Batman Begins was a great film that didn't rely on tired gimmicks and drawn-out drama to help carry it to greatness. When a Batman film is less emo than a Spidey film, you know something is wrong.

All I know is that now, 2+ and 1+ years later, I find S-M2 immensely rewatchable from start to finish, while I find the FIRST ACT of Batman Begins immensely watchable, and most of the stuff from his Gotham return onwards rather blah generic stuff.s

By that criteria, how is SM2 -more- watchable? When Alfred Molina isn't onscreen, SM2 is a bad episode of Smallville starring Tobey MacGuire's hamface.

I dont really know. I guess its the intangibles. I dont hate BB, I like it quite a bit. I just find I like it less with each subsequent viewing. S-M2 I like about the same each viewing.

I don't like to get in the middle of Spider-Man and Batman film debates.  It used to be so easy to hate on 'im too prior to Nolan's gem.  Blasted progress.

Had I only watched BB the once, then I would agree about BB > all other comic book flicks. But as I say, after a bunch of viewings, I dont feel compelled to watch BB again until right before The Dark Knight comes out. Then again I havent watched Spidey in quite some time too. I havent watched any comic book movies in a while, come to think of it. Last one I probably watched was my Sin City DVD back in August or so.

I hate the part of spiderman movies where they throw McDonalds cups at the goblin, or they let spiderman crowd surf them while he's passed out. I also hate the scene they cut where a japanese man gropes spiderman as he is passed through the train.

Despite liking S-M2 more, I will say that I am pretty scared for S-M3. Everything Ive seen just looks "off". And the fact that they are adding in all these new characters and a cliffhanger for S-M4, despite the cast only signed for 3, doesnt leave me too optimistic. When I went into S-M2, I knew it was going to be great, and it was. I'll be going into S-M3 fearing the worst.

On the other hand, Im quite positive TDK will rock, and surpass BB.

Then whats with the Topher Grace/Venom supposedly at the end? And why introduce Gwen if this is the final movie? I know Dunst wants out, but if this is the last movie of the trilogy, then she gets out anyways, so there is no reason to kill her off and introduce Gwen.

See, this is my problem with S-M3 already: it seems so convoluted.

Topher Grace becomes Venom by the third act, and they all duke it out by the end and people die and the move comes to an end.

Christ. I will forever worship Raimi if he can actually jam all this shit into a 2 1/4 hour movie and still make it coherent and work.

It might be coherent, but it'll also be painfully predictable n sappy...and I mean sappy like some european ally mcbeal bringing over a piece of cake to spiderman then him dumping her like trash to get with some other girl.

The problem is that even if it's well done, 2+ hours is not a good length for an action movie.  Another problem is that with Venom confined to the third act, there's no way he'll get the attention he deserves.  He's one of the most popular comic villains EVER.

This is the buzz, beware - could be true!

spoiler (click to show/hide)
After spending much of the first third against Spidey/Peter, Harry decides that he doesn't want to fall into the same dark path his father did - and agree to help Pete fight the newly born Venom (Peter has washed the symbiote off by now) since he can't do it alone.  Also, Mary Jane is at risk!  At any rate, it all goes down at a construction site, when Peter and Harry fight Venom and Sandman.  Harry dies.
[close]

Gwen is only there to setup Eddie Brock.  During Peter's symbiote phase, Gwen goes ga-ga for the emo Pete and that makes Brock insanely jealous, since he has a crush on her.

I would agree. In fact I think this is a rather major problem with most Hollywood movies today- they are unnecessarily long. What happened to the days of movies that could do everything they needed to in 90 minutes?

I liked BB a lot, more than either Spider-Man movie, and I'm totally in the tank for Christopher Nolan.

But how many times did they pull the "In a poignant moment, someone repeats a line from earlier in the movie?" bit?  I've never liked that device.

We need a bipartisan commission on action movie bloat.  Nobody knows how to wrap things up anymore.

I'm about to solve everything.

Star Trek and J.J. Abrams? He did good with MI3, but resurrecting an entire fucking franchise with MATT DAMON? I dunno.....

MI1 and 3 were good films... 3 is slightly better, mainly because Philip Seymour Hoffman kicked my ass for two hours.

Batman Begins was better than Spider-man 1 and 2. The Spider-man movies weren't bad, but Christopher Nolan also kicked my ass for two hours. While Tobey Maguire was a decent cast, I feel as if Nolan nailed fucking Batman.... Raimi hasn't really NAILED Spider-man.

Snakes on a Motherfucking Plane was B-movie goodness. Not a great movie by any means, but amusing.

By the way, none of the M:I movies can FUCKING TOUCH CASINO ROYALE. BOW TO THE AWESOMENESS OF THE BEST BOND SINCE CONNERY.
