true, but even by everyman standards she doesnt really fit. shes another kid with powers. just like the countless kids with powers. shes no different than the the x-kids, hell shes very similar to faiza hussein, except faiza seems to be a more conservative character. shes a titular character

I would say Sam Humphries (Nova) is way more of an "everyman" character in that sense...sort of. But more like "everyboy" I guess.

Wait and see what happens after all this Battleworld stuff. I'm betting it's going to be a reset for Peter Parker and he'll be back with Mary Jane. Before all the Spider-Verse stuff started, it was hinted that Peter was going to be pushed out of his company anyway.

Speaking of which, how was Peter Parker ever looked at as an "everyman" character anyway? The dude is a freaking superhero who displayed a clear way above-average knowledge of science and technology as a high school student and was married to a super model!

Mile Morales is a much better example than Peter is.

I don't see that. I only read the first few issues though. Kamala Khan is one of the new Inhumans who will fade away after her book is inevitably canceled. "Ms. Marvel" and "Captain Marvel," for that matter, are names that should be associated with the number one/two/same/whatever female(s) in the Marvel Universe. Marvel has completely failed to do this with Carol Danvers and the direction they're going in with Kamala obviously isn't that either.

But I like that art Himu posted. I might check out Ms. Marvel again.

This, in a nutshell, is what GamerGate supporters are concerned about when they say social-justice warriors will ruin video games. I've been reading through the Fantagraphics EC Artist series of books. The Joe Orlando, Graham Ingels, Wally Wood, and Jack Kamen stories. I was a long-time EC fan, and I have the old slipcased Tales from the Crypt hardcover set, so I already knew this stuff really shines in black-and-white. Story-wise, though...maybe it's because I'm getting older, but man could that shit get preachy, particularly in the Wood collection

I was questioning if Erik Larson was changing this into a porno mag or something, but at least at the end of the issue, Malcom tells his girlfriend that there's no more kinky sex shit with other girls happening. Oh and there's some super hero stuff too, but this sex stuff is the clear focus of the issue. Again. Can we get back to some real plot?

Silk #1: Take Spider-Man and make him into an Asian female. I mean, literally-- forget how the character was portrayed in ASM; this version is dealing with civilian issues, dealing with JJJ at her job (even getting footage of herself as Silk for him), and making wisecracks while fighting the villain. But it was fun to see this since ASM hasn't been like that in a while.

I picked up the first Hellboy in Hell collection yesterday. Haven't read a Hellboy trade in ages and boy do I miss them. I'm behind like 6 trades on the main series... and I guess this is story takes places after. So now I guess I have to get around to getting all the stuff I've missed.

But anyway, it's pretty great. Art continues to be stunning, writing is sharp, love the atmosphere and setting. It's all so damn good.

Another round of Spider books this week brings Spider-Verse to an end. Sort of.

Amazing Spider-Man is an epilogue issue that gives the story a more satisfying ending. The big points:

Spider-Girl May Parker goes home to her own world, to see her little brother, and finds that Mary Jane and some other guy I don't know have survived, so only that world's Peter Parker bit the dust from the Inheritor attack. The adult "Spider-Ben" also stays on this world to act as her grandfather.

Superior Spider-Man refuses to go back to his time because he now knows that Peter Parker "wins" in the end and gets his body back. Most of the Spiders have gone home already, but the remaining ones kick his ass and shove him back through a portal. When he goes through, he forgets what just happened and is taken back to the events of Super Spider-Man #19. Interesting note here- When in 2099, Superior made a wrist-computer similar to Spider-Man 2099's. He tells it to activate something and then sleep for 100 days before he is shoved through the portal. Hmm...

The last Inheritor, who switched sides to help the Spiders, stays on his world to become the new web-weaver guy. And surprise, surprise- the dead weaver who Superior killed is actually an older version of him.

The UK Captain Britain/Spider-Man no longer has a world to go back to. This is related to the incursions in the Avengers books. He stays on the Inheritors' world along with Anya (Spider-Girl? Arachne?) from 616. Their story will continue in the Secret Wars books later on.

Kaine appears to not be dead-- a human end breaks out of the monstrous (literal) spider-man body that he morphed into.

The former Spider-Woman II, Jessica Carpenter, who became the new Madame Web, hasn't been seen in a long time because she fell into a coma. After Spider-Verse, she wakes up and finds her Madame Web precog powers are gone. Most of the "great web" (I.E. portals to other worlds) was destroyed by Superior before he got his ass kicked and that seems to be the cause of this.

Fallout from this also happens in Spider-Man 2099. He goes back to his world, only to find that:

2099 is seemingly gone. Instead, Miguel finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world and gets his ass kicked by THE MAESTRO (future evil Hulk)!

