Let me see you play JSR to be the judge of that. No shade, but most people who say JSR is a bad game are dog shit fucking terrible at JSR. It's like watching a cat play Scrabble.

I haven't played JSR in years because playing it on a dual shock 3 is impossible because the sticks don't have grip to allow you to spray motion tags fast. When I got a PS4, I tried out JSR with the DS4, and it's a slight improvement still not ideal. Sony sticks and their stick placement are dog shit. Your controller sucks if I cannot play JSR on it.

I'm buying this Hori some time to replace the DS4 so I can play JSR again. I usually play it once a year, but I haven't since I sold my 360.

See? ACTUAL CONCAVE STICKS WITH GRIP. See? ACTUAL STICKS WHERE STICKS SHOULD BE PLACED.

I played JSRF first.

I have played JSRF mmmehhhhhhhh...once. One 40-50 hour playthrough.

I've replayed JSR, without hyperberole, about 30 times. It isn't even close. I've tried replaying JSRF and it's...just not the same. JSR is a game of skill; JSRF is looking at a map and finding where to find tags. It's a great game, but it's not better than JSR.

I love JSR but it is janky as hell in controls even if it has a certain arcadey quality to it. Good point on the PS sticks being a bit too soft (That DC stick was hard, to the point of being painful in long sessions) but I found the tagging mechanics to be pretty meh upon replaying it anyway. Never played JSRF sadly, but I can see why they did away for that even though it might not be too great.

I don't remember there ever being a twitch app on the PS3

The PS4 / supposedly PS3-Vita app is pretty recent, the PS4 app was launched last fall. In typical Sony fashion, it's only available in the US and despite a PS3 being displayed on the Twitch page, no one can apparently be arsed to finish or upload that.

Honestly as the years goes on, the PS3 went from passable to dogshit in those areas. Pretty laughable they pushed it as a media center.

Hori makes so many great controllers. They're the best third party controller manufacturer. I was gifted an awesome 360 hori controller a few years ago and I still use it.

It's really comfortable and the D-Pad is implemented almost really nicely. I say "almost" because the downside is that the down button on the D-Pad doesn't respond for mine sometimes, which is a big problem. But I heard that can be fixed.

Vom: i like motion tags. Doing a motion tag while dudes are chasing you and finishing it up before they ruin your combo is soooo good, tense, and extremely satisfying. Either way, whether I like them or not doesn't matter. I spray tags extremely fast. Convex sticks do not have the grip that allow me to spray fast. DC stick hurts after a while, it's true, but it does have grip. When I play JSR, I always get motion tags in my head and spray them like a beast, and when I play it on PS3 I fail my tags ALL THE TIME.

JSR does have wonky controls. But it has a learning curve as well. I don't see it as any different than a game like Dark Souls or Resident Evil. It's Japanese through and through. Playing more JSR gets you used to the controls. What people forget is that JSR you are on roller blades and that is a huge part of it. It is also a momentum based platformer.

A new Jet Set would never happen as Smilebit is dead. Whatever remnants of Smilebit are now at Nagoshi's RGG team.

I'd like to replay JSRF sometime but its replay value is pretty nill.  I'd like an HD port more than anything. Jet Set is dead. No one bought HD and both games had historically low sales. RIP IN PEACE.

The tagging didn't bother me back then, but upon replaying the remake I found it pretty repetitive and it broke the flow of the action (esp. the large ones). Maybe they could have done something to diversify it with deeper mechanics but it's a bit pointless to harp on that now. Game was still pretty fine to me, "navigation" or "traversing" is still the gameplay peak for me (aside from the stellar art direction).

Do you think it breaks the flow of the action because in the larger states there's too much going on to spray larger tags?

I like them because they make the game more of a puzzle: where are the big tags, in what order should I spray, and in what section? Playing something like Flight or Flight wouldn't work without big tags. Route planning is one of the best parts! JSRF is pretty boring because every tag is small and there's no time limit. Without motion tags, the time limit is meaningless.

That and because the commands are pretty repetitive (they don't change, they're assigned by tag IIRC). Execution is somewhat flabby as well (the time limit on inputs is pretty lenient). I'd say it's too middle of the road and lacks progression. Maybe I'd prefer it better if the game mixed it up and / or had more fighting came commands for tag...

I'm no master or anything at the game, but to me there's only one stage where spraying big tags uninterrupted is really hard, the riot gas one.

Not reading those spoilers.  Just got SMTIV Final in the mail today and don't know ANYTHING about it.  Read the SMTIV wiki to refresh on the plot since honestly the plot in SMTIV was pretty weak as shit for a mainline SMT tale.  Played through the intro of Final so far and it's interesting.  Looking forward to really getting into it.

So apparently some translators for Valve are on strike and / or have been dismissed. Turns out Valve relies mostly on a program set up to organise free volunteers for its translation needs, with some people at it for 10 years. While there's no explicit sign of Valve calling for concealed work, some of those translators did receive holiday packages and the like and a multimillion business fostering volunteer program to serve its primary needs is a dubious proposition no matter the intent.

As you would expect, some people are shockingly OK with this. Not on the GAF thread though, but here for instance.

Yes, I agree, but they have a dedicated fan-base and their precious flat structure where everyone picks their projects. Translating a website or the client is not a sexy task for a bunch of game devs, neither to do or even manage, so they leverage their loyal fans. That leads to crap like this, but at the end of the day, these people donated their time voluntarily, some for years. I'd be surprised if most of them eventually expected to be compensated.

That said, I looked this up further, and it seems this is all about one Valve employee (seemingly the only one managing these translations) making promises of paid jobs to people and doing a really shit job dealing with the mess he made:

Yeah it seems it's another one of those cases where the flat structure can't handle properly menial, boring office desk tasks. Translations being managed by pretty much that one guy is already pretty insane.

I noticed Hitman on the top sellers page on Steam with the price listed as 15$. That struck me as curious so I clicked through to find that they're selling an "intro pack." As far as I can tell it grants you access to the same content that the 'full' version has when it's out, which will be an unfinished game. So I guess SE is essentially selling season passes for base titles now

Yeah, it's a fanservice game :P

I mean if the game wasn't so repetitive (like a way to auto-battle, and half the stages) it'd be great.  The animation, the humor, even the battle system is fun.  It's just that these games drag out and get boring.  Same as the predecessors with the SRW OG ones and Namco x Capcom.

The folks holding the Coleco name obviously have heard of the latest developments about the ex-Retro VGS/Coleco Chameleon and posted the following on Facebook.

Quote
Chameleon Product: We are thankful to have a large group of passionate engineers and retro game enthusiasts who follow Coleco and other product lines. It has come to our attention that the community has certain concerns over the prototypes involving the Retro VGS model. The team at Retro remains confident that their product is developed to the extent as describe; HOWEVER, in order to confirm or debase these concerns, Coleco has demanded to inspect the prototype units within a seven day time frame. At which time, independent engineers will review their findings and determine if those units are up to our standards. We will report some or all of those findings to the community so as long as they do not interfere with proprietary information. We remain hopeful that the community's concerns are merely speculations, but if there is merit to the concerns, then we have no choice but to abandon the project rather than release a sub-par product. During this time, we ask that the community allow us time to complete these inspections. Time extensions will only be granted if requested by the independent engineer. Time extensions and results will be posted here.

It's pretty much guaranteed to crash and burn now.
Reading the atariage forum, it seems Pinball is an even worse snakepit of aborted projects, like This Predator pinball project who cashed in thousands of dollars without even having the licence to begin with.

Or this guy :
