Think about how much this guy gets paid per hour. Think about how many hours he's spent writing up posts defending the use of a single word.

Yeah.

At least I think he gets paid, he might be doing all this for free.

Man I never knew that Ace Combat 3 was this amazing story heavy game.

I started playing Ace Combat 5 again for what seems like the thousandth  time. I've actually only played the PS2 and up games. So I just thought I'd google about the other ones and then I read about how amazing AC3 is with this story that sounds like Ghost in the Shell meets Macross Plus complete with branching story lines and anime cutscenes. Only to find out Namco took that all out for western release. Like what the fuck? AC3 sounded like the most interesting one. Makes me want to import the Japanese version. Guess it's another thing to add to my list.

It just looks cool. Something right up my alley.

Probably didn't want to bother translating all them words.

AC3 isn't even the first example of namco botching a translation, tales of game pre-vesperia have tons of voice work cut out which is especialy hilarious in the case of gamecube symphonia where you have to watch the character flap their mouth like they are a bunch of fishes gasping for air

wow, someone on neogaf compiled a full list of namco translation fuckups! :lol

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2772926

my favourite is nightmare of druaga, it's a roguelike based on tower of druaga so like tower of druaga there is a lot of stuff hidden that you can find by using vague hints... well guess what? namco removed all of the hints! so you have absolutely no idea what the fuck you are supposed to do

good jon namco

Also, I hope you're happy that Medabots has turned to the uguu school of character designs:

I was just gonna post that in here.

I dunno if I'm gonna buy their stuff as long as he's employed there anymore. Or until they tell him to stop doing PR.  Or until they put a leash on him. Whatever works.

Damn fool. :snoop

Outside of Falcom's stuff (of which XSEED will have little new to publish in the future, given Falcom's Trails focus) and maybe Corpse Party, it's not like you'd be missing much. Their parent company has become a Harvest Moon and boob game factory.

Why in the world did namco do that when the game was released during the apex of the anime boom?
Apparently from what I gathered from a fan translation website was that actually work had started on the localization. The game was even advertised here as having all this stuff. The game was even programmed in a way to allow for an easier English localization. They had even hired the lady who did MGS2's translation to I guess do a test run.

It's just that Namco for whatever reason decided to cut the localization budget.  The website offers ideas that maybe it was because it was such a late release PS1 game and the PS2 was on it's way out. Also that despite being such a big game it did'nt sell that much better then 2 in Japan and there was no big clamor for a story heavy game.

I still like Namco and even with all the shitty changes to thier games I never felt like they were un-cared for. The Tales(some anyway) and Xenosaga games still had quality translations and voice acting. Which is more then I can say for some other efforts.

Namco still has some of the best artists and musicians till this day. A lot of thier games had and still have really nice production values.

Yeah, I have the Japanese version.  It has so much story that it shipped on two discs.  Back in my game store days, everyone was impressed with the GITS/Macross style presentation.  Then the American version came out and we knew something was wrong when it was only a single disc.   :lol ::)

It was the localization costs, IIRC. It may have also been some SCEA hijinks over shipping a two-disc set -- Namco may have been cut a break by SCEI, but SCEA were on the throne and wielded their judgmental powers with fierceness by that point. The marketing department at the time was not buying into the advance wave of anime popularity, and was always lowballing estimates on sales. This is the same marketing responsible for Klonoa having something like a 30K initial print run, which sold out despite a total lack of marketing/sales support.

There are days I wish I could forget that I live here.

Yesterday I found out the small shop which sells exotic foreign foods, such as tortillas, cheddar cheese, and beer with flavor, as well as some really good whole bean coffee, will be shuttering its local storefront in a week.

I can only imagine. I don't think I could live out of the states. When I was away from home in WI, I missed chains such as Popeyes and White Castle. I'm not sure how I could deal with being even further away from the foods I like and have to settle for what I may see as off beat versions. I mean I love Chinese and Thai food as that's all my Grandmother cooks, but even then I love a hamburger or some fried chicken. I'm really less versed in Japanese food beyond the obvious.

