I'm ordering it from Amazon because it's steamworks and I might as well save one cent and get a physical copy, plus I have credit and all that.

Those vids were great, so much awesome. The strategic view is a great idea. Soon as I'm done with Reach and have more time on my hands I will be buying this. For some reason I thought it was dropping early next year, then this morning I saw reviews were up.

The good:

UI is very friendly and does a great job of revealing what has typically been convoluted and arcane information in past Civs.
The graphics are GORGEOUS.  I'm playing it at max settings and it blows me away.
Social policies are awesome
STEAM CLOUD SUPPORT :bow Valve :bow2

The bad:

Turns are fairly long, even at the beginning.  I'm scared to see how bad they will be in the modern era.

Sound cards are dirt cheap. You can probably get a used one from a ma & pa computer repair place for $10 if that.

I'm more worried about the impressions on Quarter To Three that are saying they're moving through techs faster than they can make units. Like a Bowman might take 18 turns but it's 5-6 turns to research a new tech.

I defintly ran through that problem especially later in the game where a tank would take 96 turns but nuclear bomb technology only took like 15 moves

The unit promotion that lets you heal all your HP in one turn is waaaay OP.  I can attack a city, get a promotion and be at full health for the next push.

Granted, I am playing on Warlord right now, so that strategy might change for higher difficulties.

I'm dragging ass this morning at work.  :(
Played til 1am.

These game are going to take forever even on a quick pace. '

Does it seem like none of the other civs expand that much?

Warlord is a tough start, but once you get past the initial barb onslaught, it's been very rewarding. It's like the game makes you have a decent army right off the bat.

The wait times in between turns aren't prohibitive on the huge map. On my machine they average only 5-7 seconds.

I seriously don't see why you are spending so much time making a worker.  Use surplus gold to buy settlers and workers while you build improvements.

Also Ramses can lick my balls.  He was jealous of my superior culture and conquered me.  :(

Yeah map trading is gone.

Also I hated religion.  It felt like a race to a certain belief that distracted from my overarching plans.  I'm sure it'll be reinstated in the next expansion pack, though. (hopefully there will be a toggle to turn it off!)

Ironically, I reinstalled Civ4 and I'm gonna give Fall From Heaven 2 (the dark fantasy overhaul mod) a whirl in a few days.

yeah, I'm pretty much going to fail all my classes

I had to quit right now and shit was just getting tense.  I had my entire landmass conquered except for a citystate that I was bros with, so I had to move on to the larger mass that had three city state and an native american-ish leader.  I'm building my three cities over there and fucking Cape Town was angry with EVERYONE.  They teamed up the native american guy and took out one city state; then I watch as they pile up around the borders of my new cities.  Just before I quite that stupid bitch Cape Town wants my citystate friend gone--the one I swore to protect.  I wanted to be peaceful, but Cape Town is going to get fucked.  Then it is all out war between me and the other major power, who swore to protect cape town.  Fucking Cape Town.  At least the last citystate is on my side because I've been killing barbarians for them.
