Basically what I'm really saying is every time I've had an injury I just gear my entire work outs around it for months of like...hyper focused rehab until it's stronger than it was before the injury. And as best I can I just tank through a lot of shit if it isn't serious. Like a dropped plate on my foot (happens many times a week), smashed/cut fingers (happens many times a week), and so on.

You can will yourself to feel less pain. Your mental state plays a huge role on how you handle it. People balk at this or think it's macho bullshit, but it's true.

So, it doesn't surprise me that a systemic approach of engaging in it and confronting it has helped you.

Was raised about as “walk it off” as it gets.

Definitely works, until it doesn’t.  Played high level sports year round but never missed a game due to injury.  That included finishing a soccer season with a badly sprained ankle which did major permanent damage.

Kinda still similar with workout stuff and it drives my wife crazy lol

My backpack broke this morning  :picard

One of the buckles used to tighten one of the straps snapped in half as I was tightening it up. It's been quite an ally to me considering it was an $18 random backpack from Walmart that lasted about 5 months despite me having it stuffed full of nearly double the max weight it was rated for most of that time. :salute

Christmas giftcards have a military grade one rated for up to 145 pounds on the way already :rejoice

I'm sure it will be good for my lower back to go a week without the backpack. Starting this week I've upped the weight on my pull ups from 25 to 45 and started doubling my volume anyway, so by the time I get the new one next week I should be physically pretty good to crush it.

Been doing targeted glute work and my Deadlift has been skyrocketing. My grip is much stronger too from doing farmers walks and fat grip work.

I'm still having issues with my squat though. It feels like I've found my position, mechanically, for the deadlift but the squat still illudes me.

Did triple my volume today :lol

I feel like I'm cheating without all the extra weight

FYI if you want your traps and delts do be pumped to the gills, do 300 push ups and 150 pull ups in 2 hours. Never mind the carrying shit for about 6 miles worth distance in between.  :lawd

despite bruising the back of my neck somehow, managed to keep training and progressing on deadlifts and front squats. Got 175 3x3 on FS earlier this week, which is a 3 rep pr and 310 3x3 on deads, which is also a 3 rep PR.

Lost 10 pounds last month.  Still need to do 10 more to lose last years depression gains.  And then 10-20 more after to be in an actual healthy range.

New backpack came 5 days early. Will get to break it on on my birthday  :lawd

It's of a significantly higher quality and durability, fits like a backpack you'd actually be carrying heavy shit in, more straps and buckles than a Kingdom Hearts character. :lawd :rejoice

Gonna be a real treat to use it tomorrow morning.

I had a tweaked back turn into a total back "thrown out" scenario 2 nights ago.  Was lifting and felt a sharp pain and stopped... was pretty bad but not crippling.  Then a few hours later  I was at a store and picked up something off a shelf and my back siezed up, could barely breath, almost had to lie down on the floor.  Had to use the shopping cart as a walker of sorts to get out of there then when I got home had to crawl up my stairs and lay prone for an hour and pop a bunch of pills to be able to move.

Shit is fucking depressing;  I've spent the last 2 days barely moving and I don't really FEEL anything right now but I know if I were to do certain movements or of course lift or something it would fuck up again.

Not sure when I'll be able to lift again;  gonna keep my cardio up but I'll probably drop a few pounds after finally getting up closer to 180.

Yeah been doing ice and heat back and forth.  My wife waits on me hand and foot usually anyways so luckily I barely have to get out of my chair lol

With these issues it's generally all about swelling, which is why it can go from 0-100 real quick.  From "hey I feel something there" to "holy fuck I don't know what to do."

Ice + heat + anti-inflamatory + don't do shit for a while.   I'd go to the doctor but outside of surgey and steroids they aren't going to really help me;  I'd love a pain killer scrip but they are so stingy these days lol.   Plus it would be; go to doc.. go to 3+ PT apointments where all they do is give me a quick rub and stick me on the electrolysis machine... maybe MRI... months pass and I'm probably not in pain by then anyways.

damn, be careful bro.

I tweaked my back deadlifting a few weeks ago and it was really sore for like three weeks, but iced it and took hot baths religiously and started stretching a lot more. Now my back feels great after deadlifting even though I am lifting more than a month ago.

Friday I bumped up the weight in the back pack to 170lbs hoping/thinking I was going to do 185 but fucked up the packing and then counting :lol . Monday I did 180lbs in it and it fucking sucked.

So today I did 200lbs in it  :noah All ten carries were with a 45 plate chest carry. I'm coming in at 135 even with having more frequent what I would classify as binge eating episodes of nothing but garbage. I've had an 16 pound swing from carb bloat/water weight in 2-3 days  :lol but 135 is what I keep snapping back too even still eating extra just not excessively extra. Thankfully people peg me at 150 or higher :aah

I'm coming for that snake in the grass TJ Dillershawn. Tripling my work load seems to be paying off.

