I spent the better part of this morning trying to get a soundfile of Alucard saying "I'm interested in this" from Castlevania SotN.

Ended up having to record the clip off one of those "soundboards". Was it worth it? Well whenever my phone receives an SMS or email it says "I'm interested in this", so yeah it was worth it

I remember I wanted to record samples from a few games for a game of my own, when I was younger... including voices from Star Ocean 1 and SOTN (specifically the "May I Help You" and "I'm interested in this"), what I did was take one of those old PC microphones, lay it out on the ground and blast my TV and try to record... as you can imagine it sounded horrible!

Got a real strong urge to replay GTA5 on PS4 but I refuse to buy until it's $30 or less.

Thought about buying it used, but isnt this the one game that actually comes with something other than the disc in the box these days?

Sadly, no. BD is squandered potential and with all the drama surrounding the second, I might just pass on that one too.  :-\

as far as I'm aware people loved Bravely Default until the last part of the game where it asks you to repeat a bunch of stuff you've already done. So if you like what you see it's probably worth checking out at whatever it costs these days imo. Don't need to finish a game to get something out of it u know. Also, seen people on twitter talking about how Bravely Second tanked in japan so maybe it's different/less good, but I suspect there won't be a Bravely Third.

Bravely Second is a direct sequel reusing the same world and characters. You are better off playing the games in the right order.

Nah, this time they're apparently cutting parts of side content where characters can "die" or something and its kind of an actual big deal for these quests.

Yep, it was close to half if my memory serves me right. I'm playing Bravely Second now and it's great. One of the most polished RPGs I've played. It would have been even better with a new cast of characters, new environments and a new story.

Yes you should play BD. It's a really great Turn Based Jrpg. With what I believe is a pretty charming cast of characters, presentation, and art style. I got over 80hrs of enjoyment and I never finished it, but I don't at all regret playing it.

Wasn't a fan of 4 Heroes of Light, didn't like the lack of control over my party, the limited moveset, or the disappearance of the story in the second half of the game. Some of the battles were extremely challenging, though. BD was much better even with the shitty final chapters...

I've seen digital download version on sale; when I double-dipped, my timing was bad and I paid full price on the heels of a sale.

IIRC there is a map of San Andreas in the package of my 360 version, but I haven't ever even unfolded it.

Microsoft just closed Lionhead. I'm amazed they let Fable Legends go on for so long even though it wasn't catching with people at conferences. Like, what the fuck were they thinking levels of long. Abandon all hope for Black And White 3

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I suppose the NDA is up, so it looked gorgeous, but holy shit the game was a limited button masher. It got a little better over time but it was going to die instantly once it was put into open beta because it was so repetitive and boring even when they tried to add more strategy to it.

I'm surprised they moved away from the main series of Fable. I mean I always thought it was over-rated but it was really popular. As far as Fable Legends, I thought there was a good core idea there but they never were able to deliver a level of polish in the beta that made you feel confident it was ever coming out.

4 Heroes of Light was fantastic. Light on story, much bigger focus on tactics / jobs / equipment to the point where that fire resistant shield you got at the beginning of the game will be useful all the way to the end. Just about the only thing that could have been better was getting Gems for upgrading the different crowns.

I couldn't stand BD's second half, and I was already getting tired of the battle system by that point. Having a party composed of some of the densest characters in RPG history certainly didn't help.

I know a number of people who really liked fable even though I wasn't part of that group and I think these people were rpg lite fans. Like Oblivion and Skyrim were too daunting for some people so Fable filled this story based Oblivion lite niche that exists.

I just always thought it was too simplistic and too black and white to be really good.

Yeah I've seen some of the popular twitch streamers playing it. I like that it seems more gamey than all the Day Z clone style survival games. Like American Gladiators game show rather than gritty zombie survival wasteland like all the other.

Fable II was alright but kind of obviously had a few things missing if memory serves, III very blatantly had even more content cut out of it and at that point I declared the hell with this series and its creator.

I never played the first, but I enjoyed the second one. Reasonable graphics (well, /good/ but an atrociously inconsistent framerate), a few interesting gameplay ideas, fun voice acting, and no shortage of charm. I don't know WHAT went wrong with the third; it was a little like the System Shock/Bioshock path: simplifying and streamlining until there just isn't much strategizing. I think I finished 3, but it was a damned slog that felt like busywork.

Anyway, I feel bad for the studio.

I think the first one on the original Xbox was magical since it did a lot of what we take for granted now like emergent open worlds and The Lost Chapters was really, really nice addition. The Witcher 3 is really what Fable 3 should have been (Without the crushing reality that existence is futile. Still committed to the farts though) and what a potential Fable IV would strive to be.

