"Regrettably, based on Microsoft/Danger's latest recovery assessment of their systems, we must now inform you that personal information stored on your device - such as contacts, calendar entries, to-do lists or photos - that is no longer on your Sidekick almost certainly has been lost as a result of a server failure at Microsoft/Danger. That said, our teams continue to work around-the-clock in hopes of discovering some way to recover this information. However, the likelihood of a successful outcome is extremely low."

Don't they do routine backups?  All servers side companies do. Unless something happened with their backup servers too.

my guess is it has less to do with the dangers of the cloud and more to do with the dangers of acquiring a company you don't know what to do with, but I dunno.

I thought they farmed out the maintenance to some Indian company or something and they fucked it up?

My wife's deaf sister (yeah its complicated!) and her deaf friends are totally freaking out about this. Sidekicks are still enormously popular with the deaf/Hard of Hearing community since the company was one of the first mobile device providers to make something that was useful for them.

Hope they clear things up. I was reading that MS did a SAN upgrade without a backout path? That's like something that a group of college interns would make a mistake on.

Yeah, apparently they outsourced the SAN upgrade to a bunch of idiots.

I didn't even realize Sidekick was still around. Maybe I'm just out of the loop, but I was under the impression the smart phone market was cornered by Blackberry and Apple.