I've bumped the backpack up to 210 today. 205 the last two days, although today and yesterday I somewhat cheated by strapping the plate I'd use for a chest carry to my body because my arms are fried and I didn't think I'd be able to complete the full sets otherwise. Two or three weeks ago I fell over with 110 in the the bag :lol

A plate fell on my dip belt and broke one of the buckles tho  :maf

I've been so fucking hungry lately. In the past month I've tripled my amount of sets and in the past week added 55 pounds to my backpack. I'm now starving after any workout, even light ones like I did today, but I'm not sure I can burn off as much as I'm eating on these days. I guess I'll find out, but for now it is fueling the extra work, I just don't want it to end up throwing me out of balance with my eating habits.

Took it easy today and just did a 45 in the backpack on the treadmill, half a mile at the highest elevation (which is 15...I'm not sure exactly what that comes out to though, I assume 15% angle but it seemed pretty steep to me), then the back half at a lower angle but faster pace, then did some rare actual lifting for the first time in a few weeks. Deads are 2x body weight, clean and press 1.2x body weight, benching 1.5x. I wish the number themselves were higher but relatively it's probably good enough, especially considering I only do those actual lifts like once a month at this point.

Self loathing, depression, stress, anxiety, and a kinship to Sisyphus. It definitely doesn't come from a healthy place. I am a selfmedicater, now it's exercise instead of alcohol or sleeping pills but it's the same concept.

Been tweaking my squat and come to find my grip width was too narrow. I widened it by a good amount and it allows my torso to be a bit more upright, stopping my upper body from wanting to dump the weight forward. I'm also able to sit into full depth with way more tension.

It's been a difficult month, but it seems to have balanced out. Started with definitely over working and doing the highest/hardest weights, then got sick for a week and took it easy, took the whole next week easy, and this week I've had 2 days I've cut short either due to being a zombie or feeling an injury and not wanting to risk it. During the weeks I was taking it easy, I was eating like crazy, like feeling gross over eating days on end. Ended up with a 12 pound swing from carb/water weight. My schedule had kind of been eat normally until I have a day or two of being dead tired, then go completely off the rails for a day or two, snap back into focus for a week and a half, and I end up being back at my normal weight no matter how much trash I eat those days.

This time I actually got under it, while taking it easier in the gym, trying not to over train so much. I've added weighted push ups (10x10 with a 45 on my back) but otherwise lowered the weight in the backpack significantly or not even using it at all some days. Seems to be working, though. You'll have to forgive the bad lighting and dirty mirror, that's not the bathroom I generally ever go into.

I'm going to try low carb/keto again for a week or so. When I did it last year, I adapted super quick to it and IF at the same time. Like 2-3 days. Had tons of energy, slept much better, joint pain eased up, so on and so on. I didn't hit the wall until about 2 months in and could no longer maintain not only my workouts but just day to day life I was full blown zombified.

At this point I'm curious how my body will react since I'm already so lean and at a low body weight, and I'm wondering if I'll be able to keep up my workouts better since I'm not doing heavy lifting anymore.

Only 5 days going low carb/keto again (20g net a day, I don't know if I'm actually in ketosis or not) and I've definitely noticed a difference. I'm below my standard weight, more vascular, abs pop more. I have been able to keep up my workouts although they've been a bit tougher and I've been sleeping like trash even more than normal, so I don't know if those are related or not.

Top is from last night, bottom is from this morning. Same weight. Wild how you pose/lighting/angle can change how you look so much.

1 week keto diet results:

Dropped about 3 pounds past my non-water weight weight, which was surprising as it had been impossible for me to get under that weight without sticking to absolute max of 1200 a day calories while keeping up my full work outs. Definitely more definition, particularly in the abs area. Slightly more vascular but I'm already veiny as fuck so that really only applied to my legs.

That's about it. Granted, it was only a week and I don't know if I was actually in ketosis or not, but 20net carbs a day for a week and high fat/protein diet nonetheless. I was hitting a wall the last 2 days with my brain being so foggy and legs feeling like I was walking through water, and then last night I couldn't sleep and my joints were all throbbing so I said fuck it and went to town on the chips and homemade salsa my mom had brought over. It's nice to know I can take a week and get things super strict with ease when I need to.

I think I have a minor LCL tear in my left knee. It doesn't really hurt when I do anything, but it feels tender to the touch on the outside of my quad slightly above the knee. I guess no squats for a while, but I can deadlift just fine and do leg curls/hypers. Feels bad man.
