well, sorry Chow.

What does it matter if it was 'embarrassing'?  The tech behind it worked amazingly well.  She had full-body motion tracking with full 3D movement, forward and backward.  Nobody is going to look cool playing a game like that.  Hell, nobody looks cool any sort of motion control game... you look like a fucking clown.  That doesn't change the fact that the tech behind this was amazing and shits all over the Wii.  HTH, bro.

Showing a video of a family playing a concept demo, some custom characters playing mini-games, and then a famous game makers talking about how it's a revolution... we've done this song and dance before.

Same deal on GAF...the vast majority of the haters and downplayers are notorious Nfags.

I'm looking at this from a purely unbiased perspective.  I mean, I have little to no interest in motion controls and will quit gaming if next-gen's control method is almost entirely focused on motion controls.

I'm looking at this strictly from a technological point of view...I love technology and we saw some badass tech today.  Wii destroyed.  Sorry, nfags.

Wii is like whole new level of embarrassing, but who cares if people are having fun with it.

That's something I wonder about. I can see it using voice (which is something the 360 can already do) and camera (also already possible) along with a controller... but how do you do use the body tracking when the normal controller requires you to put both hands together on it?

What I take from Natal (Nadal? whatever) is that it takes the worst part of the Wii and makes it potentially interesting, but it ignored the good part of the Wii (IR).  I mean, Microsoft is pushing this "no controller" thing so much that they haven't considered games where characters, you know, move around.  Maybe we will walk in place or something.

What looks cool about it are things like that fighting game or things like that.  If they had Rockstar do a new ping pong game where your screen was your side of the table and the other side was the computer or someone across XBL, that would be awesome.

There were impressions from some guy who works at Time about some Burnout game where you actually pretended you were driving a car.  Hands out in front turning a wheel, feet pushing down on imaginary pedals and boost activated by making a gear shift motion.  If it's a bunch of imagining things like that, I wouldn't really care.

I'm sorry, that post wasn't a reply to anyone lol, but I'll explain in case you haven't seen the whole MS conference.

Natal is of course the newly announced motion capture camera by MS.

Milo (a boy) is a proof of concept that Peter Molyneux used to show off some of his ideas for technology.

SCAN BEARD is something TeknoRobby was yelling when a bearded guy from the dev came to demonstrate Natal (which uses a "SCAN" voice command to scan several things, like your body) lol.

Thanks for the catchup, I didn't know any of this - I've only seen a couple of things from E3 thus far.

You're a sweetie. :-*

actually, being able to control my 360 without touching anything will be the best part about this.  It's probably just because I'm OCD, but even just checking for something on XBL I wash my hands to make sure I don't my controller greasy.

i don't care if it "destroys" the wii or not, i just like neat tech and out-there thinking

i pay to have fun playing video games, not to "win" at some cringe-worthy imaginary contest between corporations headed by people who wouldn't give a shit whether i died tomorrow as long as the check cleared

the questions and doubt being expressed about the validity of motion controlled video games being played with a camera system, in posts typed with fingers which only hours previously had been folded around a skipping, stuttering, imprecise remote control to play motion controlled video games - well, that's just pretty amusing to me, is all

I like the tech too, but if it's just a peripheral that isn't actually being pushed to the forefront as THE main controller for the system, why the fuck should I care?  It fills the same role as the EyeToy did, even if it is a whole lot more advanced.

It's impressive as hell, but it's just a dumb move at this juncture.

As far as I'm concerned, Microsoft has won this gen.  Best games, best online connectivity, and now best technology and innovation.  This conference was the cherry on top of a spectacular generation, despite coming in a distant second place.

With all that said, I'm still going down with the ship (Sony).

Come on! the bit where she drew something on paper and handed it to him where he then identified the shapes were impressive, then there's the bit where he asked the woman to come closer to the lake to catch some fish. I was impressed by the reflection part as well. It could all be scripted of course, but still.

Edit: Don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean I don't find him, or the fact that it's the first thing Peter chose to show off (along with kids' photos hanged on the wall behind him lol) was CREEPY AS HELL.

The tech is really cool.  I thought the eyepet stuff was cool too.  If they made Milo a monkey, that would also be fine. There is just something so incredibly wrong about having a virtual boy you interact with.

and even though they kinda got glossed over because of the camera and Kojima, Forza 3 and Halo ODST both looked incredible.  Ignoring all the petty remarks during the Forza 3 segment, it really does look amazing.  Forza 2 kinda looked like shit, that's without comparing it to the GT5 demo.

In what way?

Just to clarify, I think it would be creepy if it was any human in general, adult or child, you interacted with that way.

