Came in today and I played and finished the first chapter when I got home. I can safely say this isn't this year's Batman.

More like a poor poor man's Gears. It's strictly average stuff. If I wasn't such a big transformers nerd, I wouldn't even bother with the SP and just skip right into the MP.

I played a bit into the second mission for the deceptions and while it gets slightly better (and some people claim the autobot side of the story is better) its really nothing to get excited about on the sp front.

I'm enjoying the Mp though although the jets seem pretty powerful early on.

From what I played the Autobot's first chapter was significantly better. The first chapter for the Decipticon's had utter garbage level design and when coupled with boring AI it wasn't fun at all. The environment design was complete shit too with every room blending into one another without any creativity.

Honestly I would've stopped playing the game right there since the combat is pretty poor to begin with but I was having fun playing coop with demi.

I use the gears analogy mainly because of the co-op campaign stuff and because you are mainly dealing with a relatively slower moving shooter. Although I agree there are better analogies to be made although none immediately spring to mind. Especially with the ability to transform and fly all around which sort of makes it unlike most other shooters.

I agree about the cybertron setting being a bad idea. It does sort of all blend together and look the same and the graphics aren't amazing in the first place. I can play it and enjoy it for what it is but it certainly isn't on the top level of shooters for the sp part.

Yeah, mechanically its a completely different beast than Gears. Actually a lot more complex on that front. Which sort of destroys a lot of the comparisons.

There are some really interesting mechanics which if given enough time could be formed into a solid sp game. But this one is clearly just sort of by the books. Although like I said it isn't painful or anything. And I do enjoy transformers stuff. Just kind of average.

I find the MP stuff to be far more interesting. It also has its flaws but the core mechanics end up making it a much more unique and enjoyable game on that front imo.

I played the multiplayer for about 2 hours tonight and once you get the hang of it, its pretty freaking awesome. I'm going to go ahead and say the freedom of movement displayed here for the shooter genre is pretty much revolutionary. The closest thing I can compare it to in some ways is descent but its actually more impressive than descent because not only can you fly around but you can drive around and run around.

Critics are always talking about "innovation" but their hypocrisy when they miss out on something is pretty blatant. If this was some other game other than a licensed transformers game, you would be hearing a lot more praise about this element of the game because its pretty much radically different than any other shooter out there. It just happens to be a transformers game. Now I'm not saying the rest of the MP is as revolutionary. The basic game modes are the same old same old. The weapons are nothing new. And the basic online structure is pretty much a COD rip. But god damn, I've never felt so free and able to move and do exactly what I want in a shooter game before when it comes to movement.

More melee combat would have made up for the areas in which this game lacks behind Gears, like the lack of cover and lightweight weapons.

Well not by myself. :-*

Optimus Prime has this cool dash attack that allows you to get in close for a melee kill which is really fun to do. But I'm playing on Hard and I'm not very good so I don't have many opportunities to use it. Plus demi usually just kills them by the time I can reach them, lol.

Why do you put up with that glory hog?  I'd just sabotage him or quit if he tried that Kobe crap with me.

Up to chapter 4 now. I will admit there is a lot of transformers fan service going on here in the SP. Even though I still think its kinda average, I am enjoying myself. Probably has a lot to do with being a huge transformers kid growing up.

They at least get why transformers were cool to my generation growing up and deliver on it in that exact opposite manner where Michael Bay doesn't get it at all and delivers those shit movies. I prefer the story and characters in this about 1000x more than I did in those shitty movies. And no shitty humans to fuck things up.

He's cake bro. I beat him on Hard easily. Here's what I posted on X360A:

Quote
First form: Use the left and right upper covers to shoot the canisters. Hide when missles are coming. Done

Second form: He does a loop. Your favorite spot is the lower left area. Hide here behind the ramp when he breathes fire (Missles Coming on your screen), and initially when he spews rockets. When the first core is blasted, he does a new attack where the room turns purple. Turn into a vehicle and drive forward and use your Ram attack (I used Optimus) and drive up the ramp (grab a heal if you need it). Here, he will cry and spew crystals. Stand up top and shoot away. Make your way while shooting to your corner, where spiders will come. Stomp them or shoot some away if you have some space. The cycle will repeat. Just remember to drive across the room when it turns purple.

Make sure to run in front of him when you blast the third core so he slams his hand on you for the achievement. Just make sure you survive that, of course.

Thx. That help me beat him.

The campaign had some pretty giant boss battles which were neat. Still mostly average. I would still only recommend for die hard transformers fans. But since I fall into that group I enjoyed it despite the flaws.