Spider-Gwen #1 also came out this week. Haven't read that yet. Am guessing it has nothing to do with Spider-Verse much like Silk #1 last week.

I'm halfway through reading the 2002 "reboot" of Captain Marvel (Genis) and I've never seen a series go from "great!" to "total trash" like this before...and it's the same writer! (Peter David).

I really, really enjoyed the 1999-2002 Captain Marvel run. It was pretty damn funny in a Whedon-esque Astonishing X-men way. Genis was a super likeable dude because he was totally OP and cosmically aware but also kind of a military jock moron with no real world experience since he was a test tube baby, which made him hilarious. Rick was an awful character but pairing them together made a fun dynamic and even the supporting cast like Marlo and ghost girl and Moondragon were good stuff.

But then in 2002 they decided to start fresh and basically turn likeable Genis-Vell Captain Marvel into a fucking psychopath super villian by making an entire series based on the idea that a Celestial body makes him go insane and so Genis goes around murdering people and acting psycho and the series is then about Rick as a prisoner trying to stop Genis from destroying the world...and it sucks. I'm basically just quick-reading skimming the issues to get it over with because this is no fun at all. The writing is terrible, it's not funny, it's not likeable and it's just a shame seeing a character you grew to love turn into an EVIL BADGUY. The 1999-2002 Captain Marvel was great! Genis-Vell is a cool bro for the Marvel universe, getting rid of him like they did in this 2002 series is just so stupid. Pretty annoyed about it!

Alright, finished Captain Marvel run 2. Was kind of suck but the final issue #25 was awesome in its 4th wall breaking. Nice way to end a series and character.
Read Black Widow and Black Widow: Breakdown from that early 1999-2002 era. Breakdown had pretty nice art by Scott Hampton and was a fun little spy thriller.

Started on Priest's Black Panther and 3 issues in it's great so far.

I think I'm down to reading anything, but something Cosmic would probably excite me more.

Read the first volume of Elephantmen 2260. Liked it a lot, but the way volume 1 ends makes it seem like it'll be a long series with no satisfying conclusion until the final issue. So I'll check it out when it's finished (if it isn't already; haven't checked).

Marvel Unlimited is awesome, it's a little buggy but I'm getting thousands of dollars worth of content for $60 so I'm super happy. No idea how it runs on android; the iOS app is great; web app sucks.

Can't really recommend anything cosmic so far as I haven't read much cosmic and what I have is not really "convincing quality". For non-cosmic Immortal Iron Fist (around 36 issues); Nextwave (around 10 issues); Uncanny X-Force (around 25 issues) are all awesome, self-contained and not incredibly long.

I haven't read it, but the most recent "big" cosmic Marvel event was Annihilation and its sequel Annihilation Conquest, from some years back. I guess Planet Hulk kind of counts too?

The closest thing right now to a cosmic event storyline is currently going on, kind of quietly, in Guardians Of The Galaxy and All-New X-Men, with some parts taking place in upcoming Cyclops, Captain Marvel, Nova, and Legendary Starlord comics. This event is called "The Black Vortex" and is about a cosmic magical mirror thing that transforms people who stare into it into "superior" beings. Enhanced strength, intellect, feeling at "one with the universe," and all that jazz, but it has also made the good guys who used it act like bad guys, too.

Morrison became seriously ill while writing the book, something he attributes to working on the title and the manner in which its magical influence affected him, and has stated that his work on the comic made him into a different person from the one who started it. He has also said that much of the story was told to him by aliens when he was abducted during a trip to Katmandu.

why is most everything associated with amazing spider man so fucking terrible? his cast, his villains, hell, even him. reading amazing just pisses me off now. meanwhile i can read something like spider man and the x-men, or any other series hes doing a guest spot on, and get a writer who tries not to make reading a spider man comic a terrible experience.

Finally got around to reading Spider-Woman #1, er #5. Wasn't bad, but like I figured, the character's personality was changed and it doesn't seem like the same character Marvel has portrayed for the past decade or so.

For all the talk about Spider-Woman's previous costume being too...ass-tastic (they even make a joke about it in the comic), the character is still depicted as having a skin-tight pair of pants. It's not as detailed, but quite evident with all the drawings depicting her from the side.

I suspect when the character pops up in other comics, the ass detail levels will be back to the other costume's level. In other words, much like what they did to Wonder Woman (pre-New 52), it really doesn't matter and is all about the artist, not the costume.

has to be. i picked up 4 spider books this week, and it was easily the worst. when miles is a more entertaining read(which i shouldnt use against him anymore, as this series closes out its gotten pretty good) you need to take a look at the quality of your shit
