Yeah, the perspective (especially towards the edges of the screen) is a bit weird and caused me to mess up a few attacks, Bebpo.

A great game, I think I am gonna put more time into this after I beat Resonance. Supposedly, the last few dungeons are fucking killer... the bee boss took me multiple retries actually :gloomy

the last few dungeons feel like a chore, to be honest.  the last one especially is just draining.  I was all about going through the new game plus right away, but I need a tiny break after it.  Not because it is difficult, just time consuming and boring.  as for the bosses, I don't think they're that difficult unless you use a Zelda 1 style sword and can't slash (or the book).  Mostly I don't like how long it takes to wear them down.

if anyone here gets all the achievements in this game, I would be amazed.  There is a spelunker mode you need to complete where one hit kills you.  You literally need to finish the game without getting hit once.

I got about halfway through dungeon 5 without understanding why everyone had a problem with it.

Then I had to fight a knight guy inside a tight set of blocks, lost a the last third of my health bar in an instant. OK, game over. Tried to progress in the dungeon but it didn't reset all the switches, so I have to navigate the dungeon just to reset the block walls, just to set them all up again for my second attempt. Fucking distinguished mentally-challenged.

Hopefully stepping out of the dungeon will just reset it completely, but even that is a pain in the ass.

Oh now I see, if the blue guys touch you you instantly go down to half a heart, even if your health is at max. They will routinely put 3-4 of them together in a narrow room to insta-fuck you. And in tight quarters your sword will sometimes get hung up on the level geometry and cause you not to hit the enemy. Now I see.

sounds kind of shit

I was excited to play this day 1, but after playing a bit to get my fill and hearing all the horror stories of the last few dungeons the game is going far down the backlog.  Too bad, because it seems like the first half of the game is a great old-school title.

It's still great but the second half is literally full of "this is bullshit" moments.  Unless you use a guide or scan the entire game world after every dungeon, you will miss out on a lot.  One example is how an important item used to moving around the world and attaining the "true" ending is hidden.  By hidden I mean there is a completely random square on the map that teleports you to that item's location.  On one hand it is similar to Zelda 1, on the other, this game never once requires you to do anything like that in the rest of the game and feels more like Zelda 3.

Without spoiling anything, the best part of this whole scenario is that Zelda logic tells you "ok, I'll get this item in a later dungeon".  So you go through the dungeons and never get the item, right? well you finally figure it out by reading a guide or something.  Turns out you lost your chance to get that item because the game randomly decided that you can't do it anymore.  You can go and find the things required, but they won't be of any use at this point.  Then you realize that you've missed a dozen or so other items, events, and weapons because you didn't talk to every single person after every dungeon.  In short: the game is more old-school in that broken way than it leads you to believe.

At least there is a new game plus! wait, nope, hardly anything carries over.  Only the two forms of currency and sword "levels".  Actual swords, health, magic, etc. and events all have to be redone.

but excuse all my bitching.  I did like the game a lot, there was just a lot of bullshit at times.

wouldn't really call it a hyped exclusive.  It's a budget game and sold as so, and a lot of the game is apparently good.

I think the only hype was because From Software has been on a roll this gen with Armored Core 4A & Demon Souls.

hype was from it being a Zelda-clone that caters to people who like old video games.  I think if I were to read my own impressions of the game, my opinion of it drops massively towards the second half.  As it went on, more problems became apparent, like how every dungeon is the same.

There were no block switch puzzles in Zelda 1, nor were there enemies that brought you to the brink of death with one touch. But I am sure I will get through the dungeon.

Nah, it's pretty good. If you keep your expectations in check then you'll have a good time. Lemme lay out the real talk for you guys:

This game is a mish mash of NES archetypes that uses Zelda 1 as its foundation. If you want a classic NES retread with modern graphical bells & whistles then this game is for you. If you think that style of gameplay is bullshit (and understandably so) then skip it. This game wasn't hyped and shouldn't be since it's so niche. It's simply a nice diversion for nostalgiafags and classic Zelda fans.