Does it really not bother you that it's basically making the imaginary friend thing real? from how they explained it, it's faux human interaction you can turn on and off at your leisure.  That is fucked up.

The whole thing creeps me out, but the species, gender or age really doesn't matter to me. I think the whole concept of having controllable companions is messed up (and about as good for the evolution of our species as this thing with always having the choice of what we watch or experience at all times), but that goes for any entity that is presented as being sentient.

DUDE!

Out of ALL the things he could've thought of, a boy? Why not a grown up?

And where are Milo's PARENTS? Why are they letting me talk to him and telling him to do his home work?

AGAIN CREEPY!

See, while Swaggaz isn't actually a damaged and creepy dude (at least as per his explanation), you most certainly are. Kids aren't creepy unless you put a pedo twist on it. And that is creepy. You creepy man.

because unlike the wii it's actually good technology. plus it's new so theres no software so they have to pick on the obvious tech demos

First off, I don't even own a Wii and haven't even played one. I only have a 360 actually, andplay a handful of games each year, and thats it pretty much. I like to keep up with E3 mostly for nostalgic reasons and also to see the business moves each company makes.

So, really, I'm only responding to the idiots with like no business or common sense really with this thing going "OMG Wii owned teh technology is bettur!11!!" Hey, I'm all for competition, competition is a good thing for the consumer. If Microsoft wants to burn money, thats fine by me, they definitely have plenty of it.

I'm simply responding in a business sense with this thing. It's not going to take the world by storm, its not going to sell consoles for 360, and its not going to do a damn thing to Wii sales. You like it, you think its interesting? Fine, thats cool. But if you say shit like "OMG this kills Wii", thats pretty fucking stupid.

Its amazing how ridiculously stupid videogame message boards are from strictly a business sense, thinking they know what will and won't sell and what will and won't be a hit. If Nintendo ran their company straight off of how a message board would, they would be bankrupt by now.

E3 circa 2000 - "OMG SEGA wins E3 hands down! Dreamcast!!!" Result? They're out of the console business about a year later.

Nintendo unveils motion control? "OMG distinguished mentally-challenged, horrible, Nintendo is done." Followed by Wii naming? "OMG WTF are they on!" Same with DS. Result? Nintendo rolling in dough like no other.

You think its cool, fine, just don't say any sort of "Wii killer" or "Wii owned" because business wise, none of that will come to fruition. If you think it kicks the Wii's ass technology wise, thats fine. It's just not going to do a damn thing making money and you're a fanboy moron if you think that.

I'm just really skeptical of how responsive a camera like this can ultimately be.  Especially a multiplayer game where it has to interpret multiple bodies.  Menu navigation looks pretty sweet, but I dont want to be holding my arms out in midair to play a racing game.  At least with the Wii I have other effortless inputs to complement the waggle, but it seems the cam is practically limited to body+voice recognition.  I'd love a warioware game like this for sure (no not snapped).  Nintendo should steal this for Wii 2 :].

Just got done watching the conference and was surprised at how well done it was - MS hardly ever seems to have a good show, imo.  I was also surprised that fucking Forza 3 of all things had my attention.  I don't know which god Turn 10 sacrificed a virgin to but it worked.  Pretty amazing jump from Forza 2 to Forza 3 and that video editor looked like all sorts of awesome.  The Project Natal stuff can kiss my ass - I don't want that - but everything else from Modern Warfare 2 to Shadow Complex to Alan Wake all looked great, imo.

Forza 2 to Forza 3 honestly seems like an Xbox 1 to Xbox 360 size jump to me.  I wasn't expecting Forza 3 to look that good considering how plain 2 looked, but it is probably the best looking racing game yet.  But I don't doubt that GT5 could look better, even if the Forza games always do play better.

If the pre-filmed video is to be believed, which I don't think it should be yet, the smallest type of detection it can make it whether you hand is open or closed.  I would be surprised if it can pick apart individual fingers.

Well that does mean that we've seen proof that a new "intuitive" way to give inputs doesn't mean SHIT unless there's software to support it.  None of the demos they showed, even the one where they controlled the NXE, had enough substance to them to make me drool over this and preorder it and I bet most people here think the same.

What Nintendo tried (AND FAILED) to do by making the wiimote the standard controller on the wii was to force every developer to think about unique gaming concepts.  You don't need to own a wii to know how bad that failed.  It's been a few years and I can count the number of great Wii games I like on one hand.

What guarantee is there that any developer will give a morsel of shit about Natal?

Funny how we got to see Gran Turismo concepts and a demo from way back when Forza 2 was released and now Forza 3 is coming around the corner.

And seeing how far Forza 3 has come, Polyphony Digital is going to have to really pull something out of their ass to make GT 5 something other than a day late and a dollar short.
