    Leno debuted huge: Jay Leno’s new prime time comedy/talk show copped 18 million viewers… That’s NBC’s best performance in the Monday 10 p.m. timeslot since the Summer Olympics in August of 2008… 18 million people is about 6 million more than watched Leno’s glutinous final broadcast as host of “The Tonight Show” in May, and about twice as many people as caught Conan O’Brien’s debut as host of “The Tonight Show” in June.

    Conan’s younger audience has flamed out: In his 14th week as host of “The Tonight Show” — the most recent for which final stats are available — Conan clocked just 1,000 more 18-to-34-year-olds than Leno had one year earlier…Just 13 weeks earlier, Conan had attracted nearly a million more 18-to-34-year-olds than Leno had snared the comparable week one year earlier.

    Obama’s going on Letterman: President Barack Obama will make the first appearance ever by a sitting U.S. President on CBS’s Late Show with David Letterman on next Monday’s show. He will be the sole guest on the broadcast. President Obama has already appeared on The Tonight Show since being inaugurated in January, making a visit to the program, then hosted by Jay Leno, on March 19.

I think this has more to do when who watches what then with Conan losing it.

That has nothing to do with it. The numbers in the same article even state he's lost viewers since taking over the show, not against Leno, but himself.

I posted a couple of months ago that he looked uncomfortable, and as a viewer, he's just not that interesting to watch anymore.

I like Letterman's interviews.  He's the most sarcastic out of all of them.

I miss the old Letterman.  The 1980's NBC Letterman.  While I've liked Conan off and on I don't think there's ever been a better one than Dave in the 80's.  The guy just didn't give a shit.

Conan needs a Daily Show/Colbert Report type deal on a cable channel.  Not political like them, but just an hour where he can do whatever without toning things down.

Or go back to simpsons and make them awesome again.  He wrote the best episodes.

I think it is more him doing the Tonight Show format instead of doing a regular Conan format sort of show.  He needs less schmoozing of boring Hollywood guests and more guests and general action relative to the younger audience he had before.  It feels like Conan doing Leno's show rather than a true Conan Tonight Show.

All things considered, this isn't the first time Conan and the production staff found themselves in a tough situation. They've overcome obstacles and challenges in the past and I'm pretty sure they've got it in them to do it again. Or at least one could hope.

I think his old show was better, edgier; but I also think they're trying to find their rhythm in this new slot.

The only time I really enjoyed watching Conan the last 5 years or so was during the writer's strike. It was amazing at that time.