I don't know why Linkzg keeps incorrectly insisting this game is like Zelda 3 when it doesn't even come close to it in terms of design, direction, or gameplay. All of his complaints and frustrations stem from his fact that the game does a marvelous job imitating the original Zelda (for better or for worse) but he keeps expecting LttP like quality, which is completely absurd. Ignore him and expect it to play like the original Zelda with a modicum of direction thrown in while retaining a classically archaic goal structure that hearkens back to the old NES days. It's pretty fucking obvious, I don't know why he or anyone else would expect different.

One thing that is bullshit are the number of time-sensitive side-quests that you can miss and are pretty fucking ridiculous to figure out. So if you're not using a guide expect to miss quite a few trophies. If you're an anally retentive aspergers twat then I suggest you use a guide to play the game. Again, this game plays like old Japanese NES games so don't be a bitch.

Oh yeah, the game can be brutally difficult if you haven't been weened on old NES games or plain fucking suck. I'm a badass so the game was a breeze for me. HINT: buy some fucking potions and upgrade your sword with pierce you distinguished mentally-challenged fellows. You are given options so fucking use them!

that was kinda rude  :'(

I didn't say it was exactly LTTP; I said it was like game that isn't quite LTTP, but closer to it than Zelda 1.  The overworld is obviously more LTTP, as are the items, item upgrades, and parts of dungeons (when we start getting into multiple floors, and block switch puzzles as AV mentioned).  Then there are other things like bomb spot indicators on walls, and the fact that the game has a map with locations you can quick travel to, as well as the next dungeon/goal.  Not to forget all the signs and characters that tell you how to navigate certain area (for example the characters that tell you how to pass the moving sand).  Combat is more LTTP depending on your weapon with the ability to slash and do a full spin move.  Then there is the dash move.  I can't tell if you're just messing with me or haven't played Zelda 1 in a long time.

also, the game is piss easy, imo.  With the exception of the final boss, I have every other enemy/boss in the bestiary.  The only potion I used in the game was trying to get the 6th boss into the book.

There are a decent number of LttP concepts here. Which is fine, but then you also need concepts from LttP like shortcuts through parts of dungeons you have already completed.

BTW one of the things they did not improve over Zelda 1 was hit detection. They also decided to give him 3x as much health as the typical Zelda 1 boss. I wouldn't mind that because he is fairly easy to dodge, but when your boomerang clinks off his face and doesn't work for no reason or suddenly your shield block doesn't work out like it did the last 10 times, it is a pain in the ass.

you can call for improvements on these things without misunderstanding the game.

I cannot believe the hit detection in this shit. Why make my character hold the shield in his left hand if its the right side that blocks fireballs? It's in the same spot no matter what your avatar is, so what is the excuse?

I think I'm done playing this shit. I don't think I died once in this game up to the 5th dungeon and this boss fight is a clusterfuck. I feel ripped off.

Did you make your own character or use a default one?

It is but maybe the positioning of it changes?  I mean if you make a small body does the shield float off away from the body or is it attached?  Just throwing out guesses on why the hit detection is off.

Is there a site that shows off all the cool user-made characters?

That's the only thing that interests me about this game since everything else sounds crap to meh.

Is there a Zelda 2 Link?  I was kinda fond of that game even though so many fans hate it.

Well, it's a throwback game and has many of the same limitations as an older generation game.  It's a bit more complete and polished than Zelda 1, though, and feels more like a cross between it and Zelda 3.  Most of its flaws seem to be the result of this retro flavor the game has.

Ok, so dungeon 6 DOES have a shortcut that lets you skip the first third of the dungeon on a second attempt. Why couldn't the last one have this feature? 6 isn't even hard.

Awesome. I just picked it up last week. I'm enjoying it quite a bit. The humor is cool. The *Poof *Poof girl made me laugh out loud.