I also don't know if I could deal with living in a country like Japan, surrounded by well lots of Japanese people. Part of the reason I want to kind of get out of Chicago is that I dislike the segregation of the city. I don't like just being around just one kind of people. I want a mixture of people, maybe because I'm mixed. I feel uncomfortable around just African Americans as I do just Caucasians. So needless to say I'm not sure how I would fair in Japan. Even visiting the place is kind of uneasy. Not because, I'm some weeboo who thinks it's this nerd mecca, no that phase of fetishsising the place ended around high school. It's just I don't I'm kind of scared of visiting a foreign place.

I don'y know. This probably should have gone in the Japan Thread.

What characters were you wanting that aren't in it?

well the nintendo essential are all there so honestly at this point everything is extra, but i still can think some things they could have done instead

- make the clone their own character instead of having more of them (i still can't believe that a character as important as ganondorf is still a clone for the third time!)
- how about promoting some character from assist trophy to actual character like samurai goroh and jeff? f-zero rooster is HUGE and full of cool design and i'm pretty sure we can pick more stuff from earthbound, how come captain falcon is still the only f-zero character?
- how about putting andross and have a star fox character that plays differently from BLASTER/DASH/CHARGE/SHIELD guy?
- how about some of the more lesser know kirby character like the nightmare wizard from the original kirby game? (EDIT: he's one of the new assist trophy... goddammit nintendo :beli)
- ridley from metroid has been suggested a lot of times and often cited as "not possible because he's too big" we all know that's not a problem so....
- how about letting me play as professor oak? he's truly the most iconic pokemon character after pikachu and you could make him use pokemon for his special moves like he could pull flying pokemon for his recovery move and such
- how about asking capcom and namco for more characters? i don't know how flexible such a thing would be but their history is HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE and certainly more interessing than most of the new character introduced... i know several arcade item from namco game appears, that's good at least

spoiler (click to show/hide)
- how about letting me play as kamek? he's been there forever and always play a role in all of the mario rpg! he's more important than fucking bowser jr!
[close]

tl;dr i wanted to play as the old codger and nintendo just want to remind you there is a new fire emblem game on the 3DS! :stahp

spoiler (click to show/hide)
that's why i love the idea of the duck hunt dog possibly being there, he's a shining beacon in a possible list of character that feature DARK something

Metro Redux arrives from Gamefly today. Gonna be good. It's two weeks until Destiny tho, and then two weeks after that for Shadow Warrior. After that it's flavor country, with a new release pretty much every week.

You know, Nintendo's whole ideal of "It's a losing game, so why compete at all? We'll play this our own way." Is goddamned brilliant and is exactly what I'd suggest they do if they engaged me as a consultant. So how is it possible that they can get it right there, but then screw up nearly everything else just so badly. There's no excuse for the virtual console being as bad as it is. The Wii U was a series of missteps (even if you like it, you gotta admit that). Marketing? That's a mess too. They have moments of brilliance followed by months of stupidity. It's such a mixed bag.

I think the excuse for the Virtual Console is that most games don't pull in much money at all on it, probably less than the cost of ESRB rating them.  The rest is just hubris and conservatism, both things Nintendo has in spades.

Do publishers still have to pay for ESRB ratings on those? I know they stopped charging certain digital games. Unaltered ROM/ISO dumps shouldn't need to be re-rated.*

There's an English version of the game included in the zip file, too.  It's all right so far.  It's basically playing like a regular jump/run n gun with text.  The English text, um... well, they tried.  It's good enough, I think!

It's also controller-compatible.  I looked at the default keyboard controls and decided to go with the controller instead.  You can also double-tap to dash if you'd like instead of using the dedicated button.

Rockman 4: Minus Infinity is still my fave Mega Man hack/fangame, though.

it looks really nice for a fan production, but it's kind of missing the point of mega man legends by making it a 2D sidescroller

The underlying expectation here—that without Western civilization humans would become monsters—is a psychic tic of game designers, who tend to be overeducated upper-middle-class men whose primary lens for understanding the world comes from commercial entertainment. If your worldview is built around a series of compromises you’ve made to secure a comfortable salary building eidolons of human narcissism into restricted-admission dream-states, paranoia and projected self-loathing are in order. And when these labors make you servant to an economy of Moore’s Law and inescapable obsolescence, the competition for scarce resources (conveniently abstracted in the game with overlaid icons, as if Google Glass were the only thing to survive the collapse of human civilization) must seem like an especially poetic prism.

Wow. I'd call that pretentious but even that doesn't do it justice.

And Dead or Alive 5 gets another version. This time joining the pS4/xone up-port trend.
