I just hope it doesn't fail too hard so Kenzan and RGG4 can be brought over too.  Oh but it will.

If it's one thing Sega knows how to do, it is not making money.

There has to be some kind of delusional Yakuza fanboy in charge of Sega's localization decisions. There is no other answer for why a company would so willingly commit suicide time and time again.

making sense of almost any decision Sega makes is kinda nutty.

If we're looking for a logical reason, PS3 sales are way up worldwide due the slim, maybe they feel a high-review scoring game (like Valkryia) can be a modest success, especially if there's already a proven (although probably very tiny) fanbase to support it.

Maybe they've got Yakuza 4 coming down the pike and they don't want to leave money on the table.

Maybe they're rededicating themselves to quality to help atone for all those shitty games they have been pushing out in recent years.

I dunno, I don't care so much.  As long as I gets me some Yakuza 3 (Kenzen and 4 if I'm really lucky) then I'm cool with whatever rationale provided it.

Sega should just reboot this franchise when it hits PS3 in the west.  Just call it Yakuza.

I'll give it a try.  I've always found Yakuza interesting but the PS2 games are just too damn ugly to play nowadays.

FUCK YES

I cannot wait! PS3 actually has a few decent exclusives now. The slim is cheap so I'll get one soon

My understanding is that SEGA isn't the one bringing it out.

Atlus?

If it's not Sega, the chances of it having the JPN audio w/subs is about 300% higher

Ignition.

So basically, Shane is taking the chance that neogaf's whining will translate into sales.

Crikey, that's a hell of a gamble.  For a small publisher with what would be a sizable translation/production (VA, not to mention buying the rights from Sega would be huge) of a really niche franchise.  I mean, wow man, holy crap.

It makes sense for Sega to do it, kinda.  Anybody else approaching it would be like burning money.  I'm still glad for Ignition's apparently massive cojones, I hope they stick around long enough to pursue even less commercially accessible games.

Yakuza 2 still hasn't been released in Europe...

I won't forget that, SEGAy.

The PS3 games aren't exactly great looking either.

Here's hoping they do the same with 3D Dot Game Heroes

And I still wonder why they don't also made a 360 version when they have all the assets and other devs talk about how it's easier to port from PS3 to 360.  Maybe if the game does well here, it could be considered.

Yeah 3D Dot Heroes looks like a much more interesting concept.  Hopefully Yakuza 3 doesn't destroy Ignition and they can bring that one out too.

Why isn't Sega taking the risk themselves? IDK if I want to buy it from Ignition, because Shane is... well, annoying.

Is the first Yakuza worth $20 new? I'm really interested in this game but I hear mixed things about it all the time.

Is there any way I can tell if I'll like it/hate it before playing it? Is it comparable to anything? Or is it just that the game has a lot of flaws that some people find hard to swallow and others don't mind?

The only thing I'm stingy about in video games is controls. If the controls are fucked I usually can't play the game.

So this was what Sega meant when it said that Yakuza 3 was never coming over to the US and a decision was still left to be made.

RGG3 isn't a good jumping in point at all, but it's good to see that its coming to NA. Seeing how I've already played through the Japanese version, I don't know if I'll buy the NA version.

Also, I wonder if this means that Kenzan isn't coming?

The only thing I'm stingy about in video games is controls. If the controls are fucked I usually can't play the game.

I'll try to be as honest about the flaws as possible:

- The voice acting is pretty bad.  Mark Hamill kinda tears it up in a funny way, and Michael Rosenbaum isn't terrible, but most of the rest is pretty out there thanks to the waaaaacky script.

- The camera is balls.

- Kazuma sucks at targeting and sometimes goes into long combos.  You'll find yourself getting beaten on by off-screen opponents and/or enemies you whiffed on by while doing your combo.

- The controls are a bit odd.  Mostly a timing issue, I feel.  Everything feels very clunky at first, but you get some extra moves later that make things a bit easier.

- There is a bit of stupid fetch-questery.

The game is a beat-em-up with some mild open world elements when you aren't fighting.  Don't be tricked into thinking this is some kind of spiritual successor to Shenmue, it's not.  At all.

As for what I love about it:

+ The story is interesting and the characters are cool.
+ The fighting is wonderfully brutal.
+ Once you get used to the idiosyncrasies of the controls, the game really plays nicely.

I'll take this into consideration. Does the second game improve any of this?

People are soo gonna bitch about all the lame ass orphan-based fetch quests in RGG3, and if they don't, they're fucking idiots.

What I love about Yakuza 1 are the quests. They are so absurd and wacky jappy I cannot help but love them. Like the one where you go to the strip club and a dude in drag comes out, starts dancing and brings out a shotgun aimed at Kazuma's forehead. :lol

Or the quest where you're walking around town and some big tittied bimbo comes up and asks you if you want to drink some booze with her, so she gets you drunk and steals all your money. :lol

Yakuza 2's sidequests are pretty tame compared to the first, baby one aside.
