Man, I hope Platinum knows what they're talking about. In most games, devs set completion times higher than what is actually true all the damn time. I'm really stoked for this game but four hours for $60? :-\

the piecemeal way i play games, i can usually take the estimated length from reviews and x 1.5 or 2 to get how long it'll take me to finish

Same here. I don't fly through games like most people since I don't have tons of free time.

I still play games quickly because it is natural, I just have less time to play in general..  I have no clue how long Enslaved actually took but it took about a week for me; people said it was 6 hours, which is crazy considering I used to knock those games out in a single lazy day.

Actually, just yesterday I was looking at old PS1/PS2 saves and was amazed to see that it took 10+ hours for me to beat ZoE2 the first time.  When I replayed it last summer it was around half of that.

I'm an old man with a busy schedule and not a lot of time to play games. When people say something's 4-5 hours long, I'm like "ohhh yeahhhh" and slam that bitch into my Gamefly account for great justice

Word. I don't know how long Dead Rising 2 was but it took me two weeks to beat it. 5-7 hours is perfection.

::) where's the rest of my post in those quotes? My opinion was unchanged between those two posts. First I was skeptical about the length. In the next post I'm still skeptical about the length. Maybe I've missed something?

Perfect for a rental, but not if you were planning on buying the game at full price and it has little replay value.

I don't think it counts cutscenes and reloads as part of the game time. IIRC Bayonetta did things the same way, seeing as my completion time for all chapters on Infinite Climax is around four and a half hours.

"replay value" is subjective. If it's an amazing game you want to replay, 6 hours means nothing, because that 6 hours will turn into 12 hours and then 24 hours and eventually 48 hours. Trust your gut, not hype.

It has nothing to do with hype. Mirror's Edge was short, but I still bought it day one because I loved the demo and how it looked. Luckily it also had speedruns and time trials outside of the campaign, so it was actually much longer than it seemed.

With an action game like Vanquish, I'll most likely be done with it for good after beating it on every difficulty if there's nothing else to do in the game. If I had to pay $60 instead of $35 thanks to Kmart, I probably wouldn't bother getting it until the price dropped.

Game is a rental. Theres nothing even visually interesting about the game. Bayo had very nice scenarios and levels. Vanquish is future pew pew.

Yeah as much as I want to support Platinum, there's no way I'm paying $60 for a game this short. I loved the demo, but eh.

The second Vanquish demo is from the challenge mode (don't know if they released that one on the 360).  It's more or less like horde mode where you have waves of enemies you have to fight.

here's some impressions:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/987823-vanquish/56787181

- No Upgrades
- Challenges are just the silly horde mode
- Still same crappy overheating suit
- "Can not beat bosses unless you have the right gun" (quotes cause i dont know context)
- Have to finish to unlock hardest
- Collectables to find that do nothing but achievement
- "Levels not as unique as Bayonetta"
- "Lots of enemies have 1 hit kills"
- "Music not very good"

Sounds like a huge turd. Mikami killing another dev... what was the last one. Clover?

The Vanquish PS3 demo wasn't horde mode at all, if that's the same type of challenges the full game will have. It's just survival against several waves of enemies on an enclosed map.

- "Can not beat bosses unless you have the right gun"
- "Lots of enemies have 1 hit kills"

Sounds like he just sucks.

I'm not trying to white knight the game or anything, the lack of additional content does seem pretty disappointing, but I guess I'll see for myself. Don't care about suit upgrades or whatever. It's better than having to grind halos/souls/essence/etc and buy a bunch of stuff like in other action games.

So it's like horde mode.  :teehee

I'm getting the game for $40 from Amazon, so if it's really that short and lacking in replay value (the latter I doubt), oh well.  I'm sure I'll be able to sell it off for close to what I paid for it if it really does turn out to be that bad.  But I doubt it.  Both demos were a lot of fun.

Saying enemies have one hit attacks, do they mean the ones that fire off huge missiles that can either be dodged easily or shot down? that is the only thing in challenge mode that seemed like a one hit kill, and I don't think they even killed you, just took you down to critical health.

It sounds like the "one hit kill" thing can happen when your suit is overheated, not normally.

Well horde is just fighting the same waves of enemies over and over as they get stronger, kinda like tower defense. If the challenge mode is like the PS3 demo, I figure mission mode in Ninja Gaiden would be a better comparison.

this is why you have to keep your animators on a short leash. animators wanted to put stupid dances in Warhammer 40k, too, and bitched when they weren't allowed. basically, animators see your game's budget as an excuse to copy dances off YouTube.

Quote
Several times, I punched an enemy, failed to kill it thanks to Sam's lack inability aim his punches properly, and was killed because I could neither defend myself or swiftly escape.
Confirmed

edit: Haha like every other paragraph is this guy just complaining about being terrible

Quote
The endless assault of missiles and ambush attacks can be negated by a bullet time effect that kicks in when Sam glides and shoots simultaneously. This would be useful were it not for the fact that Sam's energy levels deplete rapidly, and once they go down, you'll need to wait for them to recharge. Of course, if an enemy throws one of its death missiles at you while you're recharging, you're boned. Sam's dodge maneuver is pathetic and won't get him clear of the giant energy beams and explosions that endlessly come his way.
