I really hate posters like Kevincow. They just can't accept other opinions. Fucking douchebags.

For what it's worth, I didn't leave because of Kevincow or DKC2.  I just feel there's nothing really worthwhile at GAF for me.  I've felt that way for a long time.  It's why I was hoping WYL was going to do well.  The only fun I've had at GAF has been talking about sales numbers and trolling.  I tried to talk about games when I first got there and saw the general results, so I rarely bothered after that.  The sales numbers are "gone" now, so not much point talking about that, plus half of Sales-Age has been going into the loonypile ever since things started going down for Nintendo, so the discussion's getting pretty bad anyway.  The trolling has been fun but after a few years I'm not even seeing the "faces" of the people I'm trolling anymore.  It's getting repetitive and dull.

The only reason I was even staying at GAF was because of a couple of other posters who wanted me to stay, and we all kind of mutually decided to leave recently.  And yes, that does mean I'll be posting more here, but don't expect too much.  I still don't think the gaming discussion here is a good fit for me.

I've never found the level of interaction there satisfying. It's a bunch of people waiting for their turn to talk, not listening to anyone else. It's also full of people patting each other on the back, and those groups busy high-fiving each other are cliquish; they don't really like each other (they don't really even know each other), but they want to clump up to feel part of anything. And that's just it; they're not really realizing that they're on a forum on the internet because they're convince they're on the inside track to the games industry; they're in conversation with the movers and shakers, and they're making a difference.

I think it was ultimately a tech demo created by Nintendo for the purposes of competing in its own way against the 32 bit consoles coming out around the same time.

I agree with both SM and FP about GAF.

I got hooked onto GAF originally because it was a great news aggregate board - if it was somewhat relevant, it was posted on GAF.  I stopped visiting because I got tired of the stupid and shitty puns that seemed to be mod sanctioned.  I also got tired of the contrived personality pimping - losers like Andrex, RubxQub, RiskyChris, and Mama Robotnik should have been banned outright from the beginning, not celebrated as quirky if a little asocial dudes who are just special in their own way.  I also got tired of the black and white extremes that are common with manchildren who can't hold down a steady job or function in society.  I also got tired of the boring and inane circle jerks where people flap their hands frantically like an asspie because a sacred opinion is not held by everyone who visits the internets.  Finally, I got tired of mod sanctioned trolling that actively ruined many good threads.

Not that I strived to be better but the difference is that they feel they are special snowflakes who offer poignant insights on a regular basis or their played out personalities are deep and original.  I just go to forums to read occasional news tidbits, to laugh, and just to kill some time if there is some free time.  The older I get, the less tolerance I have to manchildren who have a dozen looping Alison Brie avatars.

The OT side was a little better imo. While there are still lots of idiots and poor moderation on that side also, by comparison the moderation was always lighter on the OT side which made it less shitty. And there were/are some cool posters over there. It just takes a while to pick out the handful of good ones.


Now the gaming side was always a worthless shit hole since I started over there which was like in 2005 I think or so. People take that shit way too seriously. If somebody says they like a movie, or a tv show, or a piece of music  and you say you don't like it, for the most part people are cool with that. Opinions being opinions and all. But say you don't like a certain game that other people like and all hell breaks loose.  Everybody over there thinks they are the roger ebert of game discussion rather than just another guy with another opinion and it pretty much destroys any conversation. Combine that with the platform warrior stuff and its just about useless.

I'm fine with news from gaf and everything else (and some news) from here.  If I was dying for game discussion, I would have made an account on one of the other forums some of you mentioned.

I think its good for game news. I also thinks its good for asking problem questions on the ot side. If I have a problem with my computer or some other general life problem that is of a technical nature, I tend to make a thread over there because the population is so large, there are bound to be a few people who have the same problem I do and have resolved it. But honestly that's not why I started posting over there. That's just what it devolved to because I realized every other kind of post was generally useless.

Just like some of the guys in there are creepys, some of the politically correct white knights in there are being annoyingly judgemental.  Most of the people on that fucking forum are like 20 anyways.  It's not a stretch for them to be attracted to a 17 or 18 year old.  Either way, I don't give a fuck.  Selena Gomez is hot.  That guy can suck my balls and go be a protector of the innocent elsewhere.

Well, that's somewhat true – it's the only reason people seem to still like the game.  There's nothing particularly special about the game nearly 20 years later, and there were better platformers years BEFORE it.  Even I realized that as a kid

The level design philosophy was sort of sonic 2-like in offering a straight forward quick route and also secret routes and hidden areas. (If I recall correctly)
