two ryu + infinite revive + ut spamming.

yeah, this is not by team ninja alright.

and for some reason i can't press start during mission mode.

@kranz, they brought back ng1 purple fiends, you might see cat chicks again though with ng2 obliteration + more powerful ut doubt you would be having the same experience.

It's not like the missions are on Mentor difficulty and even on the one at Warrior difficulty getting near your ally and STANDING STILL REVIVING THEM lead to your death 99% of the time.  Unless there is a quick revive that I don't know about where you just hit a button once as you run by them.

Ummmm, yeah, so the word around gaf and gamefaqs is:

--No incendiary shurikens for ryu
--No windmill shuriken
--No tests of valor

the first two are based on the fact that they aren't mentioned in the Prima guide.  could still be a mistake. the other one is from some web show, but the guy is playing it on easy, so maybe that has to do with it. or he missed the key that allows you to do them.

if that's all true, then wow  just wow

incendiary shurikens were really handy for quick obliteration, this will make master ninja a bit harder.

i also noticed that the bow can't be charged in the demo, it was very brutal against some enemies.

as for tests of valor, dunno what to think of them, they were fun on normal/mentor but master ninja test of valors were very unbalanced due to IS ninjas and shaky camera.

what would that leave for projectiles...just the bow and normal shurikens?  that doesn't seem right...maybe smoke bombs will come back?   those actually would have been useful as fuck in NG2.

dunno but seeing as how the bow is now mapped to L2 i think that's it, just the bow and normal shurikens.

bow: L2, shurikens = O

Demo is awesome just for the bump in resolution alone.  NG2 on the 360 always had that weird "off" look about it but Sigma seems to have corrected the problem.  I really miss all the blood and body parts though.  Seems like such a stupid thing to cry about but I loved how the blood sprayed all over the floor and walls as you're choppin' guys limbs off in the 360 version.

Might pick this up later down the line.

I do kinda miss the blood too.  I think it's pretty awesome that someone finally looked at the history of media in which fights with bladed weapons never get as gory as they would in real life and said "fuck it, my game is going to have body parts flying all over the place and buckets of gore."  :lol  You show people NG2 and they'll wonder why the game wasn't in the news, while the relatively bloodless/goreless GTA games are.

but functionally, the gameplay is the same, so it doesn't really bother me. (though it's harder to chop limbs in NG2S, or else the fights would be over in a second if you exploited the one-hit limb chop moves with certain weapons.)

Seems like it's a toss up...some things are better, other things that were good were removed completely.  I guess I'll see if team missions + the rebalance outweigh the missing stuff.

I wonder if the karma multiplier orbs are gone too, since they weren't in the demo missions.

They probably did get rid of the green orbs. To get a decent score in the karma missions, you basically just have to get lucky and get a 5x multiplier really fast, essentially making it more luck-based than anything. Survival missions, on the other hand, depended on a balance of UT/OT'ing through waves with a 5x multiplier or trying to refresh your timer, so the green orbs really made the survivals worth something. And since the survivals have probably been cut, it'd make sense to cut the orb too.

And yeah, if the IS and WS are cut, then all Ryu would have left is the bow, spear gun and the new gun he's getting in Sigma 2.

Yup, that's it in a nutshell. Which you can tell is driving some people apeshit, because they were really amped to have the "definitive" NG2.

No incendiary shurikens? What the fuck? That was one of my biggest strategies in NG2 in chapter 5. Use some incendiaries, blow off some body parts, one hit kills. That shit helped you SURVIVE.

yeah, I'm waiting for more detailed impressions before just saying "they took this out? wtf?!" other shit could have been changed to affect that.  I'm most curious about the bosses.  The one from the demo was boring but still better than the majority of Ninja Gaiden 2's shitty bosses.  All about the other bosses in Sigma 2 is an Evil Ryu at one point, which is awesome, and the Statue of Liberty, which looks like the demo boss again...so boring.  The game should be all Genshin and Evil Ryu bosses.

Quote from: S1kkZ
some impressions from the final version:
-ninja dogs in level 2 are much easier but still a pain in the ass
-you can only upgrade your weapons in some muramasa shops and only 1 weapon upgrade per visit/store
-the game feels much easier (dont worry, its still hard enough)
-loading times when you pick up an item are very long

one question: in which way is the japanese version censored? i can see no difference between the jpn demo and the european version.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=17811302&postcount=908

Quote from: S1kkZ
just finished chapter 3, more impressions:

-only one muramasa shop per level, where you can upgrade 1 weapon (and 1 weapon only). the weapon upgrades are free.
-the big pink demons are a piece of cake (i hated them in ng2) and almost never use their fireball attack
-the boss in the third chapter is now the easiest boss ever (hated him so much in ng2). i never got hit once and every attack from him is easy to dodge
-bow is pretty powerful
-remember the annoying sections with the flying creatures, that shot projectiles at you in level 3? gone

the game is much more fun, i love it. but i really miss the blood.

The Collector's Edition wasn't worth it.  Shocking, I know!  You get a soundtrack CD (that doesn't have all the music) and an 80-page comic/mini strategy guide.

Just played through the first half of chapter 3.  It's like NGS 1.5, which is a good thing.  I mean, pretty much everything was confirmed from the demo.   The difficulty level on warrior is pretty damn easy, but it's keeping my attention.

--The graphics are pretty good.  I get a fair amount of tearing.  Only had one noticeable spot of slowdown (outside the DOATEC building in ch.3.)

--The pre-order costume is kinda ghey

--Defense is less about invincible frames and more about actual blocking.  You don't get thrown as much, but the attack strings are longer and the enemies do this weird thing where they sort of "shift" behind you during their strings.  This puts pressure on both sides if you're getting mobbed, so you can go into guard crush a lot easier.  This was in NG2, but you usually get thrown before hitting guard crush.

--Throws are not nearly as much of a worry, though in the demo they were more frequent and accurate in mentor and MNM.  You can also counter throws like any other blocked move.  you just have to hit an attack while they're in the animation of grabbing you, but before they touch you.  Not sure if this was in NG2.

--Seems like most of the fights are remixed, usually to be easier.  Pinky demons don't show up until you hit the pit in chapter 3.

--The second encounter with the buddha statue sucks less and is a bit harder.  Rassetsu is pretty tough too.

--Weapon upgrades are weird.  AFAIK, it's not once every shop, it's whenever the game feels like giving you an upgrade.  I've only been given one so far.  as a result, there's nothing to spend money on, so i've already got like 50,000 karma...

--Crystal skulls still don't seem to do jack shit.  the reward system in NGB/S was awesome.  lame.

--All of the little annoying puzzles are gone.

--There's no scoring system in the campaign.  With the way these fights are laid out, which are more like NGB/S instances, rather than a whole level of guys going after you at once, they could've implemented the timed fights from NGB/S.  I've been playing some NGS and this just feels empty without the scoring system or even a rank at the end of the level.  I've played NG1 in all its forms about a jillion times because I like the scoring system.  I'll play through this twice to unlock stuff, then probably stick to team missions.

Overall, it's a weird game. I like it better than NG2. The enemies take more time to kill and it's more defensive. but it's definitely still a step back from NGB/S (just not as large of one.)  Some things they couldn't be expected to change...the level design is pretty atrocious for one thing.  These missions kind of feel like they go on forever...they need to change that up in NG3.

I'm not sure. there's no story to catch up on and I can't see why one would ruin the other.  Maybe play 2 first.  You'll have a bit of a head start on your skills and might appreciate the scoring/level design better.