I think a lot of what MS did wrong was have them stay making Fable when Moleneux left. Should have taken the chance to give the studio a new IP using the 4 on 1 concept and then say "We'll return to Fable eventually once we remind people Peter Moleneux doesn't work here no more". But Legends is going nowhere (Evolve barely scraping by should have been a sign from the start), studio is massive, franchise never did huge numbers and multinationals are having a hard time justifying shaky investments in Britain for the next few months to a year due to EU Exit fears (Rare is fine because the studio has been profitable and also "Multiplayer Black Flag without the Assassin's Creed Bits that people hated" is a money idea, potentially). Lionhead got the wrong end of the stick at the wrong time, unfortunately. I'd be hopefully and say if Britain wasn't jostling with the brexit. They probably would have been downsized rather than being shut but the market is being an asshole at the minute.

Sucks because they were a talented bunch and it's never good to watch people lose their jobs.

I only played Fable I and II, while I thought the first was a really shallow and disappointing game, I got quite a bit of enjoyment out of the second one. Seems that the second game is really what the first game should be... longer, more fleshed out, with deeper sim elements. Being a slumlord and owning property was pretty cool (by the end of the game I owned all of Albion) and I dug the part where you were trapped in prison

spoiler (click to show/hide)
and had to decide between torturing other prisoners or getting your EXP drained
[close]
.

Really shitty endgame though and combat was horrible.. no strategy apart from button-mashing.

From what I hear, while the second game had a lot of promise, the third game takes a giant dump on the series. Still, a shame that the series is over instead of re-inventing itself, and that Lionhead is no more.

To be fair, the series is trying to reinvent itself, but failing badly. Something like Fable 2 but fleshed out with new technology to open it up more would be aces. Never happening, though

Actually I think it would be pretty easy. I'm not sure why they actually aren't doing it. Fable always sold pretty well. I think re-inventing it for a modern audience would go down pretty well. I'm certain its something that will in fact be announced in an e3 a couple of years in the future as the nostalgia factor for it will increase.

They were having open playtests of Legends in the hallways at one point while I was at MGS, like two years ago. Seemed pretty fun, not sure what happened.

Among the issues it had, I think the concept of it was too far from the base concept of what the fable games were. Putting Fable on this title really added nothing to it and only served to alienate fans who wanted a regular Fable game. It would be like putting out a Halo Wars game but not doing mainline Halo fps games.

-Wolfenstein The New Order
-Ryse

Congrats on the new build!  Always exciting getting a modern gaming pc :)

Morder - Seemed really empty and bland environment + repetitive.  Otoh runs friggen well so you can run it at like 40k 90fps and it moves like silk with gorgeous animation.  Maybe worth it for that.
Dying Light - I heard it's great
Far Cry 4 - Did you play FC3?  If no, then yeah, Far Cry 4 is a beautiful environment to explore and a very fun game.  Even the story/characters were solid.  I loved it and it was my GoTY for 2014.  But then I didn't play FC3.  Everyone who played FC3 didn't like it because it was a reskinned FC3 more of the same.
Unity - Nope.  Gorgeous game, but sucks.
Wolfenstein - Fun B-shooter game, not really a looker.  Worth a play.  Doesn't support SLI in case you got SLI.
Ryse - Dunno, got it for $6 and still in my backlog.  Screenshots look pretty.
Arkham Knight - Very nice looking game that needs a beast of a system (do not play at above 1080p) because the port is broken.  Even at 1080p you're gonna see drops from 60fps.  But it still looks great and I loved the game and thought it was the best in the series but a lot of people hate it so dunno.
Mad Max - Noooooooo; pretty and runs great, but man I wish I hadn't just spent 30 hours on this.
DQI - Dunno, haven't played the series yet.  Saw my ex play it at 60fps though and it looked fairly pretty.

GTAV and Witcher 3 are probably better than all of those both visually and gameplay-wise.

Yeah, the Nemesis system is sweet, the combat feels like an evolution of Batman/Arkham instead of a straight me-too swipe, the mix of story- and optional-missions is well handled, presentation is top-notch. "Lame" is a pretty harsh judgment for all it gets right.

Yeah, I'll give you most of those, but I thought most of the story and side missions were pretty dull to be honest.I had to force myself to sleep walk through the core missions just so I could get the new map and fuck shit up with a new Nemesis map, and I don't think I ever found any of the side challenges to be particularly interesting. That's just me though.
